app backup with market relinking

Hi magnus,

1) because the zero-click restore is only in the Donate version :-)

2) they probably are, but sometimes it takes a couple hours for them to appear in the Market. Try clearing the market cache and killing it, then restart it and see if your apps appear..

I will probably add a "clear market cache" feature later on.

Thanks !

Ah makes sense......though in this case,....I waited overnight, and they still have not appeared.
I'll try the market cache clear technique and report back

In the newest Pro version it has a batch option to verify your backups. I ran this and had many (100s) of errors. I moved everything out of the /sdcard/TitaniumBackup dir to my pc, redid a batch backup of everything then ran the verify options and out of 120 app elements I had 170 errors. The log shows Error with DATA backup and Error with APP backup. What's up with that? When I open the archives on my pc I see no errors when I do an extraction and the data is readable. This shakes my confidence in my backups. I have yet to actually need to use it to restore anything. Surely this is not normal...

Keramidas.....do you mention anywhere what data exactly is backed up in system data.

I was having some problems with a ROM and decided to restore to another ROM.

Now I want to restore all my apps and backups using titanium backup but I'm not sure if I restore system data the problems will come back.

Is this likely? What would you recommend?

Thanks

BTW: My market links were restored but for some reason it took more than 10 hours. Oh well.....

It restores the apps data in /data/data in the apps directory there along with the installer itself (the .apk). Browse /sdcard/TitaniumBackup and see for yourself, you can open the archives to see what is in them and you can open the .properties files with a text editor.

Hopefully that isn't to confusing...

I was asking about system data that is backed up....not app data. Do you know what is included in system data?

I only see app data in my back up

I have two android phone with Titanium Backup. One works fine and backs up all apps. The other phone only shows the apps that have been downloaded/added. Any help would be appreciated. Have erased and reloaded multiple times, checked filter settings.......
I am lost as to what to do.

Hi Magnus,

Sorry I didn't see your question before, because (for some reason) I didn't get notified...

Anyway - since you're having an unknown problem and don't have a logcat of it, my recommendation is to only restore the system data that you really need. This means most of the "green" items, except perhaps the system settings - that contains no real data and can be adjusted again, after all.

You have the Donate version - so if you want to restore more system items than that, you should increase your "backup history" and make a new backup of each "working but empty" system item in your new ROM. Then you will have 2 backups per system item. Now restore the OLDER backup for each system item, one by one. When you find the item that causes you trouble, you can simply restore the NEWER version of it (choosing the correct backup in the list) so that it will be empty but correct. I hope this makes enough sense to you :)

PS: don't forget that most system items will require a reboot (after restore) to be taken into account by the phone. So you may want to restore, maybe 3 items at once.

Thanks

Some of the system items are standard, and others are dependent on your ROM. The ones that are most useful to backup, should be displayed in green color. I also added a prefix (such as: [SMS/MMS/APN]) to some of them, to make their content clearer.

I know this is not perfect or very user-friendly yet, especially for some items. You can use the "Explore" tab and click on the system item you want to look at. Titanium Backup will show you the file names and database names + table names that are inside that data item, hopefully helping you to understand what it is. The system items often contain several things at once, such as SMS+MMS+APN or CONTACTS+CALL HISTORY.

I'm doing my best to label these system items - but it's not very easy, because system apps can also be added by the manufacturer of your phone. In any case, when you find interesting items, you are welcome to notify me about it - and I will surely add those labels for the next version :-)

Thanks

Hi,

I'm very interested about this. Do you mean that only the apps that have been downloaded/added are showing in Titanium Backup ? Or that some apps are missing from "My Downloads" in the Market ?

If you have apps that have never been linked to the Market, Titanium Backup *cannot* (yet) restore these links. You need to download them from the Market once, *then* backup them. And then you can restore the market links as long as you keep the backups around - and as long as the backed up app versions match the app versions that you want to link.

Thanks

Hey Joel!! I <3 Titanium Backup so much, so Glad I got the donate version. I was wondering if you ever thought of making a automatic scheduled backup feature?

Hi,

Thanks for the great encouragement :)
Yes, it will probably be done in the near future. See the "new features" poll there...

Only the apps that have been downloaded/added are showing in Titanium Backup. There are no system files or system data that is recognized. One phone shows 144 data items and the other shows 27 data items.

This is crazy. Did you update busybox on that 2nd phone ? The easier way is the "Problems?" button, but you can also do it manually - see the Titanium Backup web page.

Thanks !

I have updated the busybox on both. (The update button does not work on either phone) I did both manually.
On phone that sees all system, I did backup. When I restored, (new rom) it got to 26% and froze. Once it stopped, it then told me I did not have root access. I reload busybox and it does same thing. So I removed a couple items that seemed to be problem (Shazam) and it made it thru restore. Everything seems great except I cannot change wallpaper. Setting force closes when I try. (this is wifes phone, and she wants her wallpapers
icon7.gif
) Everytime it stops, I have to reload busybox. Is this normal?
Also, I cannot use the busybox from the Titanium Backup web page. Neither winrar, 7zip or winzip will open. All say invalid archive. Any ideas?
