Battery life is terrible

If you return it within 30 days for a defect, that's considered DOA which will get you a new one! See how it is tomorrow (batteries are usually good to go after 3 days though lithium ion batteries are said not to "learn" but Idk).

Yeah I know, but they told me there would be a $35 restocking fee (idk if that was referring to if i completely change my phone or if I even ask for another). I'm guessing there would be no fee because I'm not changing the phone, just having it replaced.

I already sent in my rebate so I'm not looking at another phone, I like this phone anyway. I still have about a month left, so if it's not good by a couple of weeks, I'll call and replace it. The store always hassles me and tells me they need to replicate the defect. Thanks a lot for the help.

That's a restocking fee and doesn't apply in DOA or warranty situations, just returns. We do have to replicate issues before we can replace anything so they're not just giving you a hard time. If you have time tomorrow, charge your phone up completely and then dial #2539 (battery test) and watch the battery drain. If it drains too fast for the time on the call, there's you proof...they will do the same test and get the same results.

Didn't know you worked with VZW? Great! thanks a lot. Yeah, i'm going to charge it completely overnight and I'll try it a couple hours after I unplug. thanks!

Ok Juice Defender is the best battery saving app that is free and has improved my D1 to 14 hours of heavy use, with brightness set low of course. Also if u want the payed for bersion go to blackdroid.net where they have free payed apps haha

Discussion of app piracy is a big no no at droid forums

Just wanted to chime back in here now that I've had the phone for a few more days...I was *****ing the first day I had it because the battery life was worse than anything I've ever seen...but after having it for the weekend and adjusting a few things I can say that the battery life has improved dramatically.

Having the settings right is key as has been posted a few times in this thread -- a lot of the usual suspects. Killing off the bloatware which runs all the time made a difference and I know a lot of people here hate ATK but if used correctly it can make a big difference -- it did for me -- I've seen dramatic improvement the past couple of days and am really pleased with this phone so far.

Curious to see if people are underclocking the phone and if so what affect it is having on battery life -- I might give it a try eventually but right now I'm able to use the phone pretty heavily over the course of the day and not have to worry about charging it until I plug it in when I go to sleep.

We don't "hate ATK", Google is who said it isn't needed. Personally, I use it ONLY to close frozen apps and nothing more. Its when its set to "auto kill" that it causes problems.

I've had this phone for a couple days now and I have to say the battery is pretty bad. I'm coming froma HTC Touch Pro 2 running stock and it was always a struggle to keep it charged. This phone doesn't seem any better. I'm only running a couple widgets. 1 gmail account, 1 hotmail account configured.
With moderate use I only seem to be getting 1/2 a day. I just uninstalled SETCPU. I'm going to charge it up, put it in flight mode and see how it does. My old phone could run about 2-3 days in flight mode. I was hoping this phone would be better. My understanding was that the Droid X and Droid 2 had the best run time of all Android phones. I was hoping this would be at least as good.
I know this is kind of apples to oranges, but my wife's iPhone runs very comfortably the entire day with wifi and bluetooth on with minimal use. My friend's Blackberry Bold does the same. I guess Apple and RIM have a big
advantage in this area since they control the hardware and software.

Control of hardware and/or software would have nothing to do with it. You're comparing "minimal use" to "moderate use"? The Bold has battery life like that largely because of the tiny screen the phone has to light up as opposed to a 3.7" touch screen. I've owned 3 iPhones and saw no better battery life on them compared to my Droid. I'm even overclocked to 1.0GHz and easily get 8-10 hours with HEAVY usage.

How on earth do you get 8-10 hours overclocked on heavy usage? Is that really possible!!?????

I've honestly never seen any smartphone with a decent screen size get better runtime than an iPhone. The BB Torch runs a close 2nd from what I've seen. This applies to stock roms, no modding.

My comment about Apple/RIM control of hardware/software would of course only apply to stock ROMS. If you're hacking/modding, then you're really taking control from the OEMs and carriers. My point was Apple and RIM seem to get quite good battery life from their devices running stock ROMs compared to the Android, or WM phones running stock. Perhaps the carriers are partly to blame for the bloat they put on Android and WM phones.

I charged my stock, D2G to full, put it in flight mode, turned off the screen, unplugged it and didn't touch it for the last 3.5 hours. The battery is down to 90%.
Battery usage shows:
94% Phone idle
3% Display
3% Android System
2% Android OS

So that's about a full day and a half on standby in flight mode. I guess that doesn't seem too too bad, but certainly not great.

Now if only Exchange would work properly!

SetCPU profiles and GPS and WiFi off when not being used. I also don't use any widgets except Cache Mate and the picture frame with my 4 year old (which doesn't "run"). And this is all with Auto Brightness on too! Typical day would be: 30-50 emails, about 100 texts, being on here ALL THE TIME (I'm addicted), maybe 10-30 minutes of talking, and web browsing. And ALWAYS using the back button and never the home button.
