Why all the hype?

There, I said it. I'm in the market for a new phone within the next month or so. The Samsung Fascinate seemed like a pretty cool alternative to the Droid X. But as I did more research, the Fascinate became less and less appealing.

Some of the main things being:
1. Internal memory: The X trounces the Samsung
2. Bing? - 'nuff said
3. HDMI Out: Not sure on this one. I know that the X has it
4. Forced to use VZ Navigator - This alone would be a deal breaker for me

It seams as though the only thing the Samsung has going for it is the AMOLED display, which everyone is raving about.

Anyway, these are just things I picked up on. If anyone can clarify, then please do.

Easy root will allow you to remove Bing if its locked, if not, just replace it.
You can download and use google maps, its just not pre-installed.
They have a HDMI out USB cable for the Fascinate
Buy a bigger memory card if you need more.

I think when he is talking about VZ Navigator he is meaning turn by turn navigation. Google maps can be downloaded on almost every phone platform out there. I also cannot see why a phone running an OS made by Google would be limited to only BING... ?

My personal opinion is the X is just constructed better than any of the Galaxy S phones. They feel very "plasticky" to me and being in the military my phones get abused. I currently have both the D1 and DX and have held up great. Minus the D1's loose keyboard.

The OS made by Google is locked to Bing because M$ paid VZW to lock it.

It is now confirmed that you cannot download google search without root.

One more reason to stick with my D1. I wish Google would force carriers into vanilla android. With the surge of the android OS Google has the upper hand in my opinion.

Hype?

So, Motorola is the only Company that can promote/hype smart phones with generous offerings? I don't understand your subject statement.

I, myself, am going with the Fascinate because:

A: It sports THE most gorgeous display I've ever seen. It is truly awesome.

B: It is the perfect size and weight for what I am after.

C: Unlocked Bootloader. Can I get a big "Hell Yeah"?!? :)

I invite you to check out some Galaxy S phones that are already avail from T-Mo and AT&T. You may fall for one too....:icon_wink:

1. I don't see how 2gb for apps should be MORE than enough, if not there's always froyo coming our way for apps2sd.

2. Can always be removed once rooted and it's not like it's nasty **** anyways.

3. Samsung Galaxy S Will Be Able to do MicroUSB to HDMI for Video Out | Android Phone Fans

4. You're not forced. You can download google nav on the market.

I see it as fascinate > x

because of unlocked bootloader, much impressive super amoled screen and the gpu.

I don't recall saying that Motorola is the only company that can hype their phones. I'm just curious as to why this phone is already getting raves, and it's not even out yet.

Funny thing is, based on what I've read over the last 48 hours or so, the Fascinate probably will be my next phone as well. :)

As for your item "C"...........Hell Yeah!!

Sounds doable to me then ;)
BTW, how does the memory on the fascinate compare to the D1? I have never had a issue with memory.
