Battery life on MIUI

I wouldn't say its horrible.

I can go 12hrs with pretty heavy usage sometimes.
My standard is 10% an hr with heavy usage. If it does this or better I'm cool with it. And so far have gotten this or better with V6.3

Totally agree. I don't know how some people are having such bad battery life experiences with this rom. I normally get 12-15 hours per day, and that's with pretty hefty usage. The only thing I can think of is that some of those people who are using setcpu are using their profiles incorrectly? I don't know. I used to be an avid user of setcpu up until miui came out, and I've noticed that I haven't needed it. In fact, I uninstalled setcpu after the second update of the miui v2 came out.

I got 18 hrs and change yesterday and showed 20% left. While at work though. I will post screens of what I was asking others for after work today.

all versions of MIUI have horrible battery life

Care to share your experiences?

I typically find that this rom gives me the most out of my battery from the roms I've tried, outside of UD8. My phone usage is almost always at med-high usage and rarely doesn't last 24 hours.

I have seen you posting on this quite a bit on here, but something is wrong. This is by far not the usual experience for most MIUI users. However, what is horrible. I have used ROMs that dropped my bat 10% every 10 mins...that was horrible. Give us some numbers and more info so we can help you to have the same experiences that the rest of us are having...are you using SetCPU? If so...stop using it and see if that helps.

Hey guys,

I'm glad that many of you are experiencing such great battery life. I have only a few issues with this ROM, and I'm not sure why I am experiencing what I am experiencing. I'm going to try another fresh installation, but it seems to be very consistent for me - battery life on MIUI for my device is very bad (as in I can expect somewhere in the 2-4 hour range on a single charge and without low usage).

I usually sync 3 email accounts - 2x gmail, and 1 exchange. I get frequent emails through exchange, but gmail is less frequent. I don't talk on the phone very much at all. Here is my use environment and a few observations:

1. The phone runs much warmer when "idle" than with any other ROM. This leads me to believe that there are background processes that are running.
2. I am going to try to reformat a different CF card and do a totally fresh install of 6.3. I am going to only run Corporate email w/ no gmail accounts.
3. I have not been running SetCPU lately as I haven't really found much of a need.
4. When the phone gets lower on the battery (<30% or so), the phone starts getting warmer.
5. I have the "battery saver" feature turned off in this ROM
6. kernel really doesn't seem to matter very much to my performance. Slayher 800Mhz runs as warm as stock which runs as warm as Chevy's old kernels. Haven't tried others at this time.
7. Speed on this ROM is amazing as is the UI. I really hope I can get this figured out.

I have tried to remove all variables that exist by running as close to stock as possible while testing. That way I can be sure that none of the apps that I add are causing the battery drain.

Any other good utilities to look into to find the source of this problem?

Thanks,

Seth

Im in the same boat you are... I cannot count on my phone to have battery unless I leave it plugged in... If I go to bed with 100% battery, I can expect to wake up in the morning with 20-30% battery...

Usage is always the same...

1. Cell Standby
2. Phone Idle
3. Display
4. Etc
6. Etc
7. Etc (you get the idea)

For some reason Cell Standby is killing my battery, which makes no sense since I have nearly 5 bars at home.

So, i either deal with it, or ditch MIUI which sucks, because I love the layout.

Make sure that when you do a fresh install, flash the ROM when the battery is @ 100%. Also, let the battery completely die (let the phone turn off by itself, let it completely die off) once or twice after a fresh install. This will recalibrate the battery stats so that the phone reports correct percentages.

I'm believe most people complaining about horrible battery life would be surprised to find out that it's improperly calibrated battery stats. The last time I had improperly calibrated battery stats I stayed @ 5% for over 6 and a half hours before the phone finally died on it's own.

What are our options now that the rom is already installed? Wipe the battery stats and reinstall the rom over top of the existing 6.3? once the phone is 100%? Then let it die off and rinse and repeat the charge and discharge process?

If that is the case I am all for giving it a shot. Im very familiar with the battery calibration process on my MacBook Pros and this makes sense for the phones.

Check my previous post. I think you're suffering from the same improper battery stats calibration; so your battery is probably reporting the incorrect level.

Also, remember that screen only displays percentages. People tend to misread that screen and come to incorrect conclusions based on percentages. The percentages are a ball park of what has used the battery till that point (i.e.: 36% of the 22% already used, not 36% of the 100% total battery). When you think about it correctly, 36% of 25% is not that much at all; not to mention this screen doesn't display how many battery volts each thing has roughly used, which would be more precise.

What I had done before this process one night was to reboot the phone and wipe the stats, Once the phone booted, I then went into sleep mode and looked at the usage in the morning... Wouldnt those stats only be for the usage since last boot? Which was the stat I was looking at.

No need to install, if you just want to calibrate. Just charge to 100%, go into recovery and wipe battery stats, then rinse and repeat the charge and discharge once or twice.

Correct, those stats will be from last boot or since last unplugged; whichever came last.
