What have YOU done with Tasker?

is it possible... to randomly play one of four notification sounds when i receive a text message? or just in order play each of the four? if you can help, keep in mind i'm still learning this stuff...!

use received text as profile

in the task use variable randomize with %RINGSOUND min 1 max 4
(MEDIA) Play Ringtone if %RINGSOUND matches 1,2,3 or 4 for each ring tone

under variable tab set %RINGSOUND to 1

I haven't been happy with any of the "Bible Verse of the Day" apps and widgets in the market. I'd like to be able to create my own using Tasker, Minimalistic Text, and the verse of the day from Biblegateway.com I tried modifying a few of the profiles listed in this thread but with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd like to make a photo and send via sms or email if i send a sms with "photo" text. If the phone is stolen i can have a photo.
How can i do this?
Thank you very much for answer

Create Variable %StolenFilename as Stolen
Create Variable %Shots as 1
Create a task
(Task) For %Shots items 10
(Variable) Variable Join %StolenFilename %Shots
(media) Photo - under filename put %StolenFilename
(Phone) Compose MMS (number is whoever you want to get pictures) Attachments %StolenFilename
(task) wait 1 second
(Task) end for

sends 10 mms pictures (change the number of items for more or less)

I'm looking to tackle Tasker and wanted to start small. As a simple test I wanted to ramp up an example to learn from in these stages:

1. Have the phone speak a phrase at a specific time.

2. Have the phone speak welcome messages upon my arriving home.

3. Have the phone speak those messages with variable phrasing based on the time of day/night.

Already I've hit a confusing point. I set up one to just say "Time to party!" a few minutes from the time I created it. The time came and went. No sound. I then turned on the phone to see what was wrong and immediately I heard, "Time to party!". What do I need to do to have the phone speak regardless of the phone being

the delay is probably down the the settings for display off monitoring - Tasker takes longer to check when the screen is off

1. use profile time
2. use state, net, wifi connected to home SSID or location
3. use profile time to set variable and IF condition on (misc) say

Great app. This may be here already. I read about the first 30 pages, then decidedI'd just ask. Looking for a simple Profile. I'd like to have extended or no screen timeout during telenav while plugged in. I can do the extended screen timeout, but I haven't worked out the when plugged in part. That way should I forget to exit telenav when I leave the car, the screen would then timeout. Thanks for your help.

I have some of the basics set up
-Turn Wifi on when I hit certain cell towers near work and home
-Silent Mode if my phone is face down or there's a meeting on my calendar
-Play Loud music if I test my phone #LOST
-Display an App menu if I plug in headphones.

What I'm wondering if tasker has a way to change App settings based on other events. Is there any way to turn off Handcent's pop-ups when Vlingo is activated, and turn them back on when its not? Currently, Handcent's SMS pop-ups block all apps, so Vlingo will not read me my texts in the car. Knowing the power of tasker, I would think it would be possible, I just can't figure out how. Any help is very much appreciated.

Handcent would have to have a plug in for tasker to control it. Check your "plug ins" and "3rd party" task options, if there's something there for handcent you can do something to it via tasker. Otherwise, not.

You want to set a condition of the same profile to State -> Power -> Any

I have followed the steps here: Low Battery Usage Wifi Enableing Profile Using Wifi Near - Tasker Wiki to turn wifi on/off.
But why all this hassle?

Why don't create one profile "Home", which is active when "Cell near" and turn wifi on/off?

Using your suggestion:
If you turn on airplane mode in your home area, Tasker will think you are still there the whole time you are in airplane mode and will enable wifi while you think you are in airplane and suck your battery.

Hi

I've just signed up in this forum and read through this huge 92p thread...

Now I have a question about how to disable the Profile set: "Low Battery Usage Wifi Enableing Profile Using Wifi Near".

I have a PowerSave Task that's enabled when the Battery level falls below 20%. Sometimes I activate the PowerSave task manually by a widget just to save the battery.
The problem is that I can't seem to disable Wifi with this "Low Battery..." profile enabled.

Advice please
Add to your Powersave profile to disable your "Home", "Connected", and your "Wifi On" profiles. Sorry its been almost a year since you asked but this might be helpful for others.

What ^^^ he said. Don't forget to enable the disabled profiles on exit. Use this strategy with overlapping profiles. For example I have location profiles that key off of cell towers first then maybe wifi ssid or bluetooth. Work and home don't overlap on cell or wifi ssid but I could be In_Car (connected to the car bluetooth) at either location. As a general profile template I always set a variable for that profile to 1 when entering and reset to 0 on exit. Similar for tasks/complex conditions. Then it's easier to check conditions.

Pseudo code for my In_Car profile:
When connected to car bluetooth "Uconnect"
Enter
%inCAR = 1
If %atHOME == 1
Exit At_Home //also sets %atHOME = 0
Disable At_Home
If %atWORK == 1
Exit At_Work
Disable At_Work
Set everything for being in the car
Exit
%inCAR = 0
Set stuff back to some defaut generic_location task
Enable At_Home
Enable At_Work

It's worth putting some thought into a general strategy and "framework" for all your profiles. Extra work up front and some extra or unnecessary overhead but you have flexibility going forward and should save on rework in the future.

Hi, I've got a profile for State/Display Off for which the action is to disable mobile data. Is there a way to stop Tasker from performing said action when a specific application is running. For example, the problem I'm having is that when I'm using TuneIn Radio and I turn off the screen, mobile data then shuts off and TuneIn Radio obviously stops working. Thanks in advance for any help.

Create a variable to be set to 1 when tune in is open and to 0 when it is not then use that variable as a second context for your display off profile

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm having trouble understanding Variables and how they work even though I've read the Tasker user guide. If it's not too much trouble would you please explain your above post with a bit more detail. I'd very much appreciate it.

I'll write up a quick set of instructions this afternoon
