16gb or 32gb?

I expect there will be a 32GB version. I don't see why there wouldn't be. It's not like Samsung didn't already design one.

Verizon sells the 16, 32 and 64 GB iPod's, why would they tell Samsung, "No, don't bother, we don't want to make more money"?

I'm also sure that the 32GB version will be more than $299. Yes, the iPod 32 GB is only $299, but it doesn't have 4G.

I have a question for those using the ICS Google music or any cloud based music player. I don't get it. Help me understand......you upload all your music to the cloud so that you can stream it from there? IMHO if you don't have unlimited data......data is MORE expensive than storage. why wouldn't you want to keep all your music local as opposed to possibly run up data charges for listening to your own music??

Plus there's the "how do you listen to your own music if you're in a bad signal area???"

Am I missing something?

Personally I like using Subsonic, the server sits in my house so I don't need to upload my music anywhere and the phone caches the files locally so you can play anything cached in the event you are without a signal. The cache size and location can be configured, I keep mine at 5GB so I always have a decent selection cached. It can trans code any format into mp3 to send to the phone at whatever bit rate you want. I have mine at 160kps for 3G and 320kbs for wifi (both can be set independent in the client). I don't consider it a true streaming app because it's basically downloading the songs in advance and storing them in mp3 format. It can start playing as soon it's downloaded enough of the first song you select then it will continue to buffer songs in the back ground depending on what song count you set the client at.

The server is java based and can be installed in a number of different ways and platforms. I run the Windows based installer which runs it as a background service.

The cons are it's dependent on the speed of your home Internet connection, you'd still want to be on an unlimited data plan and to continue using the Android client past 30 days, you need to make a "donation" to the app developer. I donated $10 about a year ago and have been using it without issue since then. The donation unlocks the server and you can have as many android/iphone/web clients you want attached as long as your bandwidth can handle it.

No way this phone will cost less than $299 at launch, even for the 16gb version. If we do get two versions, this is what I see happening:

16gb: $299
32gb: $399

If we only get a 32gb version, then I would think they'd price it at $299 to compete with the other phones, since there's just one version of it.

It's just how Big Red rolls.

I hope i will not regret this question, but what are you guys are putting on your phones? 16 gb is alot of space. On my phone i have-14 gigs available.
i have 580 songs on my sd card of my phone and its only 3 gigabytes.
around 350 photos, which is 1 gb
another 1gb of items that are-not from custom romming/theming, music, pictures.

thats only 5gb there. now lets add on idk, 2-7gb from maybe a movie or two, files, and accumulated files that apps make automatically.

5+7=12. 15-12=3gb left. still alot of space.

a rooter and someone who installs custom roms need more space, but that can always be organized for example i move my backups onto my computer to backup the backups (:D) then delete them off my phone. i also delete roms and themes i have no need to keep. Lets say this is 5gb.

so thats -2 gigabytes. NOW, lets take off a movie or another large uneeded file and get some space. there you go, SPACE.

32gb is great to have, however, not needed. 64 gb is just a complete abundance of unused space.

AND as for the price-

im very shaky on this. but im going to guess $249.99 for 16gb and $349.99 for 32gb.
my reasoning- new OS, same amount of money as droid bionic but half the memory. in the past, i have seen usually $100 increase from 16-32 thats how i got 349.99 for 32gb. and also, looking at the iphone4s 64gb as $400, theres no way that galaxy nexus can match the price with only half the memory.

I have 10GB of music on my 16GB sd card in my OG. If VZW only gets the 16GB that means the OS will probably take up 3-4GB plus the 10GB I have of music. I think 16GB formatted turns into about 14GB which would leave me with absolutely no space but there have been a few suggestions of alternative ideas. I'd prefer the 32GB just so I know I'd be able to keep my music on the phone rather than upload it to Google Music and I'd still have lots of space left.

that is why they are selling the 32gig one. for your situation.

the average person does not have 10 gigs of music though.

I'm a big fan of podcasts, and most of those are about an hour. Along with music and apps (espcially with a new HD screen to deal with, which means higher capacity apps) 32gb would be enough for all that.

All depends on how you use your phone. Some people use them as a main music player, so 16gb will not be enough. Me, I don't have that much. Maybe 4gb of music and a few pics. For music, I usually listen to local FM radio stations or do the internet radio thing. For me personally, 16gb will be enough. After all, my D1 has a 16gb memory and virtually non-existent internal memory, and I still have plenty of storage to go, and that's after almost 2 years of use.

podcasts, yea those will kill your storage. maybe you can stream them somehow or put them on the "cloud".

im not a fan of the cloud for my music because i have to have internet connection for them and it really is not an automatic start. but for a hour long podcast, you really should use the cloud to your advantage.

the point im really trying to make is that 16gb for user who does not have these kind of storage eating "hobbys" is fine.

Thank You for helping prove the point. everyone who has a droid 1, including me, has had only 15gb of storage for two years to deal with. i understand that the internal memory will be used by other things which will make it possibly 14gb but still, its enough to be able to deal with.

idk about google but amazon gives 5gb free and has an android music app for streaming using the cloud storage. and if you buy, then it comes with 20+gigs of storage and unlimited music the website gives pregiven #of gigs in different plans but basically its 1$per gig per year.

this is the one i tried, and it was good.

Podcasts aren't things you need to keep on your phone though, you download, listen and delete.

For the average user and even the above average user, space isn't a problem, for the extreme users they'll have to make decisions like using the cloud and whatnot if they wish to carry extreme amounts of music/video/info on their phone.

32GB is more than sufficient and if it isn't, the people who need more are aware of how to do so from their past experiences.

I think the cloud really is the greatest option for you. accessible when you need it. out of your way when you dont. (even though it is terrible advertising, that should be there slogan)

btw 600th post.
