Bionic is discontinued?

I'll never understand why people listen to VZW reps. Time and again, corporate or third party, these idiots have proven that they have no freaking idea what they are talking about.

Give ya an idea of what I'm talking about:

Two weeks ago, I walked into a VZW store and was BSing with one of the employees. I brought up the Droid 4 and he said "There isn't going to be Droid 4, Moto discontinued the physical keyboard"

That would be surprising. However, the Bionic being discontinued wouldn't. If I'm nit mistaken, wasn't it pretty much a flop?

Actually, no it wasn't a flop. There are still a whole lot of Bionic users that are perfectly happy with their devices, myself included!!! Each and every update that comes out continues to improve the device. I for one, haven't had a single data drop since mid December when 901 was released. Most of the complaints I think are from people who have unrealistic expectations of virgin technology, and shouldn't be early adopters of said technology anyways.

And I think you may have completely missed my point. The VZW rep said that the Droid 4 didn't exist, a WEEK before it was being released!!!! Clueless doesn't even sum it up!

Plain and simple, don't believe ANYTHING a VZW rep says (especially a third party retailer), until you actually see it happen with your own eyes!

Call if you want. It's not a secret. A member here at DF already said a CORPORATE store told him/her the same thing. The company (American Cellular) has loads of stores across several states. Mostly in the south. Like I said. I'm just going off what they told me. Maybe you can find our more. But if you (or anyone else) wants more info I'd call Verizon direct. Speak with a Tech or Supervisor.

I just called them. First I got a new guy who didn't know anything about anything, but he gave me to the Assistant Manager. The AM said that he had never heard of anything like that and doubted that any employee at the store had told anyone that.

I am not trying to bust your b*&L here, but that is what I was told by that store.

I wouldn't be surprised if they've already begun discontinuation of the bionic. It was intended to sell in huge numbers before Xmas and it did, then its successors, the razr and maxx, debuted and now they are motos flagship phones.
I also wouldn't be surprised if they kept manufacturing it for another year. It's robust in terms of both computing and structural hardware, has the 1080p cam, 4g, and a dual-core processor. It's built to last.

If they were OFFICIALLY discontinuing the Bionic they would make an official statement...Will all the hype that came out with this phone before it's release (BEFORE it's ACTUAL release) they would have to confirm this with a public statement...going by rumors is just ridiculous. "RUMOR" said that the 5.7.893 was the next "OFFICIAL" update! Well a bunch of us found out the hard way that wasn't the case!

When it's posted on VZN's site then i'll believe it

I guess the lesson is take what verizon says with a grain of salt. You ain't busting nothing. That rep could have been down playing the Bionic to try and sell me a higher priced model. Who knows.

Maybe the idea is to get the Magic 8 Ball app and ask it instead of Motorola or Verizon. Be about as accurate and you don't have to wait on the phone.

Only reason they might pull the Bionic now is, because the price has dropped and the s/w has stabilized (.902), it is now a great price performer and could impact selling newer, more expensive phones. Glad I have mine!

Otherwise, I also subscribe to the brain-dead Verizon rep theory :)

LOL, I would love to hear your opinion on which technology on the Bionic is actually "virgin"...There is nothing ground breaking associated with the Bionic.

Sure there was. The Bionic was the first device to use Motorola's proprietary LTE chipset.

That just shows how little you actually know.

1. It's Moto's FIRST attempt at an LTE device
2. It's the FIRST dual core LTE device from any manufacturer on any network.

So yeah it's going to have more issues than the 2nd iteration of dual core/lte devices. Growing pains have to happen somewhere, otherwise there wouldn't be any progress whatsoever.

Not to mention the fact that the LTE network as a whole is still in the development phase. I also want to point out that there isn't a single LTE device that hasn't suffered the exact same problems at some point in time.

oh, you did mean virgin for Moto, I misunderstood as virgin tech in general.

yeah, it seems every technology coming out of Moto is virgin to them...
