So is every Rom for the X based on Moto's version of the OS because of the locked bootloader then?
I was in the same boat about 2 months ago. Was upgrading from a d1. But my scenario was a little bit different. My upgrade was before the 16th when they did away with annual upgrades. So the problem was, do I go ahead and get a DX before the 16th so I will be able to use my annual upgrade one more time...or just say heck with it and wait for a new phone to come out. I ultimately....after talking to verizon...used my upgrade. I have the DX and love it. After rooting, tweaking, and messing it flies. I love it. I figure by January of next year there will be a ton of amazing phones out.
While my earlier statement stays the same if I had to get a new phone "today" I found out my situation is slightly different as of a few hours ago. I'm eligible for my upgrade now. :icon_ banana: I thought I wasn't due until July. :icon_eek:
My beloved D1 is definitely showing its age especially the more I play with the wife's Droid Incredible (i loaded MIUI for her over the weekend and she loves it). Hard to say no to the Thunderbolt and LTE. The future Droid Bionic is of course LTE and Tegra 2 but the 512MB RAM I really think will hurt performance versus something like Thunderbolt with 768MB. Not to mention Thunderbolt is most likely going to be easily fitted for custom ROMs whereas Bionic will most likely be locked down as per normal Motorola BS.
Decisions, decisions, decisions. Wait for an HTC Tegra 2 device or just get the TB and roll with it... ARGH! :icon_evil:
I'd get a used Droid Incredible until I found a dual-core phone I really wanted.... I'd then use my upgrade on that dual-core phone.
DX is tempting but the bootloader is a killer for me....
