2.1 Update

Well if the Hero is getting 2.1 it should be fairly logical to think it would be optimized for it since its specs are even lower. So the version for the Droid will more than likely have optimizations as well. I wish Google/Verizon were a little more forthcoming with their update schedules.
 
I was at the verizon store getting my phone repaced I asked if they knew when the next update was coming out and they told me march or april, hopefully they are not right.

I would assume that 2.1 will be optimized for Droid before it's released to us. Just as you stated with Hero... which will probably receive a 'tweaked' version of 2.1 optimized for that device if and when it gets it.

All carriers/manufacturers are pains about releasing update schedules :mad:

TRUTH! I was at one of our local VZW stores, and the rep told me that my screen was buggy because I was running too many apps at once (I was running 5). The "droid specialist" on staff figured out that my screen just needed a cover to keep it from getting grimy.... LOVE the network, hate the peons

So true... I bet if we all volunteered at a verizon store to help it would show how incompetent a lot of their reps are. It is my believe that a lot of the reps are there just because it's their job and they need money, having fun learning about gadgets and trying to help people is the bottom of their list.

Reps are people too that just need to work :) You're right there. And just because they work at a cell phone store doesn't mean they have the same passion/interest some of us do in phones/tech/gadgets and the reasons behind them.

I'll give them SOME credit, as they have more than 1 device to learn, but just throwing out answers to sound knowledgeable to a customer has led to the reputation that reps don't know :)
 
I would put 100.00 on it that 75% of the users here on this forum know more about the droid then the store reps do.... :) Sad but true!

You don't spend much time on the forum do you? LOL I've seen some questions posted then I'm like... How are you even allowed to buy a phone?!

Let's be fair. Your statement is true and I wouldn't be surprised if the percentage was higher then that but we are focused in on the Droid. Verizon has a ton of phones out there so a tech has to be able to know something about all the different phones. That's kind of tough for a rep to be on top of everything, and I imagine to say "in a few months" is an easy way to protect themselves.

As far as a source of information, if this was another forum whose name I won't mention and you said "A Verizon Rep Told Me" you would need an asbestos suit to keep the flames from burning you. People over here are much nicer.
 
True.. its one thing to be a master of one, its quite another to be a master of many.

I have enough trouble with the Droid and all it will or won't do... it would totally get mixed up with all the others..... and for "how" much an hour?..... as much as I love techy stuff.. thats not the job for me!

Its no wonder most only know a surface knowledge and have to figure it out same as us... they just know more common denominators than us... but since the droid breaks the mold in so many areas... that doesn't help them much, other than if they are comfortable with the Android based OS.... even thats changing too fast to keep up with if your having to know all the other ones too.
 
Verizon is actually a really great company to work for. Great room for growth, benefits, retirement, etc. My girlfriend and her father used to work for them. Great company. I'm not biased either, they are a big company that treats there employees well.
