Wireless Tether troubleshooting

It's one of the reasons why they keep updating the permissions app -- sometimes things get screwed up. Another reason not to randomly update the app if you're not having issues. :)

Latest is not always the greatest! :D

Amen to that, I don't have the latest wireless tether cause the newest force closes when I try to run it.

Similar problems here :(
Droid X, trying to Wireless Tether to Windows Vista laptop.
Currently running Wireless Tether pre-14 (same problem with pre-9, and possibly other versions). The WT app itself appears to work fine, and in fact connected beautifully to my computer for the first two days I was rooted. Since then, however, the computer only connects to the phone's wireless network with "Limited Connectivity" or "Local" - either way, no internet access.
I've changed from Channel 6 to 7
Encryption on, with the default passphrase.
Bluetooth off
Access Control off (never switched on)

Other thoughts?? This is the only reason I rooted, so it's rather frustrating that it worked for two days and now connects, but not to the outside world.

That's the last stable version.

What I've found is I have to delete and recreate the profile and/or renew my IP address when I connect to the WiFi tether. It's another step, but I do like the new features of 2.0.5PRE release versions.

Try this link. The Wireless Tether developer gave it to me, and I downloaded the apk, and my tethering has worked fine ever since. wireless_tether_2_0_2.apk - android-wifi-tether - Wireless Tether for Root Users 2.0.2 - Project Hosting on Google Code
That's the version I had :( thanks though...

Can you please elaborate upon that, and/or how I might go about doing that?

Are you using the stock connection software or something through a third party? Like, for example, a Dell-specific connection program, or software developed by the chipset developer like Via or Realtek?

AFAIK, stock software. It's a Toshiba laptop, and I haven't DL'd anything additional (at least that hasn't been auto-DL'd in an MS update).
