all messages being deleted

I was just wondering if anyone else was having this problem and if there is a way to keep it from happening or to get your text messages back. Today I just tried to go to my messages and all of my text messages were gone. My brother had this problem just a couple of weeks ago. I use Handcent SMS, and brother used SMS unread count. I'm just wondering if anyone knows if it is a problem with the apps or the messaging service or we just got a bad Droid or something.

It happened twice for me for handcent. But a s*it load of times on regular messaging. Hasn't happened for a while though. However, it seems to be other apps that may cause the handcent to crash or even the fact that you have bad to no service when receiving or sending a message.

I don't know if the updates fixed it or what but it's probably the applications and not the phone it self.

EDIT: I may have read your post wrong...Are you saying the messages just disappear when you go into handcent? Or the handcent crashes and you lose your messages?

If your handcent crashes and your messages got deleted...well you can't get them back. As for them just disappearing...I think it is a glitch and you can't get them back either.

Yes, I have this issue as well, unfortunately I have been battling this problem since I got the phone luckly it only happens once every couple weeks. Only thing I hate is it removes the Locked Messages too.

Happened to me as well, about a week ago... I was pretty pissed because I had quite a few important text message threads disappear!

With all the crap text messages that my kids send, I would consider this a feature!

But I know some keep important information in text instead of a notes app or email....

There are a few other threads on this, but no solution has been found IIRC.

I hate havign to go back to the native messaging, but the crashing and deleting of texts and locked messages is NOT a good look

I saw that there was a problem with the Droid deleting SMS messages. Ive had this problem several times on 2 different Droids. Ive used the Messaging app included with the phone and 3rd party apps and it will still occassionally delete all of my threads. Any suggestions? this is probably the most annoying thing ever and is making me want to wait for the HTC Passion

I got a text message last night and said "ill just read it in the morning". Then I woke up to find all my messages missing. I use handcent, and they just disappeared, no force closes or errors.

This happened to me and I am using the preinstalled messaging app. There is an option under settings for the number of texts that the phone will hold per conversation. I bumped mine up to 999, which is the max. I think once it reaches this point they all delete. Maybe I am wrong.

so this problem occurs with the native messaging app as well? that sucks, I'm looking at getting this phone but texting is a big thing for me... if it holds a certain number of texts, it shouldnt just delete them all when that number is reached.. I would think it should start deleting the old ones one by one..

i tried upping the messaging program that came with it to 3999 per conversation. (can't get it to go to 4000). then i told it to delete messages when it got that high. maybe that will fix it?

coudl it possibly be its just a bug when you don't have the delete box checked? because i did notice that even if you use handcent or something else, the messages still show up in the stock messaging app

:icon_evil: Just happened to me tonight! First time it has happened, had the phone for months. I was in Mid argument with my girlfriend, i needed the thread for proof! GRRR! I had my max set to 5000 it was the highest it would allow. I was using the stock msg app and no where NEAR 5000 probly close to 800 total, several hunderd today/night with just that one contact. Somethings got to give! I wonder if there is a way to auto backup msgs to sd? Any idea guys?

Wow does that suck. It just happened to me and I searched to forum to see if it happening to anyone else and found this thread.

I've had the phone since 11-6-09 and this is the first such event. I use the standard ap in the phone. I tried handcent at one point in order to solve a different problem but, it had some critical flaw so, I uninstalled it.

It is truly ridiculous that I have to worry about losing all of my text messages at any given time.

WTF?! The bloom is off the rose with this phone. It has the potential to be great but, this kind of stuff is totally unacceptable.
