Do You Think Verizon Should Be Able to Edit the Internet Before You Access It?

Wow, shocking that it took one and a half pages before a mention of China. This speaks solidly of that type of draconian Chinese government control.

My concern is to what degree. Yeah, like a poster said, if its child pron I can accept that. But the problem with censors is that what will be considered the moral code. Especially with stuff that is in a gray area. Just because I may not agree with certain sites does not mean another person should not be able to access it. If I dnt want to access it then dont type in the web address. We have enough setting that allow us to block certain content. My other concern is what will keep vzw from using this right to prevent people from accessing sites for bandwidth purposes. Or prevent people from being able to go to the site to download wifi tethering for root users. Vzw wants 100% complete cotrol of their network, the devices its customrs can own, and how the customers can use their network. Basically vzw is sounding like the fruit.

so when Verizon censors their net access what will you get when you search for Sprint or AT&T?
Blank space probably. Darn phone's conking out...
Though on the note of stupidity, I really wonder what goes through those idiots' minds up in wherever vzw gets these ideas. Nothing an angry(peaceful) mob can't solve? If this somehow passes through, I'm moving to another continent at this rate. Fascists indeed.

Breakfast beats worrying.

VZW out of Control

I am glad the government stopped Verizon from censorship. The problem is they thought about doing it in the first place. The people who came up with that idea should be terminated by the company immediately. Because of things like this long term contracts should be outlawed then customers could show them by leaving.

I like the newspaper analogy, but I don't see VZW as the editor, I see them as the 12 year old newsboy. LMAO picturing the the newsboy getting his bundle of papers, going through them tearing out the articles he doesn't like (leaving the funny page), then sacking them up, getting on his bike, and running his route. How long would he have his job?

Where does the 800 pound gorilla sleep?

Verizon want's to edit our internet content, locks down phones so we can't delete their bloat ware. phones and plans are more expensive than competitors. their rebate process is three steps and if you miss one, no rebate. all of these things are designed to keep them in control. Is Verizon a Chinese company? they are behaving like a Monopoly. and ATT is getting in the act as well. Hmmm lets see both were part of MA BELL. which was a monopoly. you can have any color phone that you want as long as it is black.

i think we should start calling Verizon MA Verizon. and ATT MA ATT maybe the regulators will get the hint!

I am a Fios customer. If it comes to Verizon being able to censor my internet, I do not believe it will take me very long to leave them and go to someone else.

An open Internet

The Internet seems now, and should forever remain, a free and open resource. Payment for access should in no way enable the provider to modify content. In the future the Internet would ideally become as fee to use as any road or highway, supported by a tax based on useage and regulated as a utility. But just as a utility cannot control how gas is used, the Internet should remain free of all efforts to limit or suppress content. As a bonus, there should be a premium layer that would be free from advertising available to those willing to pay for it. This should be the only content modification allowed.

Censorship is just wrong

We pay them for a pipeline to the internet, not to be censored. Verizon has no right to tell us what we can and can not see on the internet. This is no different from folks trying to ban books from the library because it does not fit with their world view. It is not Verizon's place to prevent folks from seeing what is out there. If Verizon feels that this is a service that is of value to the public and that there is a market for it, then they should offer it as a distinct product offering. I wonder how many customers they would get...
