What have YOU done with Tasker?

How do I actually set up a task to run on startup? Or does it automatically execute? Since i believe all profiles are in a waiting state, yes?I have the map being sent to my Google voice number via SMS and although it works when I test it, it doesn't when I start the phone. I'm not seeing the option anywhere.

Thanks.

Also, Anyone now of a way that I can kill all apps if the CPU load is near 100% load for x amount of time?

I had an app get stuck last night and my phone ran at 100% for about 5 hours and it killed the battery. Probably got pretty warm too.

I suppose I could use the battery temp variable. I know I could set it to turn things off at night but I would like to know if tasker is capable of adjust anything based on the CPU load

Well, when you set up the context for the tasks to run, select:

event > system > device boot

then every task you place in that context will run on startup.

To my knowledge, cpu isn't something that's in the current capabilities, but may be implemented at a later time. I do know that the OS ought to be shutting down programs when there's too much load, but i'm not sure if that's based on RAM alone or if that includes cpu too. You can set up tasks based on battery power and battery temp, though, so that may be your best bet if you're having problems like you described.

I bought the tasker just for the fun of it... been playing with it, but I think I have not even scratch the surface yet...

25cents... I am thinking of making a task that run the "Barnacle App" then it would hit the "Start" button then the "Associate" button?

Thanks!

I really don't know what you're asking, but if I had to guess, I'd say you're asking if Tasker can interact with programs beyond opening them. I'm pretty sure that it cannot do that - and if it can, I'd be completey amazed. To my knowledge, tasker can only open and close apps.

Thanks, I see it now. Unfortunately it doesn't appear that I can edit it in. When I choose add context from the edit menu, every option is available except Event

I have to get my mind wrapped around the difference between profiles and tasks too.

I use profile and context interchangeably even though they're slightly different, and tasks are dependent on contexts.

Are you using the trial version or something? I can't fathom why event would be unavailable to you.

It's available normally, as in when I first create a profile but when I edit one, it does not appear. I'm using 1.06 beta, I'm sure it expires afterv14 days

Oh, are you trying to make tasks dependent on more than one context? You'll have to use variables to accomplish that.

Okay I want to setup tasker to Turn on Wifi when I am at my hosue which I setup jsut fine but how do I tell it to turn it off once I leave that area????

Can someone try to convince me to buy this? I'm really interested in this app, but after reading through a million comments in the Market I've found:

1. Some of the triggers perform erratically. Specifically, the location-based triggers garnered the most complaints; some said they don't work at all.

2. It's a great strain on battery life, more than most apps.

I was excited about Live Wallpapers too, until I realized the battery drain meant I could never use them. I hope Tasker isn't the same.

@MrJester - you can set an exit task from the task menu.

Well, there's an article on the Tasker forums (I believe I linked to it earlier) that explains why location contexts are spotty - basically, if you live in a built up area or are indoors, GPS is crap, and most people rely on that and network data. It's explained that leaving wifi on, or connecting wifi periodically to get a location, will often solve this issue. After reading that article, I have just left wifi on and disabled GPS for the most part. It works better for me, and I get much less battery drain.

Speaking of battery use, it probably has to do with GPS being on constantly. The comments were most likely from people who didn't bother taking the time to learn how to use the application.

For the record, I've had my phone on since 9 am, it's almost 7pm, and I'm at between 50% and 60% battery. I've charged maybe 30 minutes total in this time. I've been on the phone damn near constantly, and when it's not on Pandora is playing. Wifi has been on the entire time. My screen is dim, but easily readable. My experience after adjusting my settings properly is that battery life has improved.

I am basically doing thisLocatephone - Tasker Wiki

But, I want it to do it on start up. I could do it over that way I can get the start up part of it in there first

Yeah, if you want this to happen when the device boots, you have to set that as your context. Otherwise, you're going to get notifications of location whenever the context that you have set up is fulfilled.
