Best Music Player App

+1 for MixZing here as well.

I tried Cubed, and yes, like Amazonfemme said, it looks snazzy and works ok. I also tried the Music Mod, and it didn't add that much that I could see featurewise.

MixZing does have the Genre filtering and much more than the others. My music library was ripped about 13 years ago, or whenever you were able to start ripping CDs to the PC. And at that time, you just got filenames called Track01, 02, ect, and absolutely no Tags at all in my music. I had to manually type in each track's filename. I recently copied all of the filenames to the tags, added geners, and any other info that I could, but still I have no album art. MixZing seems pretty good at getting Album Art on the fly. MixZing works the best for me so far. I like all the extra features too... :icon_ banana:

My favorite music app is Player Pro. I tried Cubed, Mixzing, Music Mod, and Doubletwist. Player Pro has the best mix of features, most stability, the nicest lockscreen widget that I have seen so far. Cubed looks the neatest, and the only thing that I did not like about it is that it does not have a now playing screen.

Is Player Pro free? I only see one thing called Player Pro in the Market and it's not free. And I can't find anything on it with a google search..

MixZing also has an EQ, which is almost perfect ... unfortunately, even though it seems to give you the option to apply an EQ to a single song, an entire album, or all songs, I've found that it applies it to all songs no matter which option I select. I'm hoping that gets fixed, because on the whole it's a great app.

Following up on this, for anyone who's interested ... I decided to e-mail MixZing about my issue with the EQ. One of the developers, Peter Jeffe, responded within minutes, which wins him major points with me. He explained that for albums or songs that don't have a custom preset, the EQ defaults to the last setting applied. So if I apply Bass & Treble Boost to a particular album, that album will always show that setting ... but any song or album where I haven't set the EQ specifically will also show that setting, until the next time I apply one. The only way to avoid that at present is to apply a custom setting to each album individually.

I told him I think the player needs to offer users the option to apply a default setting to all albums/songs that don't have a custom preset, rather than having it change each time you apply a new setting. But at least now I know why my EQ settings kept changing!

Player with genres & lyrics?

I have tried both Cubed and also the Music Mod apps. But neither of them let you filter music by Genre! :icon_eek: Why not? Isn't that why you categorize your music with the Genre tag? Of am I just missing this feature and it is really in those apps somewhere? Please Help!

Is there some other player that does use Genre??

Thanks,
Snacko

Sorry to revive an old thread. I'm on the same boat. I'm an iPhone convert and am dearly missing the stock player on my iPhone. Never realized how much I liked it until I can't use it on my Droid X. Sound familiar?

I also really need a player that sorts songs (not just artists like PlayerPro) by Genre, and will let me shuffle or play all songs within a genre continuously. Of all the players I've tried, and I've probably tried all the ones mentioned in this thread, none of them can do that. The one that came closest is Mixzing. But when I play a song within a genre, it doesn't automatically play the next song at the end or do anything when I skip or shuffle. I'm assuming it's only capable of doing that within a playlist. I also don't like the look of the interface with all those square buttons.

I really like the interface of Music Mod, but it doesn't sort by genre, otherwise, it's close to perfect. I would even settle for a player that sorts by folders.

My second criteria is a player that will read the lyrics embedded in tags. I have not found any player that can do that, or am I missing something? If so, please point me to the right direction.

My Droid X is really growing on me, but this player issue is driving me nuts. I'm no developer, but is it that hard to create a player identical to the one on the iPhone? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I discovered TuneWiki and I love it. I love how it can grab lyrics for any song and it's amazing how fast it does so!! If there isn't any available, which has been very rare in my case, it's either because of hte id3 tag on the mp3 has other information in it that causes it to not find an results or there really isn't any lyrics available. It also has some online features built in like internet radio and youtube searching for the songs your playing. It's a pretty cool app. I love it so far, but I'm going to check out this "Cubed" that everyone is talking about as well.

I tried TuneWiki and it's definitely one of the better players that support lyrics. But it doesn't sort by Genre, which is really important to me. Cubed is a cool player as well, and reads genres as a playlist, which is better than no support at all, but doesn't display lyrics. It's frustrating that there isn't a player out there that will do both.

Cubed not good for car dock use

I liked cube, and had it set as my music player, however, when using it in your car, when you unplug the headphone jack, it does not stop the music player. The music then starts playing out of the speaker...

Pandora stops. Slacker does not stop either...

Default music app stops of course...So, for now its what i am using. Found a program to download the album art.

Dainty- I'm sure you've tried it, but bTunes is basically the iPhone Music Player for Android.
Maybe lacking a few bells and whistles, but the UI looks very similar.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it and it does look very similar to the iPhone's player, but it doesn't read embedded lyrics, that's the only thing though. It'll definitely be a toss up between bTunes & Cubed in terms of functionality for my purposes. I think Tunewiki is the only player I've tried that reads lyrics, but doesn't have other stuff I need. Oh well...

TuneWiki Social Media Player

I am downloading 3 as I type this to give it a whirl, but one I have installed is called TuneWiki. It has a widget similar to the native player on the DX, but has many more features. Amongst the offerings:

  • Easier "Quick Shuffle" of your songs.
  • Lyrics scroll along with the song, so if you want to sing along or simply read what they are singing, it's rather awesome!
  • Last.fm and SHOUTcast Radio links (must have accounts to use)
  • Search YouTube for music videos and/or play your own Music video rips.
  • Interactive maps... find out who else in the world is listening to the same song as you and where they are listening to it. Or just find out what others close to you are playing. (Uses Google maps)
  • Authorize Twitter or Facebook and allow the application to post what you are currently listening to.
Visually, it's not as stunning as "Cubed" is, but I happen to like all of the various features mentioned above.

I'm seriously going to have like a dozen different music players by the time this thread ends! I just can't decide! they're all so good in their own way.
