Does phonemypc just not work?

Any news on this update to allow access to a locked computer?

I have an email from you saying it was going to be fixed before new years.

Hi Steve,

No, no update available yet. I'm sure you understand why we don't give out dates or timelines anymore--we're too optimistic. Each time we've been "sure" of when the work would be done, some other problem has jumped in front of us that we've had to resolve: connectivity issues, server outages, touch-screen problems for a few folks, installation issues for remote-login service code, etc.

We are moving forward as fast as we possibly can, while maintaining a solid commitment to our current users that they will not lose functionality.

Stay tuned. We're not far now.

all i can get is no host for some reason

The "No Hosts" message means that your Phone is successfully connecting to our servers, but that it cannot find any PCs with the same credentials connected.

There are two reasons for this to happen, in order of probability:

(1) The credentials on your phone do not match those entered on the PC. Credentials are case sensitive.

(2) Something is blocking your PC from connecting to our servers. Let's check to see if it is connected.

1) On your PC, double-click PhoneMyPC's system-tray icon.
2) The Settings window shows.
3) Look at the title of the window. In parenthesis at the end of the titie, it sould say one of:
(Connected)
(Connecting...)
(Could not Connect)

Please let us know which one you see.

If it does not say "(Connected)" then either security software on your PC, your Windows Firewall or your hardware firewall/router are blocking your PC from connecting to to our servers. Please be sure all of these allow outgoing connections from your PC on port 49200.

Hi Mk4,

No worries about being a noob. We were noobs too, until, well, we weren't :-)

When you first configure PhoneMyPC on your phone, the settings screen shows. The first two fields on that screen are your PhoneMyPC user name and password, which must match what you enter on your PC(s). These are used to give access to your PC(s) from your phones.

The next (third) field is called "Application Password," and it is optional. It is designed to protect your PCs in the event that your phone is lost or stolen. If you enter anything here, you will be prompted to enter it again when you run the program, and if you fail, the program will simply close.

It sounds like you entered an Application Password, and then forgot what it was.

You can clear this password--and all other settings as well--by uninstalling and re-installing the software. After, you will have to re-enter your PhoneMyPC credentials.

If you are within your 24 hour trial period, this may invalidate it. But, no worries; if you decide not to keep the software, we are always happy to issue a refund at least several days after purchase; just email us.

My .02 on PMPc

I installed PhoneMyPC and it's worked perfectly and exactly as they described it to work. My only problem (not their fault) was that I didn't realize that it wouldn't allow you to log on to a computer that was password protected. In other words; if you need to type in a user name / password to log on to your computer; then PMPc isn't there yet. I'm told they are working on that now; so I can't wait to see it updtated!

I use this app daily and often during the day. I have had the "no host found" type thing come up from time to time. From what I can tell; it is most often an issue with web connection at that moment in time. I did on one occasion need to reboot my desktop computer to get PMPc working again; but I don't think that had anything to do with their software either.

In short; a FANTASTIC app. Very well designed. Works exactly as they described it to work. It's one of my top Droid Apps to date.

Remote-login is getting very close now! This weekend we were testing the new build, running as a Windows service with full log-in support and all network data encrypted.

Soon!

hello, I've been using your phonemypc app for my motorola droid for quite some time now and I must say I love it! However, recently I've noticed that I can't enter text into a field.. I have the blinking cursor in the text field but when I type nothing shows up on either the phone or the computer.. I've searched and couldn't find anything on the subject

any help is appreciated

thanks!

I'm sure I'm missing it somewhere, and yes I have searched here and on phonemypc's site, but is it possible to drag and drop using the phone? Meaning move icons around on the PC's desktop., resize/move windows etc. I know how to left click, right click and double click, but not how to left click and hold for dragging.

Freakin awesome app. Had this puppy up and screaming withing 3 minutes.

Hello,

About the keyboard
The keyboard should work. The problem is likely with the version of the PC app you have. It seems some browsers are not downloading the new version, but preferring to use their [older] cached version.

Please uninstall on the PC, then download from this alternate link and install.

http://www.softwareforme.com/phonemypc/alt/PhoneMyPC.msi

Consequently, you can prove that this is the problem by double-clicking the PhoneMyPC icon in the System Tray. If the title does not say "1.0.15," or "1.0.16," you have the wrong version.

About Dragging
We really need to add a "click-lock" button. We will.
In the meant time, the DPAD center button works as a left mouse button, so try this:

1) Enter Full Cursor Mode (the default for this is the Search button--magnifying glass)
2) Use your finger to position the cursor over the thing to be dragged
3) Press and hold the DPAD-center button
4) Use your finger on the screen to move the mouse, dragging the thing
5) Release the DPAD-center button to raise the left mouse button

Cool I'll give that a shot. Right now I'm getting the no host error, guessing my PC or internet connection at the house is being fickle at the moment.

The most common cause for this is mis-typed credentials. But, if it was working and you've not re-entered credentials, it must be the connection.

Or your PC has gone to sleep?

Yeah it worked earlier and even came out of a sleep (I'm guessing anyway, it had been far more than 15 minutes since I had last touched the PC). I removed the password protection on my screensaver last night.

I'll play with it when I get home. Thanks for the fast replies.
---------------------------

Edit ...

Wait, I forgot about it possibly going to REAL sleep rather than just turning on the screen saver. I bet you are right and it is snoozing at home while I work away.

Lazy bum.
