All around fail. X2 Q&A

I really wonder why it's the enthusiasts that find the ways to fix the SD lag but the testers don't notice it before the phones are released... way to instill confidence in the quality of your products...-.-

Or maybe the testers caught it and the bean counters didn't want to spend the extra $5 a card for a Class 6 or higher card.

I'm running a Transcend 8GB Class 6 card and have zero issues.

^^Exactly. At this point it's so obviously an issue with the SD card. I'm probably never going to buy Motorola again unless they release some revolutionary device...

...the the most revolutionary thing about it would probably be it's a Motorola device that works really well right off the bat. I'm going to update the OP soon with other questions I've come across. Keep up the feedback guys!

When you say it's an issue with the SD card, you mean it's an issue specifically with how the X2 deals with the SD card, right?

I ranted in the tech support forum about my music issues, so I won't repeat it here, but suffice it to say that my original D1 16GB Class 2 card has worked fine in in my original D1 and both of the DXs. It was only on both of my DX2s that it exhibited these problems. Since I still have a D1 and a DX, I did side-by-side compares and can tell you the same song files play with zero issues on the old phones.

I swapped it out for the 8GB Class 4 that came with the phone, but since I haven't been able to spend a couple of solid hours listening to music on it since the swap, I don't know if this is a solution yet.

The only screen issue I have noticed so far is with Angry Birds... the black bomb bird leaves a sliver of red as it flies thru the air. Otherwise, I love love LOVE the new screen.

Correct, I've done the same tests. The 8gb class 2 card I tried worked in my Eris for almost 2 years and has problems on both of the X2s I've had. Though the cracking and popping only happens when multitasking, not just listening.

I made notice of something today that might be of interest. Occasionally when listening through my FM transmitter, instead of cracking and popping, the phone just stops playing. But it seems to be less likely to happen when I play the music through the app instead of the widget I had. Is this the case with you? Or anyone else for that matter?

Have you guys tried upgrading your cards? Or putting the ones that came with it back in?

My X2 came with a class 4 card. maybe thats where your running into trouble by running your old cards in the new phone

I've tried both class 2 and 4 cards and it seems the same. Are you not experiencing these problems at all? Have you tried multitasking while listening for a few minutes?

I'm not experiencing any of these issues. But I threw my class 6 card in from the get go. So I can't speak for the speed of the class 4 cards

Alright, for me the Class 4 card seems to have solved the issue with hesitation and stutter. As you noted, I too experienced the issues when multi-tasking. Changing screens, browsing files, items showing up in the notification bar, basically anything else at all would cause my media on the Class 2 card to stutter.

I sit at my desk most of the day with my headphones on, listening to music for hours at a time during a typical work day. Today was no exception, and after listening for a few hours, I decided to really put the DX2 thru the paces while listening to music. I did every multi-tasking thing I could think of while listening to an album, and the phone now passes muster.

One other problem I had that I detailed elsewhere (but not in this thread) was an issue where after a few hours of solid music use, I would run into a song that would randomly stop itself and then start the song over. This same song would continue to do this for as long as the song was played. it never finished although for the entire time the music player was showing the progress bar advancing as though nothing was wrong. It was very weird. So far, no hint of this problem with the Class 4 card (finger's crossed).

Full disclaimer, I have also now used Gingerbreak and did all the perf mods (supercharger script, etc). That may be helping with the memory utilization aspect. If I recall correctly, I still had problems with music on the Class 2 card after taking those steps, so I am comfortable in isolating the problem to how DX2 handles the Class 2 card in my instance.

So, for those of you like me who upgraded from the orig droid and have all your media on a larger Class 2 card, figure in the cost of a new, faster card into your purchasing decision (or plan on getting you collection down to under 8GB). There are up to Class 10 cards available now. I think I'll pick one up when I have a few extra bucks.

While I am sure there is a technical reason as to why this is happening, one would think that a new phone with better specs and a faster, bigger processor would handle this type of thing with ease. I would venture to say that most folks upgrading from one phone to another are going to want to simply swap in the old card and be done with it.

I have a 32gb card that works great on the DX1, Incredible, gTablet and A500 with ZERO audio pop issues (unless heavy multitasking). Regardless of if an MP3 is in the internal or micro sd or class level (I tried a class 6 16gb too, but prefer higher capacity), the DX2 pops and clicks playing MP3s and gets real bad when multi-tasking. Even VZW employees admit the issue.

The lag issues appears to correlate with low operational memory and the random reboots... not sure why that happens, but I had it when playing Flash videos, browsing and twice when downloading apps from the market.

Since I am not the only person that had these problems, it seems the issues are real, at some level or another.

Definitely real. At least you got them to admit it was an issue, like I said everyone kept telling me it was the first they've heard of any issues with the X2. I'm like yeah, spend 2 minutes and go check forums instead of just standing around in your suit lying to my face.

So basically, the only way it seems to get a decently functioning DX2 is to root and install the SuperCharger script?

Basically yeah. Media issues aside, after doing that it's easily one of the best phones I've ever had (not saying much, last one was an Eris). But I don't like the fact I have to do that and I REALLY don't like the fact the music player kinda sucks. It just stops playing every 5-45 minutes when plugged into my FM transmitter in my car. I know it's the phone cause the transmitter still works with my Eris. I also don't understand how it's worse at times than others when literally almost nothing has changed.
