crappy battery after OTA

Say your car is acting up and you take it to the dealer to see what gives. Would you go to sales and ask the what's wrong? Probably not. You would go to the service department. Store reps know how to sell. They know about the features and specs of a phone better than most anyone. Just like a vehicle salesperson. Once you get to the what's wrong part they usually have nothing of merit to offer. Need technical help? Dial *611 and select the option for tech support. This issue is so new even tech support will be of little assistance. After enough calls the engineers will get on it and a patch will be issued.

I went to tech support not to sales. His solution was to download froyo task manager and start killing programs

After experiencing huge drop in performance I'm trying out the following:
Took off juice defender plus, plotter, and auto memory killer (they work together). Kept my normal auto brightness and other saving options...installed battery monitor widget and testing out.
Wi fi is off

Sorry if it appeared that I was being critical of your post. I was making more of a general statement than addressing a particular post. I have my concerns over store techs. Some of the posts I have read makes it look like the store reps take turns being the "tech" as the comments I see quoted do not seem to be coming from tier 2 tech support personnel. Even if the store tech is legit their exposure to a particular issue will be limited to walk in customers. A phone tech will be getting calls from all over the country. At any rate I am a little miffed that this ota was not tested in real time. It wasn't like there wasn't enough time. There was a six day gap between approval and the rollout.

Why are you guys not trying LionzFans suggestion? All reports are, it seems to work.

And it makes sense as well, considering all the system functions that were reset with the OTA.

Give it a shot - everyone seems to be ignoring his suggestion, preferring to ask for a patch that probably isn't necessary.

Been there...

AllForNaught, read my post.

Tried this before he ever mentioned it. No joy.

In fact, Lionzfan's suggestion doesn't even apply to the type of increased battery consumption, display usage, most (all?) of us are experiencing. I also mention this in my post.

I am in the process of giving it a shot right now. I do have my doubts based on the screen being responsible for 78% of battery use .

I tried it too. That's why trying other things. It didn't seem to work unfortunately. I keep looking around for suggestions will test. I'm not comfortable with rooting the phone...afraid to screw it up. I do hope that we get resolution.

Well so far it's down 30% after five hours. If there is not an increasing radius of drain that would equate to 16 hours. That would be great. But confidence is low. It is an improvement though as it previously went from full to empty in nine hours . All in stand by mode. I'll be sure to post if this works.

my wifes facinate was getting great battery life before the update. now its dying really fast. she is not rooted and not hacked in any way. But the battery only lasts about 6 hours. any way to fix this? or should i just take the phone to verizon and complain? she is on her 2nd replacement.

If anything my battery life is slightly better. I do have another problem which I had before update- phone wont power up unless it is plugged into charger. anyone had this problem?

The display usage was ALWAYS between 60 and 85% on Fascinate. It's obviously the most battery consuming aspect of these phones.

It's a percentage - I can't imagine it being lower, since if you're using the phone, it's on most of the time.

That is all true. Only problem is that 78% was with the phone in stand by over night. Other than a few email notifications the phone was not touched. The display was idle.

Still have nothing to report. It was down to 54% after six hours. The wife didn't know that I was monitoring battery usage and plugged the phone in before bed like she always does. She was up late cooking for the holiday and I didn't tell her not to charge it.

I half-way agree with you. I will try to state my case with a little more clarity.

With an equal number of minutes of "voice calls" and "display", "voice calls" should use a significantly higher percentage of battery than the "display" does. The super amoled display on my wife's Fascinate consumes, or should consume, even less battery than the display on my Droid X.

After Froyo, the Fascinate's "display" uses a much higher percentage of battery than voice calls on my wife's phone even when there were significantly more minutes of "voice calls". This is different than 2.1 and not a desirable different.

Okay, so after the battery pull *228 option 2 the battery lasted a bit over 12 hours with moderate use. Voice, some web surfing and mms messages. To be fair that was about what it was getting before froyo. I was hoping to get the same type of performance my X gets after the froyo update finally came through for the fascinate. About six hours or so more than that. From the posts about better battery use I am thinking it may be in the apps. Apps are the only variable from one user to the next. One other odd thing. The phone will not stay off when plugged in. I shut it down and it reboots.
