2.1 issues

Upgraded my wife's Eris to 2.1 and the phone turned to poop. I would call and she would answer but we could not hear each other. Phone was super slow, lagging all the time. Did Factory Reset, was better for a bit but then sucked again. Called Tech support and jumped through their hoops. Worked for an hour and then back to suckville. Took it into Verizon, told them my story and phone was swapped out with a refurb, no questions asked. Refurb came with 1.5 on it with a message to upgrade to 2.1. I upgraded to 2.1 without any market apps reloaded. Did 3 factory resets and then loaded all the market apps back on. I set up the phone the way the wife had it and so far so good.

Cliff notes: Phone was a turd to begin with, 2.1 update highlighted this. Now with a replacement life is good. :icon_ banana:

I updated my wife's phone last week, and it has been the week from hell for her. She is having all kinds of issues. Phone locks up consistently, and has been mainly inoperable. Verizon is sending out a replacement. I am wondering if I do the update on it, will I have the same problems. Has anybody had good results with the 2.1 update?

iv had my phone for about 5 months now. i recently got the 2.1 update and it runs just like it use to. i love the turn by turn directions. phone locks up everynow and then due to my massive multitasking skills :-p . only issue i have right now is this stupid weather. couple days after the 2.1 update the weather had a nice effect when you first unlock the screen. now it just doesent work at all. id love to find out how to fix that

I've had no real issues, just minor annoyances. But most of those existed pre-2.1.

Weather issue...

This is the kind of patch that shouldn't have been overlooked by Verizon. I ran across this post this morning from last week, tried it, and my phone is performing MUCH better all of a sudden. The jury's still out on whether or not the lagging issue has stopped, but it makes sense that if the weather widget was hogging resources trying to sync in the background with faulty provider data in the cache, then....

Here's how to fix the weather issue:

Settings/Applications/Manage Applications/Weather Provider/Clear Data

Then go to:

Settings/Accounts & sync/Weather/sync now

fixes it.

UPDATE: My original post is on page 2.

My wife's phone has gotten worse everyday since the update. At first it was only slow, but now the phone is not ringing and phone calls are not connecting. I did a factory reset as was suggested to my original post, and this did seem to speed up the phone, but it did not solve the ringing or call connection issues. She is going to the Verizon store today to get a new phone.

We need more "fixes" . I recently updated to the 2.1 , and like most in this thread have had some issues.
My issues:
1. The connectivity of phone calls, incoming and outgoing. The phone will ring when I am receiving the call but when I answer it I cannot hear anything. This same applies to when I try to call the caller back... phone acts like it is dialing (I think it really is), but i cannot hear anything from the opposite end.
When this happens I have to reboot and then it will start working again.

2. More battery use, even using task killer often.

3. SLOW text pad... this is frustrating since I am a fast typer... I had no issues with the 1.5... Not sure what to do about this and the phone issue.

Does resetting to factory wipe away the 2.1 and restore the 1.5 or does it just debug ?

Your issues identically match what my wife has been experiencing. The description of the phone connectivity is probably the most revealing because it cannot be simply explained by other things. Exactly as you stated, when she tries to make or receive calls, it appears that it is connected, but there is no sound coming through the receiver.

I performed a factory reset yesterday afternoon, and it booted back up with 2.1 installed. IMO it did very little in the way of debugging, which is why my wife is going to the Verizon store to hopefully get a replacement phone. Her phone worked without issue since December but since the update it has been another story.

Interesting to know Lars, thanks.
My roomate is a Verizon Wireless Salesman, and he also thinks it is quite odd. I'm going to contact customer service and see what they tell me to do. Like your wife, my phone worked without issues until the update to the new 2.1.

1 week later and got her new phone. So far so good. Faster than old one, and no problems so far. Will update later if I see any changes.

I have noticed lately that when I go to make a call, the timer starts to count but there isn't actually a ringing noise and doesn't actually complete the call. I just end up shutting the phone off and re-trying the call. It isn't on every call I make but seems to happen every now and then.

3G Problem

I cant seem to be able to get 3G service on my Eris. I live in Bowling Green, KY which is a Verizon dead zone (No VZW Store, this town has nothing to do with Verizon), but my friends who have Eris' all have 3G and my old Chocolate Touch even had 3G. I made the switch to the Droid yesterday, and haven't been able to get any help from Customer Service at all. Any suggestions? :icon_evil:

Thanks

My wife’s Eris was a POS to begin with. Once I downloaded the 2.1 she was having all the same issue mentioned here. I called Verizon several times and they always wanted to troubleshoot it over the phone. The third time I went in the store, the immediately gave us a new phone. I hesitantly downloaded 2.1 again…….. She has hated her phone up until tonight. She had to get from work to my son’s baseball game, a place far from home and she has never been there before. She punched in the address, and it took her straight to the ball field! LOL! Now she loves her phone!!!

Only still issue is her battery life is horrible…. Really bad. But she now keeps a charger at work, home and in the car so she doesn’t mind trading that issue for turn by turn navigation.

so confirming that getting a new phone will make the 2.1 better? Or atleast bearable?
