What are you getting after the Droid if you were getting a phone today?

The DX and DInc aren't really any more appealing marginal upgrades over the D1 than they were 6 months ago. If I had to choose another phone TODAY, I might have to check out the EVO and Sprint's WiMax. Otherwise the Atrix if Sprint doesn't work for me.

I'd love to get the EVO, but Sprint doesn't have 1 year contract agreements right? Also my contract isn't up for another year...they are just offering me a phone upgrade because i am on a $69 voice plan and have had my phone for a year.

Also I am discouraged to buy Moto products as I have said in the past based on what I have read here What Is Bootloader And How To Unlock Bootloader On Android Phones [Complete Guide]

So it looks to be an Inc or fascinate from ebay until something better comes out.

Anyone own a fascinate? Pros, Cons?

So is every Rom for the X based on Moto's version of the OS because of the locked bootloader then?

That's my understanding. Personally I don't see all the fuss. So long as you can root you can remove bloatware and overclock, and use wireless tether. That to me is easily 90% of the reason for rooting.

I guess if you don't like Blur or Sense I can see not buying a phone you can't remove it from (although much less of an issue with more powerful phones that should eliminate or at least significantly reduce the issue with installing a replacement launcher over top).

And, yeah, the updates have been a big deal. But Gingerbread is pretty darn good and once we get Ice Cream I think Android is pretty much a finished product.

I was in the same boat about 2 months ago. Was upgrading from a d1. But my scenario was a little bit different. My upgrade was before the 16th when they did away with annual upgrades. So the problem was, do I go ahead and get a DX before the 16th so I will be able to use my annual upgrade one more time...or just say heck with it and wait for a new phone to come out. I ultimately....after talking to verizon...used my upgrade. I have the DX and love it. After rooting, tweaking, and messing it flies. I love it. I figure by January of next year there will be a ton of amazing phones out.

Nice! I was watching detailed vids on the Atrix this weekend. The guy was doing everything on the phone just to show speed (opened the camera, settings menu etc). My OC'd X is right there. I mean it's pretty close!

While my earlier statement stays the same if I had to get a new phone "today" I found out my situation is slightly different as of a few hours ago. I'm eligible for my upgrade now. :icon_ banana: I thought I wasn't due until July. :icon_eek:

My beloved D1 is definitely showing its age especially the more I play with the wife's Droid Incredible (i loaded MIUI for her over the weekend and she loves it). Hard to say no to the Thunderbolt and LTE. The future Droid Bionic is of course LTE and Tegra 2 but the 512MB RAM I really think will hurt performance versus something like Thunderbolt with 768MB. Not to mention Thunderbolt is most likely going to be easily fitted for custom ROMs whereas Bionic will most likely be locked down as per normal Motorola BS.

Decisions, decisions, decisions. Wait for an HTC Tegra 2 device or just get the TB and roll with it... ARGH! :icon_evil:

Yea I can ill with one of these phones for a year. I figure that it will take that long anyways for price to drop on newer ones anyways.I am just concerned about the "Boobie Trapped" bootloader on the X. Is that hard to get around when rooting, is it easy to brick the X? or do I only have to worry about bricking when loading Roms? All I really would need to do is root to remove bloat and OC.

The TB is appealing but I do not like the looks of it. Looks bulky and I am not paying $379 for it on a one year contract. That's why I though X and Fasc were good alternatives, even though the ram is lower. I heard the TB is superfast though, according to the theworldofjohnboy thread that has been floating around the past couple days.

Tegra 2 all the way!!

Well for me it would be the Droid X2. I live in an area where 4G will not be available for between 18-24 months. At that rate I may as well get the fastest 3G phone available to last me until 4G is available. Maybe by then Verizon will come to their senses and have a reasonable 4G data plan in place.

I'd get another D1 as well, hands down best phone I've ever owned. Waiting on a phone to blow the D1 off it's hinges but might be waiting a while.

Sent from my Droid using DroidForums App

I'd get a used Droid Incredible until I found a dual-core phone I really wanted.... I'd then use my upgrade on that dual-core phone.

DX is tempting but the bootloader is a killer for me....

+1 Dinc's are about to get dirt cheap too

Used Dinc (Evo junior)

Yea maybe dinc. Sense is def the best. I am just getting hung up on these phones with big screens.
