Did anybody get a new bionic and it fixed the 3g drop out?

My replacement Bionic has yet to do it... i lose 4g always and even 3g &1x sometimes in my office building... but so far almost a week later it always seems to reconnect to 4g within a minute or so upon going outside. Much better than the hours and hours later of my 1st Bionic.

This new one does have its own little issues... sometimes it doesnt realize its plugged into the car dock... doesnt even start charging... at that point just plugging in the usb cable direct doest make it start charging. Usually waiting 10 minutes and plugging in again makes it recognize its plugged in. Hoping its not the micro usb on my phone with intermittent connection. But i have a home charging cable at home that works every time.

Funny how as I was reading this my data confection was lost. I've gotten 2 replacements, and now I might go back for the last time since this one restarts itself for no reason, 4 times within 5 hours and the data instability issue came with this one also. I really wanted to keep the bionic but out doesn't seem to want me :(. If I was to get another replacement and
Keep it, what are the the chances these issues will get resolved??

I've gone thru half a doz in store new replacements and all for diff issues. This last fone is a keeper yet I too keep dropping data. I drive a semi and have found out it happens in areas far grater than my previous " dead spots" so I'm inclined to believe there are definitely tower issues involved. I to use JD and will be avoiding it to see out that may be aggravating the situation. JD will surely patch this if possible once its confirmed and doable .

Keep us updated please!

Came back to the office today, I've no information on whether or not the network trouble ticket I submitted was worked, but I have a very usable 4G connection in my office once again. I need to observe this for a few days to see if the problem recurs.

@Shadez, based on what I'm reading here, what Verizon's told me, and my own experience, I concur - it's probably firmware (acquisition and network handoff) plus towers (signal tweaks).

I think it's important, if you're having these issues sporadically, but in specific locations, to CALL VERIZON and tell them what you're experiencing - they do seem to be taking an interest in LTE issues (at least from a network perspective).

A factory reset, and new SIM card didn't fix my issue, so took it back next day and after a struggle, got a new bionic. It is almost perfect. It still takes a little longer than it should to switch from 4g to 3g and 1x, but it is ok, until they figure out whats going on.

I think it is the area you are in. My phone is pretty much always say 4Glte. I remember the sales guy at Verizon telling another customer that they are still upgrading. And more and more places will have it.

Just curious... are you using Juice Defender? I was having the issue constantly, having to go into and out of airplane mode to get service. I turned off Juice Defender and the issue completely went away. I want to have more than one person (me) pin this problem on Juice Defender before I start a thread about it, because I like their software and they support it well.

I also had this problem with Juice Defender and got rid of the app. Since then, I haven't had any issues. Juice Defender didn't play nice with my phone at ALL.

Verizon comping customers for the Bionic data bug fix etc

Hey Gang,
Just want you all to know of my experience before the true OTA fix comes down the pipe.
I too have been plagued with all these problems with the Bionic from the third day of ownership...even have had the store order me three "genuine certified like new" replacements. Each and every time I had the store rep note in the order I will be testing the replacement for 5 days before returning my brand new phone. As I had expected the three other replacements also had the same issue and as of yesterday I was calling VZW in Lincoln Nebraskas call center and I wanted to get to the bottom of this. The call taker Kathy who claimed to be in the "loyalty dept" told me out right this was a Moto problem and it was affecting the radio of a certain number of Bionics and it was a sure bet that any "like new" replacement was going to be another customers return for the same problem. I explained to her I feel I should be given one of the units that were not affected...I told her...a) my battery was being depleted unnecessarily due to this problem...b) I have used up all three of my screen protectors on those "like new" replacements...and...c) my battery door is taking excessive wear due to daily battery pulls to reset the problem.

She had notated the account that when VZW pushed the OTA fix for this problem, wait 5 days to see if the problem is corrected and to call customer service for A FREE PACK OF SCREEN PROTECTORS, A NEW STANDARD BATTERY...AND A NEW DOOR.

I suggest you all Bionic Brothers get on the phone before the OTA update and get what you deserve!!!

I did this and said I didn't know why I was paying $30 extra a month for a data plan I can't use. They credited me with $20 then transferred me to a tech who seemed to know what he was talking about, and actually reassured me that Motorola is diligently working on this fix. So.. I am holding onto hope.

i think it is in the network and not in the bionic. I originally had no problem switching between 3G and 4G (excluding the bad app from Sirius). but now, even email has the issue.

You may be right. To quote the VZW tech I spoke with, "Android is in it's infancy, and with 4G LTE being introduced, with each new phone, with new features, it's a matter of getting the towers to play nicely with each other when it comes to switching between 3g/4g" Now that's what he told me, whether it's true or not I cannot say, but it is a possibility.

CDMA only

I live in a 3G only area and was continually losing my data signal. Switched over to CDMA only and have not had a problem since. Just have to remember to switch back to CDMA/LTE when I'm in a 4G area....

I also had this problem with Juice Defender and got rid of the app. Since then, I haven't had any issues. Juice Defender didn't play nice with my phone at ALL.

Seriously. I bought the pro version and eventually had to wipe it all in safe mode. Would not recommend fir bionic. It does have some pretty good battery saving options stock that help

there is a problem in some areas where you have 4g and 3g coverage
I have this problem is a area where there are tons of towers within range but when I went to a area where the 4g coverage is new my phone worked fine
verizon says motorola has a software issue but why do not I have problem in a new 4g area phone or network????
motorola is putting a fix out soon

till then turn the 4g sim off in settings/wireless & networks/mobile networks/Network Mode select CDMA only 3gworks fine

also Verizon did not tell me that 4g phones do not get data connections with the 3g network extender

so far the BIONIC IS A BUST:mad:

Having no idea what you're referring to with regards to a 3g extender I did a google search and this is what I came up with.. (Samsung SCS-2U01) comes into play, which is an updated version of the original Verizon Network Extender than came out in 2009. The main difference between these two Femtocell units is that the newer 3G version is EVDO Rev A capable, allowing for faster data speeds, while the original model was limited to using the slower 1x for data. The Verizon 3G
Based on the information, you either have an old unit or something else needs to be fixed...
