Where The Ladies At?

The Droid is a brick compared to the iPhone.

The iphone weighs 4.8 OZ. The Droid weighs 5.8 OZ. I didn't know that one OZ was all that separated a brick from a feather.

To be precise the Droid is 26% heavier than an iPhone (3gs). (169 v 135 grams). That is a noticeable difference. Furthermore, the droid is both longer and thicker than the iPhone. Such diffeences make no difference to me. I actually prefer the heftier feel of the Droid. The fact remains that I've heard more than one woman complain about the size and feel of the Droid compared to the iPhone.

Furthermore, it's simply a fact that the greater popularity of "smartphones" among men means that more women are moving up to a smartphone for the first time. The fact that the Droid is among the heaviest of the breed (if not the heaviest) means the contrast will be especially noticeable to women.

Look. The Droid already faces significant obstacles in competing with the iPhone (as well as other smartphones) among women simply as a result of its form factor and "computer-like" interface. An advertising campaign that looks like it was designed for boys who grew up on Transformers certainly does nothing to lessen that inherent gender bias.

So what does Motorola do to balance that with a phone that emphasizes a social networking UI and a less intimidating form factor? They introduce something called the "Devour" that looks like a Droid, weighs as much, and has a mediocre camera. The designers at Motorola need to supplement their engineering classes with at least a couple of marketing classes.

The Droid pretty much leans towards men. Look at it, its square, not all curvy and glossy like the iPhone. The iPhone is pretty much designed to be dummy proof, where as I think the Droid is a bit more "work" to get it set up the way you want.

The positives for me with the Droid is that its very customizable and it can do just about anything. It just takes a little bit of research to find out how to make it do what you want it to do. I would think iPhone useres tend to drift towards the "ease of use" aspect.

Oh, 3 weeks after launch I was in Atlantic city playing poker and a very attractive girl had a Droid. It had some funky pokodot purple skin on it which made me cringe, but hey, whatever floats your boat.

well, both my wife and I had LG NV2's. I opted to spend the bug bucks and buy my Droid long before our contract was up (cuz I just had to have a Droid!). She has stood back in the shadows watching me NJoy my new phone. But, she says it's just too big and bulky for her. She likes the size of the NV2. When the official contract is up and she's eligible for a new phone, she thinks she's going to do something like the NV3 or whatever the other phones in that line are. She sees no need for web access or most of the other stuff that 'smart' phones do.

This is fine for me because that saves us $30/month for data feed. Being the cheap bastard I am, I'm discouraging her at every turn.

I, on the other hand had to convince my husband that I HAD to have a droid. (He went with a blackberry)

Make that 20$ a month...EnV3 Requires a data plan of 10$

Female Droid Owner Here

I am a happy, female Droid owner who chose the Droid because of its weight, features, and look. It feels like a quality item and it is. I owned a Storm and the Droid is only slightly heavier and larger. That is where the comparison ends between a Droid and a Storm. I bought an Amethyst Seidio case and haven't looked back. I know a couple of other female Droid owners. Not sure who answered the survey but I would bet there are more female Droid owners out there.

How many of you fellow Droid nerds are female?

I was just wondering how many of us are women? It seems like we're outnumbered by men (why is that??), but I was just wondering by how much...

I'm male myself - but I work at a college, and going by what i've seen just as many females use the Droid as males. It could be, however, that males are more likely than females to frequent technical forums (this holds true in alot of cases from what i've experienced) so you just don't see the female Droid users as much.

I've seen a couple of women with them but for the most part the droid probably isn't pretty enough for some women's tastes.

male here, i actually know at least three of my girl friends that wanted the droid, two of them got it, one of them thought was too bulky and not pretty for her. one of the two that got it, also got different skins for it, like pink with flowers and purple...
going back to your question though, i told them about these forums and they both told me they didn't have that kind of time and that's why they had me. wtf! lol.

Moi! I'm a woman with a droid. I just switched from my BB Curve last week & think I made the right decision. So far, so good!
