after the hype

Haha I used to be like you. I wouldn't look at the S4 but the other day I went into Verizon and played with one. I like it a lot. Upgrading in August :D

I think the one comment on this forum that has stuck with me the most is "if you're upgrading from an older phone the S4 will blow your mind," and it does. Even though I'm running Jelly Bean ROMs on a tablet and phone, neither have nearly the hardware the S4 does and it really shows.

You know, many/most/some carriers will let you upgrade a month or two early if you beg/plead/threaten. No reason to wait until August if that's the only reason.

. But you also have to show your team colors and trash-talk the competition. :)

Hahaha that's right. Thank you for adding some humor to this topic. I will show my team colors on this one for sure. These phones just keep doing more its hard to keep up with. I will let you all know soon.

Bionic owner here. Considering upgrading to S4. Here's a question for all of you S4 Owners. Do you have the ability to uninstall all of the bloatware without rooting?

As far as I know no. You have to be rooted. But, rooting the device is easy and then you just use TBU to uninstall the bloat.

Hey, please remember I was teasing -- secretly I have the same concerns as you, I'm just a lot more shy about sharing them. And the iPhone, truthfully if people can't talk about whatever phone they want here then something's wrong. But you also have to show your team colors and trash-talk the competition. ;)

I had started out looking at the S3, and wouldn't let myself even glance at the S4, let alone pick one up and try it. Eventually my will-power broke down and now I'm watching the price on Amazon daily (I forgot that Best Buy aggressively price-matches now too). I'd be all over the S4 if (a) my Droid 3 hadn't suddenly gotten a second wind and started working again, and (b) Verizon hadn't announced that they're selling the HTC One. Right now I'm split between the two phones. What it will come down to is the price of each phone once the One's released, and whether I decide I want the amazing software and camera on the S4 (plus the removable battery and card slot), or the clean metal unibody on the One.

Please keep the forum posted on what you end up doing. :)

After the Rezound, I will never buy another HTC phone again. After the Jellybean update, my daughter's Rezound would reboot itself on a daily basis. And HTC always uses the smallest battery possible, just so they can sell you an extended battery. And still with the extended battery, the battery life is horrible. With the extended battery, my daughter's Rezound would only last her about 6-8 hours before the phone was dead.

I really can't complain about the battery life like other power users. I came from a D4 and I have to plug in twice a day to get me til bedtime. The S4 kicks butt even when I'm playing my word games a lot.

Thought I'd add my newbie 2cents..

I have my S4 for almost a month and love it. This is my first smart phone, and there was a definite learning curve for me, but guess I could have picked a more basic phone too! LOL The screen clarity is incredible, the battery life is good and everything seems super fast. I love the air gesture feature. It's great for doing a quick check of things at work. I'm sure I'll have more good things to say once I figure everything out!

I hear you. My wife's HTC Droid Eris was...well, those were the early days and nothing could compete with the one true Droid. But it was a really unreliable phone.

Same.. Had the thunderbolt... Battery life was awful.

They issued a software update and ruined the phone... It would randomly restart multiple times a day... Really irritating when you are on an important phone call and it restarts.

Had a rezound... Not a bad phone but even with an extended battery... Battery life was terrible.

Never again.

This is my take on the S4, nice phone, great upgrade for someone with a phone two years and older, I had the S4 for 12 days "eventually took it back" , tried to tell myself that it is great and I need to keep it, but at the end of the day, it is marginally better than my S3, which is rooted and unlocked and runs like butter with CM or AOKP ROM.
Yes the S4 has a nice screen and is a bit faster than the S3, but it's not much of a difference from the S3, the S3 is still a fantastic phone and does everything I throw at it with ease. Now later this year when the new batch of phones come out with the Qualcomm 800 chip with better and more future proof radios is when I MIGHT upgrade, the Note 3 is what I might be looking at.

I upgraded from the s3 which was very solid. But I have to say I like the s4 a lot. I definitely like it better. Super fast (after I removed the bloatware) beautiful screen., excellent battery. Great phone

How do you get rid of bloatware?

I replied in this thread once already but after a little more time with the phone I'm starting to second guess it. I've noticed this phone drops 4g so much and doesn't seem to have the reception my resound had. It is becoming a real nucience. Is it just me or is anyone else experiencing this. Maybe I need to go to Verizon about this.

I love them! I have a white "work" phone, that I can't do much. Ill have two new S4's here Tuesday that I can do anything I would like with. I can't wait to root it, load it with a new rom, etc.
