WiFi woes

I just updated to .604 hoping that it would fix this damn 802.11n issue. I have an Apple Time Capsule/Airport router. It is so intermittent that its unusable. Went downstairs and tried it with an older 802.11g network and it worked fine. Unfortunately There is no "G" only mode on this router. Only 2.4ghz N (a/b/g) compatible.

Considering all the hoops I've had to jump through to get this thing to half work properly, I'm really pissed that they would release this overhyped paperweight.

It's going back, and I'll just have to wait for the IPhone to come out on Verizon.
Hold yer breath, My X will be here tomorrow, can't you turn N off on the phone? Do you have your SID hidden?? I have a timecapsule also so I'll find out about this shortly. How old is your TC, dual band or single? 7.2 software?

The phone has no option to control what type of 802.11 you're running. Its either on or off. Phone will NOT work with 802.11n 5GHZ, only 2.4 GHZ. My Time Capsule is dual band V7.4.2. Phone has a slew of other issues, this is just one very annoying one.

Well I got a Iphone4 on launch day, returned it yesterday. I ordered the X so we will see. I'm going to use my 3GS for two weeks while I check the X out, then port in. Having lived through WiFi issues with my Ipad until the recent update, this should be easy.

Droid X and wireless N

On this website I just found a post where someone tweaks their incredible to be compatible with wireless N ..Anyone see this post ??

Downgrading to 802.11g Helps Resolve Intermittent Wifi Disconnects

Yes- I have verified that downgrading to 802.11g on a 802.11n router helps resolve Intermittent Wifi Disconnects. Hopefully Motorola will resolve this quickly.

Thanks for that insight it makes sense now to me. I have a Links wireless N router and don't think I can down grade it to wireless G. I have friends who have G so I will test it on their systems...George

WIFI Now working on my phone

I'm not sure why but my WIFI just started working on my phone. I did the new software update I wonder if that fixed something. I put my phone in Airplane mode just to be sure I wasn't connected through Verizon.

I just got off the phone with Motorola. Firstly I'd like to say that they have the WORST support I've EVER encountered. It's as if they are purposely trying to avoid talking to customers. This is enough reason for me to not own this phone. They have confirmed the 802.11n issue and stated that it will be fixed with the 2.2 version. Well thats all well and good, but thats going to come out AFTER my 30 days return policy runs out, and I have ABSOLUTELY no confidence in Motorola at this point. SO I'm not going to risk being stuck with this phone if the next version doesnt address the problem.

This problem isn't necessarily a software issue. It could be a hardware issue with the 802.11 radio, which would mean that all the phones would need to be returned. I just called Verizon and asked them to honor the return policy beyond the 30 days untill the 2.2 Version comes out. They refused. Their best offer was for me to return the phone, and wait until 2.2 comes out, then I can see if the new version fixes the problem.

I'm sorry, I've been waiting for over a year with my piece of crap Voyager for a new smart phone. I'm going to return the phone and switch to Sprint and their EVO. I've seen this phone in action and it blows this piece of crap away.

I've been a loyal Verizon customer for about 7 years because of their (used to be) great customer service. But it seems that things have changed over time.

I too am having problems with my droid x connecting through wireless N mode. I'm using a Dlink DIR 655 router. I can connect when I toggle the wifi on, but it will disconnect a few seconds later. I've tested on G mode and it works fine with no issue whatsoever. I thought that the update would fix the issue, but it didn't.

I had the same issue as you on the same router on my Droid 1 and just conceded and used the wireless G mode through my router. :(

I have the Wi-Fi Analyzer app.
I check the Channel Rating option it shows me that I'm connected to channel 6 and the rating isn't so well as others for example channel 1.
How can I switch channels? I tried messing around in the phone settings but couldn't find anything.

I have a linksys wireless n running mixed mode and a droid x with the new update.. never had any issues before or after the OTA update with mine works fine.. just cas some devices work fine on your router doesnt mean your router is not the cause.. routers' firmware is consistently updated to add support for newer or other devices, check the routers firmware to see if could be updated.. at the very least reset it and maybe restore to factory settings

I wouldn't go that far to say the evo blows the x out of the water.. my roomate has the evo and I'd say the X is identical to it except that I have 3g service everywhere he does and doesn't... now that the X has the TI OMAP 1ghz chip it processes numbers as fast but graphics will blow the snapdragon out of the water, so I think you have zero justification to say the evo is so much better than the X, also i've seen my fair share of plastic HTC phones just start falling apart after months of use, have yet to see that with the new metal moto's... I guess pick your poison.. I think VZW customer support is absolutely superb that combined with the service coverage made me gladly pay a premium over sprint

I'm not here to get into a pissing match over what phone is better. I'm here to try and identify and possibly resolve a real problem with this phone. Lets just say I've been around computers and networks for a while now, and this is not a problem with my router. I have checked for all the usual suspects, and its pretty obvious by the number of other replies on this thread, that there is a real problem with the phone, not to mention that Motorola has acknowledged the problem exists. I'm looking forward to seeing your speed test results.

I've read reports of people saying enabling TKIP encryption seems to help their phone work, but I experienced the opposite. Only when using AES am I able to get Wi-Fi working. When I enable TKIP on my router's settings page, my phone's Wi-Fi goes dead until I change it to Open or AES.

Weird, right?

Also, at school using my university's thousand-dollar routers, I have no problem, and it's encrypted with TKIP + AES.

Yet, at home, even with AES, my Wi-Fi signal seems to stall and quit sporadically, without cause. ALL other devices work fine (netbook, iPod touch, TV, Wii, etc.)

Very suspicious imo!

I got my X today and did the update then set up my wireless for my home network, and I have to say I haven't had any issues what so ever. My router is a Belkin wireless N router. Maybe the update fixed something but I never did anything until I did the update so I couldnt say. Haven't found any other issues yet.....

Edit: router is running in B,G,N. I can't switch it to just N because I have 3 devices not N
