3G Not Working

Finally got it to work. Had to unroot, then do a factory reset. So far so good, but really want to root for data backup. May try again in a day or so.

I am rooted running 1.12.605.9 kernel from here [Kernel]1.12.605.9 kernel with adb root - xda-developers

That may be why my phone is stable on CDMA auto prl.

Edit: Nevermind, just saw the instructions. Thanks for the tip, I will try it out.

Edit 2: After reading the thread, while somewhat comfortable, don't want to go through setting the phone up again and again if it doesn't work. Just gonna stay stock until this phone gets easier to hack.

Well as much as I hate admitting what an idiot I can be....my problem was user error. I didn't have the battery cover on and apparently that's where the antenna is :rofl3:

OK so I really need to post my story about this on here. I am not extremely tech savvy, but I have been an Android user for a very long time.

Yesterday I bought my HTC thunderbolt. The salesman told me that if it was out of 4GLTE range, it would auto switch to 3G. I don't have a problem with that.
Since I bought the phone yesterday I have not been able to connect to 4G or 3G. I called tech support and they said they reset it and to take out the battery and it would be fine. Needless to say it wasn't. I called back and she told me to go to the store, which I did. The salesman told me that where I lived was a 'transition zone' where 4G was not working completely, so the phone was switching between 4G and 3G which was causing problems. So he told me to switch it to EvDo only where I lived and 3G would be fine. Problem is my phone is not picking up 3G or 4G AT ALL. There is nothing wrong with 3G network because I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab which picks up 3G just fine.

I called tech back a 3rd time and he said the phone was too new to pick up either or network. That's BS. I was wondering if anyone here could help me. I get NOTHING where I live which is so strange. Should I get a new phone, reset it, or kick out the Thunderbolt completely? I really like it other than that :(

Thanks so much
L

Grab an app called Phone Info from the market. Go to Phone Information and change it to CDMA auto (PRL), exit, and reboot. If that doesn't work, I'd ask for another SIM card.

Did you do a factory reset?

I did, so far so good. Just 3g for now. Will try to get on 4g at work tomorrow then back on 3g at home! Thanks so much, i will keep you updated. Im kind of afraid to mess with wifi settings :-P

I rooted, lost 3g, had to unroot and do a reset, so far good after about 10 hours. Was in Tampa area for about 20 minutes today with 4g, messed with the phone for a minute, worked great and was super fast. Just turned on my wifi, and turned back off, 3g came right back.

Most of the time taking your battery out then removing the sim then reinstalling them will bring you back up...

I'm on my second TB.. the first one worked fine.. broke the screen.. the replacement i-net stopped working in less than a day.. it now will only pick up 1x in cdma only mode.. cdma prl and lte option won't connect at all.. I saw it unsuccessfully trying to get a 3g connection when I selected cdma prl... do I have bad hardware??
