Buying the Droid - Where do you suggest?

I bought mine from Best Buy and don't regret it whatsoever. I paid $119.00 out the door because of their price matching. I pay $8 Dollars a month for the insurance and get more out of it than Verizon offers. It comes with the exact same one year warranty from Motorola that Verizon offers too. All in all I paid a lot less and got the same thing I would have had I went to a Verizon store.

This is just a friendly clarification of my earlier comment. Verizon wireless will not replace your phone if you have purchased it from a non corporate store and you are having issues with it. Yes, it does come with Moto warranty no matter where you purchase the phone but if you buy the phone at a non corporate store and have issues with the phone they will ask you to either go back to the store if it’s within the 30days or send it to Moto for repair. Verizon will not service the phone in any way from what I have been told by several reps and supervisors from a previous experience. They only offer the swap out to customers that purchase the unit directly for them.

The Insurance would require you to make a claim in which you would have to pay a deductible for the refurbished handset. I believe that they would only allow you to make 2 claims a year. Verizon will swap the unit out 3 times and if you still are having issues with the 4th unit they will replace it with a brand new unit or model depending on availability.

I personally would rather pay a little more and have less of a headache just to because of my bad experiences with warranties.

Just to clarify on this a bit.... VZW will replace your device under the 1 year manufactures warranty if it is bought from (A) a corporate location or (B) a VZW PREMIUM Retailer. I have no issues getting devices replaced what so ever.

With that being said, best cheapest option is to buy from VZW online website (purely because they will do instant rebates) But you cannot go wrong buying from a VZW corporate store OR a PREMIUM Retailer.

Can you share where you got the phone for 119$, i'm buying a Droid today and would love to walk into best buy with that price for them to match.

Thanks in advance!

I looked up the Dell website and found they were selling the Droid for $119. So I printed off the price and took it to Best Buy.

FYI Dell is now selling it for $149.99

I truly believe some people will spend a few hours looking for something $20 cheaper... Does anyone place a value on their time?

I understand being conscious of the cost of things.....but the extent some go to for so little...

The amount we are talking about is not so little. On launch day I spent $119 for my droid while those who went to a verizon store spent $299.That is a saving of over $180 out the door. Granted Verizon was offering a $100 mail in rebate but that is still alot of money shelled out at one time.

I also spent $60 on accessories at a Verizon store so in all spent $180. That is still $20 less than those who bought the phone at Verizon without accessories and got their mail in rebate.

I would happily go to this extent for so MUCH.

Is "Go Wireless" a PREMIUM Retalier?

I got my moto droid for $99. Verizon does the "New every 2 years" promo that gives 100 credit towards any new phone. I know amazon has it for 150 right now. You can go to a best buy and get that matched. That way you can get the phone right then and there. I'd suggest getting the verizon insurance. Better and quicker claim support. I had a phone once that somehow got into my dishwasher(dont ask, haha) Called them up, they shipped the phone overnight recieved it the next day. Obviously a deductible is involved, $50.

I got mine from Dell - they are still running the $119 for the phone and no activation fee for new customers (You can change the plan on the left hand side if you want a different one.)

Dell Wireless - Welcome to our Wireless World

Shipping was through FedEx and was quick. I also found out the company I work for is part of the Verizon employee discount plan and I get 20% off my bill each month! Make sure to check that out as well you may get a discount.

That $119 price is for New Verizon customers. For existing Verizon customers the Dell price is $150.

I know in my post I said "$119 for the phone and no activation fee for new customers" - still a good deal if anyone is new to Verizon.
