Welcome to the forum hawkintx. Let's see if we can help because you should be getting at least a day or more depending on use. The first thing you need to do is calibrate your battery meter (not your actual battery but the phone's meter that reads the state of charge for your battery). Sometimes that is off. FoxKat has some excellent threads in the battery forum on this subject, but to get you started, first:
-with the phone off, charge it to 100%.
-use the phone till 10% charge, then turn off and charge to 100% again.
-after this cycle, you can use your phone and charge as you normally would.
-do this meter calibration every 2-3 months.
(I tend to get this process slightly wrong every time I post it but FoxKat will come along and correct me where I got it wrong).
Next is to take care of some of the battery hogs:
-in ICS, data-network is set to global as default. This sucks battery big time. Go into your settings menu, go to "more..." directly under data usage, then select "Mobile Networks" then "Network Mode" and select LTE/CDMA. If you are in a 3g only area mostly, there is a way to set it to 3g only which saves even more battery. If you need that info, let us know.
-if you are using wifi, turn data off.
-setting your sync settings on emails, facebook, any apps that like to sync data takes allot more battery when syncing automatically rather than syncing periodically.
-your display uses up the most battery. Best to set the brightness at auto or to keep it at 30% unless in the sun and you need 100% brightness. There are power control brightness toggle widgets you can add to your homescreen that make toggling these settings on-off easy. I use widget locker and have that set up in my status bar so that the power controls are always within easy reach.
-many people use smart actions but I don't. So others may be able to help you with those settings.
Hope this helps you get started towards longer battery life.
