What have YOU done with Tasker?

Yeah I was hoping for wake up and unlock. Its a bummer it can't be done.

What about a script? There is a plugin that will allow one to run a script (even with su) but I've never found any line of code or anything like that that would wake and unlock... Know anything like that?

I don't because I don't write code. I have a very very limited software background.

alright, thanks. maby someone will read this and help me out.

This thread made me register, thank you for all your profiles/tasks for Tasker :) Great job.

I'm really beginner and i'm really having trouble creating my own tasks, maybe someone could help me.

So here's my case:
I go to my work by bus and often i fall asleep and miss my stop which then takes me half an hour to get back where i'm supposed to :(
So i'm trying to make a task that in time window let's say between 7:00 and 8:00 AM to check location cell towers, network, gps every minute and if i'm in range of whatever say 500m radius or near a cell tower to alert me with all possible options like vibrate, alarm, ring, slap, kick...

I would appreciate any help

Thanks :D

Here you go, some of it has to be programmed at the location you want it to work at.

New - Type: Loc Alarm Off - Event - Hardware - Button: Camera - Highest Priority - Stop Event - Done - New Task - Ok
"+" - Media - Media Control - CMD: Stop - Simulate Media Button - Done
"+" - Tasker - Profile Status - Press the Magnifying Glass and then choose Loc Alarm Off - Off - Done - Done

New - Type: Location Alarm - Ok - Location - Choose Radius - Select Net and GPS so they are green - Press Get Fix when you are where you want the alarm to go off - Done - New Task - Ok
"+" - Tasker - Profile Status - Press the Magnifying Glass and then choose Loc Alarm Off - On - Done
"+" - Audio - Media Volume - 15 - Done
"+" - Media - Music Play - Press the Magnifying Glass and then choose the sound or song you want to play - Loop - Done - Done
Press the tool button - Properties - Cooldown Time to 12 hours - Done (This prevents it from running over and over after it has run once..it won't run again for 12 hours.)
Add a context - State - Variable Value - %LOCATIONALARM matches 1 - Done

New - Type: Location Alarm Cell Near - Ok - State - Cell Near - Scan for a few towers near where you want the alarm to go off - Done - New Task - Ok
"+" - Variable Set - LOCATIONALARM to 1 - Done - Done
Add a context - Time - Specify the time window you want this to occur - Done
Add an Exit Task - "+" - Variable Set - %LOCATIONALARM to 0 - Done

Let me know how this works for you, I have not tested it.

I found that page but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Time for me to run to class but I will look into it more tonight.

Hey just bumping something from a long time ago...were you ever able to figure this one out? I wanted to have the camera button wake up my phone when the display is off, but could never accomplish it...

Sorry I left you in the wind. I did test this and then I tried again today. I couldn't get it to work till I had the keyguard off. So for this to work, keyguard will be disabled. That would leave your phone vulnerable if you were to lose it.

Just use the above code, it works, but you have to add keyguard off (under the display menu) to the Display on Event profile.

If you want you can set a timer up so that after a certain amount of time it engages the keyguard.

Thanks it does in fact work with keyguard off. However, of course that leaves the phone vulnerable as you mentioned. You say we can set up a timer to engage the keyguard after a certain amount of time, this will make the profile not work right until we unlock it once again?

You are correct, it won't work right until it is unlocked again.

This just popped in my head!

One thing you could do is set up a google voice number and set up tasker to look for texts from that number and lock the phone up when it receives a text from that number with a certain message.

Very nice...that way I can remote lock it if I ever lose it. Thanks!

Gv help with tasker

I am trying to get one of the "phone finder" programs to work with my google voice texting.

No luck yet on any of the usual apps. I tried to run the tasker phone finder profile but it only triggers the normal text receive message. Is there a way to have tasker recognize that the text is coming through google and not Verizon?

thanks in advance

I've been waiting for a way for tasker to recognize a gvoice text but can't find it. This is closest
Locale Google Voice SMS Plug - Android app on AppBrain

thanks what about this

Is there a way that Tasker can keyword an email? Could this trigger the event that I need?

thanks in advance,

If I have Tasker turn off cellular when the battery is below 20%, and then I manually turn it back on, how can I have Tasker turn it off again after I'm done using the phone?

Or maybe even just have it check every 30 minutes to see if it was turned back on and then turn it back off at that point? Is there a way to have it "check again" like that?

Thanks,

David

Hi all,

I just purchased Tasker and was trying to do a simple task that
automatically turn on/off the wifi when I'm at home. All I do is:
Contexts | Tasks
Cell Near | Turn On Wifi
Wifi Near | Turn Off Wifi (Exit task) (optional?)
I also have another task that simply turn off the wifi when I lock
the screen.
The problem is that whenever I unlock my phone, the wifi is connected
correctly to my home wifi, but after likes 10-30s, the wifi turn
off itself so my phone back to use 3G network, and after 1-2min it
reconnect itself to my home wifi again, this seems to happen again
and again? So what is the problem here? Hope someone experienced with Tasker can help me.

Thanks

You should be able to just set a location/gps context for your house and set it to turn the wifi on. Then, add an exit task to turn the wifi off. I have this setup on mine.

Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using DroidForums App

To turn on WiFi at home or any particular location you need to start with the proper Context then add the Tasks. So starting at the Profiles screen:

  1. New
  2. New Profile Name - WiFi On at Home (your choice)
  3. First Context - Location - A Map comes up with your current location, If that is OK, then set the Radius you want. I use 50 meters for my house just to be safe in case the GPS gets a little off.
  4. Done
  5. Name Context - Home (your choice)
  6. Task Selection
  7. New Task
  8. Net
  9. WiFi - Set to On
  10. Done
  11. Tap on Task Bubble and Select Add Exit Task
  12. New Task - Name Stop WiFi (your choice)
  13. +
  14. WiFi - WiFi Net - Action Disconnect
  15. Done
  16. +
  17. WiFi - WiFi - Set to Off
  18. Done
That should do it.

