battery consumption on galaxy nexus

How do you stop apps that have several wake locks. My Google maps has high wake locks and my battery has gotten worse recently.

I tried force stopping the app, pulling the battery.

How many are we talking here?

And what % is maps using up?

It uses six percent of my battery when I haven't even opened it.

Phone, messaging, and a few other apps sometimes have high wake locks (maps had over 1000 a few times and I never opened it).

Six percent it totally fine. Is your phone entering deep sleep?

Without use at all? 6% of my total battery.

I'm not sure how do I check that

Maps is connected to a lot of things on your phone. Anytime an app polls you're gps, Maps will count that under its usage. 6% is pretty good.

See my post above regarding deep sleep.

albo,

Any of the above apps that benson recommended will show you "deep sleep" time. 6% is fairly good, that's pretty average for a ROM especially on aokp. How long do you let it sit before checking? Usually in an hour, when I was running aokp 33, I was losing about 4-6% battery life every hour or a little longer, I forget now. I've since switched to a JB ROM and my battery life is excellent, I'm amazed at it really. I think JB helps and the kernel that I'm using makes it even better.

I have no rom my phone is stock.

Whenever I do a factory reset my phone becomes blazing fast and the battery becomes amazing. With time everything starts becoming slower and the batter begins to go faster.

Well if it's stock then your battery life is perfectly normal. 4.0.4 should've fixed the deep sleep issue. How long do you leave your phone idle before checking it again?

Depends on use. Sometimes it can go an hour idle. Then I use it a lot more.

Also I don't really notice a big difference in battery life if I leave 3g on as opposed to 4g.

So in that hour do you lose 6%? If so, it's pretty normal for a stock Nexus, I recall mine being 6-8%, but that was on 4.0.2.

Check your keep awake time (Settings --> Batt --> Android OS). Mine has been off charger for about 2hrs and I've lost 4% with about 3 restarts (modding some stuff) and the keep awake is 4min. Keep in mind that I am on a ROM.

As for 3g vs 4g, in idle I personally never noticed too much of a difference. It really depends on what you have running in the background and sync intervals. The 2 things that really do kill the battery are screen time and LTE. Since background sync only uses LTE it'll use alot less battery than normal, but if you want to push your battery, switching to 3g will definitely help. It really depends on your area too, if you got a strong 4g signal then there's no point to switching to 3g imo.

Since 4.0.4 fixed the keep awake issues and some other things to improve battery life I think your biggest culprits are; background syncs, refresh intervals, and the frequency of when you check your phone. IF you're that concerned about notifications I recommend the app LightFlow, though I'm not sure if it works on stock Nexus.

I'm starting to think the only way to get decent battery life is by rooting and romming. My battery life is terrible on this phone.

Well the nexus does have a massive screen and a dual core processor, its kinda expected to drain the battery quicker than other phones.
Do you have the extended battery?

Yeah stock battery life is quite mediocre. You can only do so much to improve stock battery life.

If you want to keep the stock experience, you can go to a ROM such as Android Revolution. I'm not sure if the dev has updated, but I ran it in the past and battery was much improved over stock, but had the same feel as stock.
