Any apps that are known battery killers?

Download and use Taskiller and make certain maps, gps wifi all are off. Sometime Bluetooth activates itself. Charge it 100% before turning it off (not sleep) at night. After startup in the morning check battery level. If its below 100 %, there is a leakage of some sort, probably the phone, not the battery. Exchange the phone. To double check, charge the battery to 100 % at night, and take the battery out of the phone. Reinsert in the AM and see if the battery is still at 100%. If,not it's a battery problem. Good luck.

I was surprised at how bright the minimum brightness was as well. I could easily see the screen in a completely dark room. I downloaded some apps to adjust brightness and turn off things like BT, GPS, WiFi, and 3g. I should see some good numbers.

I guess I feel like I shouldn't have to disable every feautre of my phone to get even average battery life. Otherwise what's the point? Might as well just buy a Star-tac if you need any of these features. When I go back to work I'll need all the features back on and I don't anticipate it lasting more than a couple hours with this use which probably work for me which is frustrating because I really like the phone otherwise.

Jer you may not like what I'm going to tell you but I would uninstall weatherbug. It is causing a lot of issues with battery drain and lag.

Not that you are getting lag but the system is being taxed at 15%. That's unusually high still. I would recommend an uninstall and test run.

Just a suggestion to help you troubleshoot.

It's not always convenient to charge the phone fully at night before I go to bed and usually when I finally lay down to sleep is the only chance I get. Believe me when I say I would love nothing more than to set the alarm, plug it in and turn it off at night. I've done this with every phone I've ever owned and am not happy that it's not possible with this phone.

How so? It only shows 2% so how do you come to 15%?

I'm not married to WeatherBug but it's the only app I can find that puts the weather in the notification bar. I don't need a lot of fancy widgets nor do I want to pay for them. I just need a current temp on the home screen somehow and this seemed like the best method. I like the Eris weather/date/time widget but don't feel like paying for it on a phone that cost more, is more advanced and should have just included it.

Twidroid is a huge battery drainer, trust me on that. I dont know about Yahoo Mail, I use that as well. I hear Bluetooth drains it too.

i have used Twidroid since I got my phone and have never had issues with it being a huge battery hog.

I have my phone charge over night so it's at 100% for the new day, and use it all day.
Check emails, Twidroid, texting, using the market place, browsing some places online and occasionally making phone calls.

The worst it has ever been for me by time to go to bed again was down to 30%.

I've read Weatherbug is an energy hog. At some point before your 30 day return policy lapses, you need to get a baseline on your battery. If there is internal voltage leakage you won't discover it by constant use. Charge it,shut it off for 8 hours and check the charge level. It should not change

.

Android Core Apps 16% (15%)
Android System 16% (15%)
91PandaHome 9% (8%) (other times it was more like 5-6%)
Market 5% (5%)
Google 4% (3%)
Cell Standby 3% (3%)
Android OS 3% (3%)
Phone Idle 2% (2%)
Weather Bug 2% (2%)

You posted the figure is how I got that %

If you are not married to Weatherbug uninstall it and you should see a performance increase.

It's your call I'm just offering suggestions based on a lot of peoples experience with Weatherbug. It's caused a lot of different issues. Take it for what it's worth...

good luck

That's good advice and I'll make it a point to test this out over the next couple of days.

That's what I don't understand because the numbers I posted says that WeatherBug is only at 2% not 15% unless I'm missing something.

Also, after the changes I listed in a previous post I started fresh today and got 6hr 20min before the charge drolpped to below 5% this is quite a bit longer yet still not acceptable considering what functionality I had to disable to arrive to this. Also of interest is the fact that the display and calls combined for 85% of the total usage so it's safe to say that apps aren't doing too much damage at this point. I suspect a bad battery (possibly power leak via phone as previously discussed) and talking w/Verizon on the phone earlier they agreed and suggested I take the battery to Verizon to exchange it under warranty.

Really? How often do you receive Notifications? Mine was once every hour, then I moved it to three hours, thats when it killed my battery. That and surfing the web, once I had to charge the phone twice in one day. But now I have it on no Notifications and its just fine.

As for my charging I charge it sometimes before its even half gone. Now I tend to leave it charging when I find a good wallpaper. First I sync it to my computer, then I put the wallpaper on the Droid and leave it charging. I just recently started doing that, no idea if its bad for the battery or not.

And for my weather I stick with The Weather Channel. WeatherBug messed up my computer years ago, the program has since begun to leave a bad taste in my mouth.

What they were trying to show you and you missed is that while Weatherbug... the executable was using "only 2%", it is a likely culprit as to why your *system usage* is jumped up to 15% (granted it is a hypothesis, but one based on what other people have seen from WeatherBug, not only on the Droid, but other Android devices).

In simple terms, while the weatherbug executable (the 2%) is doing little, it is issuing commands to the system (web lookups most likely) which is causing the system usage to jump and to (potentially) lead to your battery draining issues.

Is it DEFINITELY the culprit? There is a possibility that it isn't the problem (or isn't the only problem), but it is one that is easy to rule out. Uninstall it and see what happens... if it isn't the problem, you can reinstall it easy enough, but it is one that is worth checking out because your battery life certainly is not "normal" or average for this device.

Battery killing apps

I agree the biggest offender is probably poor cell phone coverage.

Quite a few of the apps look to continually update and sometimes actually turn

the screen on.

The goal is to turn off ones wifi, gps, bluetooth manually when not in use.

Several people report that Taskiller and Adv Task Killer really suck up the

battery. I use Adv Task Manager and am pleased with it.

Cell reception is a big battery drain when it's 'searching' for a signal.

Def disable wi-fi, gps, bluetooth if you don't need it as these will eat your battery too.

Hey guys, the WeatherBug app should be pretty well tuned to be nice to your battery out of the box.

2% battery usage is what we see when testing against the default hourly update interval and our Follow Me mode turned it. With Follow Me off, it really drops off the usage chart if you never open the app.

About the theory for system battery usage being caused by apps, this is possible. If you don't properly release a wake lock or leave your service running after you are done updating, the phone won't sleep. Our app is pretty tidy about it's background updates.

Anyhow, if anybody is still seeing issues, mail us at:
weatherbug.android@gmail.com

Thanks!
Alex