How to Start, Play, Pause and Kill Pandora with Tasker

I love Pandora and use it frequently and with multiple sound devices. But I want it to start and play it automatically when I connect it to my headphones or car and then I want it to stop automatically when I disconnect it. I love Tasker too and thought it would allow me to do those tasks easily. Well, it can do those things, just not very easily. Here’s how I got it done. Sorry it’s not very elegant, but easy just wasn’t in the cards for this chore. I have a DROID X.

First: the issues. The Media Actions in Tasker don’t work for Pandora. So forget about Media Control (Next, Pause, Previous, Toggle Pause and Stop), Music Play and Music Stop. Also, the Kill App Action in the App Actions group doesn’t work (supposedly some Android OS limitation). Soooo what to do?

What does work? Pandora will start to play automatically when it is started from an Off state (not Paused, but Off, as in after Quitting Pandora). So that means we need to always start from a Pandora Off State. So we will always Quit or Kill Pandora whenever we stop listening to it. The Tasker Load App Action does work for Pandora. So when the Task Load App/Pandora is executed with Pandora in the Off State, the command will Load Pandora and Pandora will start Playing.

OK. So how do we get Tasker to put Pandora in the Off state when we are done listening? This is the tricky part. First we need to get Pandora in the Pause State and then we can kill it. For Wired Audio Connections this is not a problem. When the Audio Wire is pulled from the Headphone Jack, Pandora will automatically go into the Pause State. But when Bluetooth connections are terminated, Pandora will keep playing and turn on the Phone Speaker. So here is how we put it in Pause State. Pandora will Pause if another music App starts playing. I use doubleTwist for my music player on the phone and have it set as the Default Music Player (which must be done for this to work), but this should also work for the default Music player. I have Tasker Load the App doubleTwist and then execute Media Control/Toggle Pause. Next Action is Media Control/Pause. Now both Pandora and doubleTwist are in a Pause State.

Now I need to kill Pandora. For this I use the App Fast Reboot Pro by Great Bytes Software. This App does not require root and does not actually reboot your phone. It closes and restarts all core and user processes. But it will not kill an App like Pandora if it is Playing at the time. So that is why we put Pandora in Pause State. The free version of Fast Reboot closes and restarts everything, but does not allow you to selectively exclude Apps. I didn’t like that limitation and also think it adversely affected Tasker’s performance so I ponied up for the Pro version for about $1.40 (€0.99). Fast Reboot Pro is an App and a Widget. Tasker can Load an App, but can’t Load a Widget. So you need to set up the App first and then you can Load it with Tasker. To set it up, you first open the App and select the processes you want to exclude. I excluded almost every (especially exclude Tasker)
except Pandora. We need to set it to the One Button Option so that Tasker can Load it (otherwise it loads up with the options screen and you would need to press some buttons), but once you set it to that option you can’t edit your exclusions without uninstalling and reinstalling the App (and then it loses your setting and you need start all over again, not a good thing). So test it first. When satisfied it works the way you want, Set the One Button Option to Yes. Now Opening or Loading the Fast Reboot Pro App will execute the close/restart processes that the Widget does. So that’s the way we Kill Pandora. First, we Pause Pandora by Playing doubleTwist. Then, we Pause doubleTwist. And finally we Kill them both. We now have everything in the Off State ready for our next listening connection.

Tasker Profiles

I use Pandora five ways:

  1. Bluetooth Stereo Headphones – State/Bluetooth Connected/Bluetooth Stereo Headphones
  2. Wired Stereo Headphones – State/Headphones Plugged In and State/Not Bluetooth Connected/Car Bluetooth (CLS)
  3. Bluetooth Car Audio (Acura MDX) – State/Bluetooth Connected/Car Bluetooth (MDX)
  4. Wired Car Audio to AUX Input (Mercedes CLS550) – State/Headhones Plugged In and State/Bluetooth Connected/Car Bluetooth (CLS)
  5. Play through the phone speaker – Hardly ever use this, but if you do…be sure to Quit (not Pause) Pandora when you’re finished to insure the Tasker will work properly when used
In addition to having Tasker Load Pandora I have it adjust the Phone’s Media Volume because the Bluetooth connections all require Media Volume to be set at maximum because the Bluetooth device controls the volume. But with wired headphones you need the phone to control the volume. So for the wired headphones I have Tasker set the volume to level 5. So here are my tasks to get ‘r done.

Start Tasks

  1. Display/Turn On
  2. Media/Media Volume/Level 15
  3. Apps/Load App/Pandora (for some connections I use Tasker/Perform Task/Music App Menu from the Tasker Wiki)

End Tasks

  1. Media/Media Volume/Level 0 (Not needed for Wired Connections, but for Bluetooth Connections you get a blip of music until the other commands are executed)
  2. Apps/Load App/App doubleTwist (not required for Wired Headphone Connection)
  3. Media/Media Control/Cmd Toggle Pause (not required for Wired Headphone Connection)
  4. Media/Media Control/Cmd Pause (note Stop does not work) (not required for Wired Headphone Connection)
  5. Tasker/Wait/5 Seconds
  6. Apps/Load App/Fast Reboot Pro
  7. Tasker/Wait/5 Seconds
  8. Media/Media Volume/Level 5
This works for all my Pandora sound devices, with some minor adjustments for each device. I hope this helps you and you find this works for you. If anyone knows of an easier way to do this, I’d love to hear about it.
