Why oh why???

The pentile bugs me so I guess thats why I think the OG Droid's is better. Thats why I am going for the Galaxy Nexus. Even though its pentile the PPI is so high you probably won't notice it.

Yep, PenTile is still noticeable even with the qHD resolution. Hopefully it's less noticeable on the Nexus. One thing for sure is that the GNex will be one hell of a phone. I wish you good luck in your future purchase. :)

HTC's screens look the "best" and most "true" imo, but you can't seen them well at all in daylight... so yeah, pick your poison...

I'm excited to see the Rezound's screen in person, especially since I've read that it's got a whooping 342 ppi. My concern with the Rezound is the battery life mostly. So much fun having 3 great phones to choose from.

Yep because of the easy to unlock bootloader and its stock android.

i know the reasons and i respect em....i think both of these phones are gonna be pretty big game changers in the droid world...the razr is gonna keep the average user happy and the gnex is gonna keep the devs happy....who will be happiest....vzw...

The pentile makes sense if you care about how long your battery is gonna last every day, right?

The original Droid had a quality display but it really ate the battery. With the RAZR/D3/etc., Moto has now decided to sacrifice some display sharpness, etc. for precious battery life. For me, right now, pentile is good enough. Do I dream of better displays? Yes, but I right now I need the extra battery power.

Maybe Motorola does that but the reason the Nexus's screen is pentile is because its HD. They probably didn't want to make it with the RGB Stripe pixel layout because it would cost to much or they might not have been able to yet. That happened with the original Galaxy. Now the Galaxy S II has the a better screen that doesn't use pentile.

I guess I shouldn't have mentioned pentile. I just meant to say that there can be battery savings when the display isn't as sharp/awesome.

I disagree with you completely. The resolution on the Razr is higher (everything to my eyes looks much crisper), blacks are deeper and colors are more vibrant.
And I have to disagree with you completely. I went to the VZW store today to play with the Razr and I loaded the same sites on my OG Droid and the Razr. Things looked way clearer and sharper on my OG Droid v/s the Razr. The pentile screen - screendoor effect really bothers me, and it causes small text (especially when they are in a color other than black on white) to look very "checkered" and not sharp at all.

What made it worse is that there was a picture of a black phone on the webpage, and the left edge of the black phone had a thin line of green sub-pixels showing, and the right hand side of the phone image had a thin red-subpixel line showing. Effectively, for high contrast images on the screen, with a white/light background, you can make out a color cast on either side of the outline of the image due to the Pentile display subpixel layout.

I was just absolutely disappointed with what I saw and what made it worse is that all the top phones now have this awful pentile display. My OG droid screen is miles better than all of them. It might not be as bright as some, but it sure has better color accuracy, and displays small text much much more clearly. It is amazing that 2 years after its release, the screens on all the latest phones have gotten crappier, while the price on the phones is getting higher and higher.

I'll have to wait to see what the Nexus screen looks like, but I'm not holding out much hope on that being any better. Looks like I'll have to pass on these phones. No way in hell I'm paying $150+ to buy a new phone with a poorer display. I know that some people aren't as bothered, or don't notice the poor display quality on the Pentile screens, but it is blatantly obvious to me and I can't stand how things look on it. I was hoping that all the press releases about this pentile technology being improved were actually true, but it seems to be hype, because the display quality was fairly comparable to the older pentile display screens that were on display at VZW.

If you turn the brightness up the screen looks great. Go look for yourself. These online pics of greenish screens are crap. The only "issue" is a slight bluish tint when viewed from a sharp angle.

I agree with this entire post. What some ppl see as greenish is when the brightness is lowered, or that was the case when I tested it. But...at a lower brightness setting the whole quality of almost any screen goes away. Instead of greenish you may see greyish on some phones.

Pentile on the RAZR? For me barely noticeable to not noticeable at my normal viewing distances.

NO YOU'RE WRONG! I kid, i kid. To each his/her own. PenTile bothers some people more than others. Lots of people don't even notice the sub pixels. The OG Droid definitely has more accurate colors but the Razr to me overall is more impressive. Blacks look much deeper and the contrast seems better to my eyes than on the OGD. Colors are a bit overblown but not as much as on other Samoled screens such as the Charge and the SGS2.

I doubt that the Nexus Galaxy will be any different. I believe people who really dislike PenTile will always notice it regardless of the 720p resolution. Have you looked at the Rezound? It uses SLCD rather than Super Amoled. From what I've read and seen, it could be the dark horse. People are sleeping on this device. If HTC can squeeze out some good battery life, the Rezound has a chance of being the best device out of the 3.

Another opinion: The green tint is a bigger issue for me as I use auto brightness, which has never degraded quality in any other screen for me. I feel it is a bigger issue (coupled with the blue tint and over-saturated colors) than the Bionic's pentile effects, which I ended up being able to completely forget about. I honestly grew to love the Bionic's screen, and would have it over the amoled if I could, in the RAZR's case of course :) Still, I'll probably grow to ignore the tinting at least somewhat, and the over-saturated colors. I do not feel that the RAZR's screen takes much away from the fantastic device that it is.

I agree turn up the brightness and it looks fine.

However I believe from seeing video's of the Nexus you won't have to do that - it will be a much superior screen.

i was noticing the blue tine as well..and my brightness was set to 27%..i jacked it up to 75% and it is gone...i know that will decrease my battery life..but..i am hoping that some well placed smart actions can offset the change...we shall see...

Some of these posters don't even have a Razr and it's a shame. I had the Original Droid and now I have the Razr. You can adjust the brightness a lot more than the Original and the screen is much better. This bluish tint and pixel crap is nit picking. The Razr is a great Smartphone. And speaking of a phone, it is very clear and the other end says it sounds good too.

If you're thing about a Razr, take some of these posts as pure envy.........:bump:
