WiFi password backup

I remember something similar. I think it was a new device that I took to my in-laws for the first time & it had their network info. But I know since then I've had to add their network on my 6P when I reset it.

And this from back in 2014 for regular Android which wasn't an option on my Note4 when I just checked it.

I'm going to reset my phone and see what happens.
I'm almost certain that I had to put the in-law's info back in last time I reset my phone for repair.

As for Google drive, I have the account, though I don't really save stuff to it, so not having drive can't be my issue.

I'm thinking what used to be automatic with Google account got moved to Drive and a manual sync? I have it frozen and did so back with my first Notes too so I guess can't test it out without doing an fdr.

Sure enough, when I got home earlier this evening, I had to put my WiFi password in before it would connect. I do utilize Google Drive but nothing was saved to that pertaining to WiFi passwords.

I thought when they introduced Lollipop, (maybe even KitKat) that when you got a brand new phone, it would ask if you wanted it set up like the last phone that was logged in to Google.

It asks - do you want to sync with Google? when setting it up. What it syncs is fairly limited. It won't ask if you want it set like your old phone. Wish it did/would.

I can see both sides of this. While I'd love to have the option at some point in the past (whatever firmware the Rezound had when it died) Google saved all my stuff and pushed it to my devices ( with JB from the box) without my permission. Now it seems instead of just asking if I want it all saved for forwarding they don't save the stuff I might want most. I don't know about y'all but I don't remember my Wi-Fi credentials and any hacker with their salt probably has them already.

I've replaced both mine and my wife's Droid Turbo 2 with CLNR devices recently (last month), and in both cases and through several replacements until we got two that worked correctly in each replacement the WiFi configured itself with no input from me.

What? Starting in lollipop, there's an option for which of your previous devices to set this one up like, or there's the tap-n-go nfc trick. It got better in Marshmallow. It's definitely a thing though. I did no setup on my home screens & such when I got my fdr'd 6P back from repair.

In the past, when I've done a factory reset, if I tell it to sync with Google it reinstalled the apps and some credentials but not the data associated with the apps. I don't necessarily consider that as a good idea as I may not have wanted/needed some of those apps. Not having them installed in the first place is frequently better than having them installed and uninstalling them.

I use iDrive for backups, (not free but worth the $5/yr. imo) and it restored all but my E-Mail settings last time I got a new phone.

When you select the device, it gives you the option to install all previously installed apps or you can select the ones you want with a drop down list now.
