Bootloader Crack Imminent

I thought we already had an $bf for the x and d2?

I believe most of the work being done is currently on the Droid X and they needed an official one for that. Perhaps I misunderstood at first though, it seems as if it was not the Sierra Bravo Foxtrot but rather a source code on the efuse itself. It seems like after getting their hands on that they learned the exact way it worked and confirmed their assumptions so they are pushing forward.

Exciting times...exciting times.

Gentlemen (and ladies) rev your engines. ;)

not to be a doubting Thomas but I will believe it when I see it.

If they really got efuse source I'm a little more willing to believe.

Clap your hands if you believe in Tinkerbell and D2 bootloader cracking... ;)

Thanks for the link, it's a good read if you want to see the rest of what they need to do to crack it. They're actuallly well on their way to cracking the efuse, they just need to the rest of the pieces to the puzzle. And man, I can't wait to get a Droid X to root and overclock.

Maybe I made it seem closer than it was but good news today. According to twitter the guys working on unlocking the Droid X and Droid 2 got a Sierra Bravo Foxtrot file from a Chinese source and are just about done with the unlock.

The readme mentions a blog - I'd like to see it. Got a URL? (Assuming Blog isn't = Twitter...)

Nvm...think I found it. Google is my friend.

Did you read and try this how to improve user performance on android phones nenolod.net ?

Also read the part where he says overclocking is bad...kind of funny coming from someone who is working on cracking the bootloader.

Yeah...that caught my eye. Turns out the performance tweaks are already covered in 2.2.

The overclocking comments made me laugh for the same reason. :D

Are these tweaks possible to do if you dont have a pc?

I tried to tweaks and there seems to be a bit of a difference in input time thanks to the one part that turns off some of the scheduler bottleneck but from what I'm reading the other values are already set in 2.2. Overall though it's really not a huge deal, he's talking out his ass in regards to being the same as Overclocking.

according to sholes unlock irc, that is old and has not worked well for 2.2 and really is not needed since 2.2 already addressed those issues.

Barring placebo affect I do believe it had some impact on the response time of presses. The last command is the only one that makes a difference in the case of 2.2 but that still removes a bit of bottleneck. Overall I'd say don't bother though.

As for the gains it did give prior to 2.1 I do not doubt they were good then to say that those gains would have been the equivalent of running a droid with a 1.2ghz overclock kernel seems suspect.

Well, I think anyone who was on #sholesunlock this afternoon knows that the bootloader crack is not, in fact, imminent at all.
Pretty amazing to watch happen...but Motocache1 and [mbm] pretty much thoroughly dissected nenolod's premises and he admitted that his methods hadn't probably even worked as he had first thought.
Furthermore, his proposed idea about using kexec to overwrite the mbmloader was proven baseless.

Back to square one for now...armed with a good deal more knowledge and healthy skepticism! ;)

Well that is depressing. Well at least my sensationalist post gets people to know about the project, I stand by it still not as truth but a brilliant piece of propaganda.

EDIT: However, isn't the rough AOSP ROMS using kexec to skip the bootloader check and load another kernel? In essence it sees that there is an official ROM, starts up and gets hijacked into the other kernel part way through boot or that's what I was lead to believe. I know with or without the bootloader crack custom kernels are coming, it will just be a much less sloppy process with a bootloader crack.

Thanks for the update...stormclouds everywhere. ;)

Lucky I'm already perfectly happy w/my D2. :D
