Android is losing

I agree that iTunes is now an epic fail. I purposely bought a non-apple mp3 player simply because iTunes was downright stupid. That being said I've seen some good things from them. I used to work for Geek Squad and I saw more broken iPhones than anything. I personally hate the screen and the fact that iPhones aren't as PC compatible. If you're a Mac junkie though, go for it.

How is iTunes a fail? I've been using it for years. I have 10 days worth of music stored on my Mac and iTunes does a great job of managing them. Now I use it to back up and update my iPad.

You just say things like "epiic fail" but you don't give a single reason why. you just hate to hate because that's what all the "cool" android kids do.

I recommend people go back and read Hook's post on here two or three times. Then go back and read it again. It so completely sums up my feelings on the Apple situation as well and the way the users tend to be treated by Android users. Are there some hyped up iPhone and Apple users? Yup, but I will say that I haven't seen anywhere near the animosity while modding the iPhone and iPad forums towards Android as vice versa.

Just something to think about. And for every one of you that comes back with an "I know an Apple fanboi" I will easily point out three "Android fanbois".

how on earth does an iPhone beat out Android it's 'hack-a-bility'?

There are a lot of things the iPhone does right and takes the cake, but that is certainly not one of them.

Well, you can go to to the JailbreakeMe website with your iPhone and it done.

I have an iPod and use iTunes, but sometimes I use the Anapod software. It makes your iPod act like a removable hard drive and bypasses iTunes.

that doesn't answer my question, being able to 'one click' install doesn't make it more hackable... you can't come close to customizing an iphone like you can android.

Z4root works amazingly on most phones and its 1 click root so its just as easy as going to that site. Also, i would NEVER trust a website with doing something like that. Do you know how easy it is to input malicious code on a website?

Theres other ways to put music on your ipod than itunes however most of them only work in linux or are worse than itunes is.

I love my droid but when it comes to mp3 players I only use apple. They are, in my opinion, some of the best mp3 players currently on the market. They're not too bad on price (yes theyre a little higher but you also pay for the apple logo.... its like anything else, your paying for the name as well as the product), they're very easy to use, and are very well written from a code perspective. I've never had any problems with them freezing or anything like that. They have semi-decent support (better than Creative in my experiences). Just because i like Apple doesnt mean i'm an "Apple fanboi" just like me liking droids doesnt make me a "Droid fanboi".

Just my two cents....

People,

I am not an apple fan, nor do I dislike it. I think it is a great platform for a certain population who like that type of system. I like the Android system, but I can admire the iPhone for the engineering that goes into it, and have to agree with Hookbill on this. I personally do not like being constrained like the iPhone does (without the jailbreaking), and perfer the Android phones. Just my opinion. I also like certain foods that other people do not. Shouild I make fun of people for not eating the same foods as me? Of course not. If you prefer the android, that's fine. If you perfer the iPhone, that's also fine.

My personal opinion is that Apple is a company that is too constrained. They almost dies with PCs for keeping things so locked up. Until the iPhone/iTunes/iPad. Now that there is competition, I worry about their health as a company. Meanwhile android is increasing market shares and doing well. This is just my opinion and I will listen to other opinions and consider them.

I never use flash anyway lol & I can't use itunes.... no windows computer, so jailbreak and ssh is my only real option.

Once its confermed that the ipad 2 is jailbreakable I'm buying it,
IMO cydia tops everything that android has..

By "hack-ability" I ment that the device can be heavily customized without ever booting into recovery or anything like that...
If one wanted to have a pull down status bar all he/she would have to do is download SBsettings, if someone wanted restricted library files all he would have to do is download it from cydia.
the fact that the iphone/ipad has dpkg makes it supiror.

Oh and thank you hookbill, you're 100% right.

I think Z4root has a better chance stealing your data / inserting malicious code.

Jailbreakme used a pdf exploit.

Z4root used some type of buffer overflow or something like that... but z4root had real access to everything & to prove it there have been apps that have had the rageagainstthecage exploit in them and people were stealing info.. I used to hate apples hardcore restrictions on the app store but now I see why they have done this.

So far most of the remarks have stayed very mature, well thought out and informative. Let's keep this going. Thank y'all so much for doing a great job on this.

yes this has actually been productive, as jeff obviously knows his stuff and isn't just spouting off fanboy hate ;)

Jailbreaking and rooting do the same thing, they give you access to the core files of your device. Z4root just gives you root. I meant the fact that its just soooo much easier to hack a site and insert malicious code into it to brick your device rather than get the code into an app. I think there should have been a red flag when the same app was posted again by a different developer.

And yea, good job on a apple vs google debate actually being civil.

I'm not gonna say that iTunes is an epic fail but i am gonna say i don't like it at all. If you buy an ipod or a iphone you have no choice in the matter of using iTunes. Its either use iTunes or dont interface your device with your PC. I think this act in itself is an evil thing to do. Its the fact of control that im so obsessed about. What business is it of apple to Force me into a program that i don't want to use. It really feels like like apple is trying to step into MY bubble. They should offer iTunes but not require it. My computer is fine without another program on it...And every time i look at iTunes i think "The Man" is literally trying to get one over on me. I am going to make a car tomorrow and when someone buys it i'm going to make them only refuel at an ilikemoneygreen gas station. Why? Because i can. Simple as that right? Same thing for flash. Why doesn't iOS have flash? IMO and this is strictly IMO i think Steve Jobs doesn't want flash because it would be a way for Devs to side step the App Store system. They could make their games via flash and not even worry about the app store. Thus, Steve Jobs the complete control freak wont allow flash. I as a user dont like to be controlled...i like having the control over my device. I like to control how i put my stuff on my device and all that jazz. And i truly am not trying to be disrespectful as you say in response to the evil posts, I am describing the actions. I see Apple taking control away from me and all the control to them as an evil action. Basically, i will never own an iPod because of it. I find them well built but i am not supporting a company who controls everything and their mother. Just my IMO but i think their are many nerds like me in the same boat. :beer2:
