512 Ram

Sure there's 1gb of ram in there, but only half of that is usable by the phone. The other half is for the Webtop software. So in effect, the Atrix really only has 512mb of ram when in use as a phone.

Is there any documentation to back that up? I read that the Android VM (virtual management) for the webtop used a little under 50% of the ram when docked... but that doesnt necessarily mean that 512 is dedicated to the webtop. I cant seem to find any info on that issue.

While everyone wants more RAM, I can say the Charge I have w/ 512MB RAM works very well. its more of how well the device manages its memory.

Saying that is the same as a guy with a small penis saying "its not the size that counts, its the motion in the ocean" lmao...

come on...

512 is low but if a phone has good memory management it should be sort of ok. I think blur may be causing the memory problems on the x2. Some phones do well at closing and caching processes though. But most phones should have more than 512 if they are going to be loaded with bloat and memory intensive processes like blur and touchwiz. 512 maybe alright on a pure vanilla android phone.

512 MB of RAM should be a problem for the D3 since it's shipping with Gingerbread, which is better than Froyo at managing RAM. It will be even better in terms of RAM management when it gets Ice Cream Sandwich (probably) around Q1 2012.

Gingerbread does have better OS management, but blur is very memory intensive. So hopefully they optimized blur a little better on the D3 than they did on the dx2. Idk how it can ship with Gingerbread, when the are having horrible problems with GB for x and Droid 2.

I think that the problem that was had on Gingerbread on the DX2 was that the Tegra took up too much of the memory. The D3 shouldn't have that problem since it doesn't have Tegra, and I would think that Motorola would learn from their past mistakes.

I thought the Droid 1 had 256?
Either way, 512 in the Droid 3 is a little disappointing.

The original Droid had 256 meg of storage and 256 meg of ram. That's why some people think it had 512 meg of ram. Then add in the 16 GB sdcard.

The Droid 3 has 16 GB of storage and 512 meg of RAM and an empty SD Card slot.

I have the Droid 3 in hand

i got my d3 today and i am very happy to say after only 24 hours...i love it. But time will tell. i put all 100 apps i had on my droid 2 on the droid 3 and with that the d3 runs fast. I did a quadrant test and the d2 scored a 1880. My d2 was rooted and running fisson. d3 stock with all the same apps as the d2 and i scored a 2450. there is no lag on the d3 and just seems much smoother. looks like there is only 512 ram. i amy sitting at 275 used and 97 free!

The 512 is plenty. Don't why so many are worried about this. I was worried, but I've had no issues with the amount of ram installed.
