Will Verizon let me upgrade really early?

You think everyone understands it but that's not the case. You understand it, but the average noob might not. Just making sure that it's clarified, that's all.

You said "Cyangenmod will be coming to the X very soon". Must have been a typo

Oops, you are correct. I don't know how I did that... :)

Okay, so now you went back and corrected it making me look like the a$$...lol. Good thing it doesn't change in my post where I quoted you.

@Jay...you say its incorrect to call the tb's bootloader unlocked, yes, it was locked. It has been unlocked though quite easily. Once you unlock it via rooting, It's unlocked. You can't put cm on a phone that's locked, but once you unlock it (s-off) you can flash anything. I think we all understand this, but I also think we understood that calling it unlocked meant that it can be unlocked...

You didn't look like an ass... And you saw that I said oops you were correct, didn't know how I did that. Of course I had to go back and correct my mistake. But since it seems to bother you... Let the world know that you officially caught me make a mistake... :)

Feel better? :)

Not really, can you find another word to use like " I feel like a jerk?" Or "I look like a jerk." Remember family friendly at all times.

I wouldn't call myself a noob, but for some reason I held the words "locked" and "encrypted" synonymous to eachother in regards to the bootloader.

I currently have a DROIDX, and am dying for the Thunderbolt. I am in the Verizon loyalty program, but am not due for an upgrade until March 2012. Is there a chance they would let me trade in for the Thunderbolt? Paying the difference between the two of course.

All it would be is a phone change, as I have the unlimited plan now anyway.

Thabks. Also, hi!!

What is the Loyalty Program? If that's where they bill you ridiculous sums of money each month to use your phone then by all means I must be a member too. never got a membership card though. :icon_evil:

I came from the same point you are in. When it comes to something I REALLY want I will usually find a way. I had the Droid X also. Good phone but all in all, I was happy to get rid of it as the Thunderbolt in my opinion is a WAY nicer phone all around. NOT ONE thing I miss about that phone!!!!

you have 2 options here that do not include verizon at all...

1). find someone who has wanted to upgrade to a droid X for a while but hasn't made the move to do so. Even though the droid X is fading out of date with all the new phones coming out, there are still lots of people out there who want it. you have to find that person that doesn't care about having THE most recent up to date smartphone but wants to upgrade to at least the X. If your phone is in good shape then you sell them your phone. For instance, 2 months ago my droid X was having an issue and verizon sent me a new one. because it was so new the phone was in like new condition with a case and screen protector. I posted on motorcycle forum I am on that I had a "Like new" droid X for sale and was looking for someone who had an upgrade available. The deal was....you buy my droid X for $150 and I use your upgrade to purchase the Thunderbolt. They get the droid X they want and you get your thunderbolt. I had 5 people who wanted it, but none of them had an upgrade available so I had to get the wheels spinning again which brought me to option 2.

2). find a close friend or family member with an available upgrade. in my case my best friends wife LOVED her droid 1. she isnt' the type of person who likes to get a new phone every year and hates to learn a new phone. My best friends work had just switched their company to the iphone so he had no use for his droid 1. which meant if his wifes phone died, she had a brand new back up. (Verizon sent him a "like new" droid 1 due to issues as well) She wouldn't pay $250 for any kind of upgrade so she let me use her upgrade.

Now I combined option 1 and option 2....

My friend ordered the thunderbolt and activated it under his account then unactivated it and swithced his wifes number back to her droid 1, then gave the phone to me. I simply call up verizon and tell them my friend bought the Thunderbolt but didn't like it so I bought it off of him. They switch my phone over righ tthen and there. that night I call up the first person that contacted me on my motorcycle forum and he met up with me with $150. I then go to meet my friend and hand over the $250 he paid.

BOOM BAM I got myself a thunderbolt and I wasn't eligable till March 15th 2012!

You just have to get creative. I am a salesman so I am pretty good with thinking outside the box to get what I want. Nobody got screwed over in this deal and everyone is happy.

All the more reason that it should be clarified then. That way people know the difference.

That's a pretty good idea, my sister has an upgrade... perhaps I could do something similar to number 2!

As for the loyalty program, as far as I know they are starting to phase it out. Basically for being a customer for a long time, you are allowed to upgrade 3 months early. I'm not sure if that's accurate, but that's what I remember.

I love my D1 but the lags and redraws are madding.
I too have to wait for nearly a year for an upgrade and they're not budging.
Fair enough, I got the phone for $20 and 2 years, not their fault I want something
faster.

So does it make sense to get something like a DX for $300 or pay $500
for one of the new 'Super phones'? Or just wait my year and update then
when there'll be even more fantastic choices?

I gotta say, I used to love my DROIDX. Now I'm finally realizing the issues. Motorola takes ages to roll out Android updates, not to mention there's a total lack of customization. Battery life is horrible.

Thanks to the people who have posted here, I may finally be rid of this thing!

Went into the store and they looked odd like to me and said,
"Come back next month and get your upgrade then"

So I guess I get a TB? We get 4G then too. They are pushing extra batteries
and car chargers.

Next month I get a new phone, now which one?

How come the nice lady on the phone was wrong?

If you want 4 different answers, ask 4 different VZW reps...
