Back to Stock Home Screen - anyone else?

I use a normal folder for my quickdial contacts,

i used to do that same thing then i found the app called acontacts. you can set the default folder to be your favs and it has a grid of their pics. it has a grid of a-z on another tab so you dont have to scroll thru ALL of yur contacts to find one. it also has a tab for call log. check it out! i love it:D

Thanks for the info about acontacts. I just looked it up in the market and said it's not fully compatible with the Droid. Read a bunch of comments and people also complain it's slow. Looks promising when it gets Droid support.

I guess that I have the stock home screen since I havent downloaded anything yet. I just wanted to know how to tell if I have a stock home screen or home ++ or whatever. Thanks

Why is it that so many people on this forum want to lie to themselves to justify their purchases/decisions? I bought GDE because I read that it wasn't too bad with lag/FC but it is terrible. I love how it looks/functions, but come on!! It is not a fun experience after awhile. Sometimes I'll hit the home button to sit at a black screen for up to 10 seconds! Occasional lagging between screens, apps will occasionally disappear from the drawer, the drawer sometimes lags...it gets old after a couple times.

Home++ wasn't nearly as laggy but it still slowed the phone down enough for me to notice. I really hope these issues can be addressed by the devs so I can continue using one of these skinning programs.

Perhaps the answer to your question is that "many people" haven't had the same experience that you report. Lags are nearly non-existent and I haven't had a single FC over a month or so of using GDE. Hitting the home screen button never fails to execute instantly. No disappearing apps and no lags there either. And I have all seven available screens filled with apps and widgets.

On the other hand, if I had experienced what you claim the first conclusion I would reach is not that "so many people are lying to themselves," but that there is something seriously wrong with the implementation on my individual system.

And for the record, I have no connection at all with the developer. I don't even know offhand who the developer is. Just very satisfied with a stable, highly functional app.

If you read this thread then you'll notice that I'm not the only one. But there are plenty of people who don't give a 100% neutral review of something because they bought it.

+++++ right on.

I agree with jsh1120, I've been using GDE for more than a month with no FC's, no black screens, etc. I'm also very satisfied with it so I guess I'm among the "many people" that is lying to myself to justify my purchase. Oh, and by the way, I normally don't have to lie to myself to justify spending a couple of dollars.

There are many things that affect the user experience. Other apps installed, how you use it, how much customization you put into it, how large the wallpaper file you use is... and so on. Also, what is an "acceptable" amount of lag varies from person to person.

It is funny how people get so accusational (they are "lying") rather than wondering why their view or experience is different. If thounsands of people are happily using an app, and your experience is different, why would you assume it is *all of them* that has a *problem* and not you?

I realize many people here are probably too young to remember back to the earlier days of PCs, but particularly in the early days of a new platform, incompatibilities between apps is a real potential issue, particularly with a platform as open as Android where apps need to learn to play nice.

Stock everything

I've only downloaded a couple things - period. I've got a 'wallpaper' up front. Moved the stuff I don't use to the right side screen (or deleted the link). Left side screen is empty. I've got the 'flip clock', the AK Notepad, and the ATK. Period. I did upgrade the Google Maps, but I'm not sure what that did. And, I'm not convinced I even need the ATK!

I originally downloaded a Blackjack game for my trip to Florida, but I eventually dumped that because the dealer somehow managed to always deal himself 20...

So, my Droid is pretty much stock - and it works perfectly. No crashes, no necessary re-boots, and no dying battery. Uh, am I missing the point of the phone? Ha.:)

I'm personally using GDE for the cube i lessen my screens to 4 I really don't need more than 3 but I figured ill add one more lol I had a couple force closes but random and its not like on winmo where u have to reboot the phone or take the battery out or something. Its livable for the cube lol

Well, you might be :D

Speaking for myself, once you "step up" from something that makes and receives calls, it's all about what else it can do and how well it can do it. The base functionality of the phone is pretty impressive but, at least for me, it's the add-ons that really make it special. I don't have a zillion apps (perhaps 20-25) but I use all the ones that are on the phone.
