Droid 2 hacking/rom install class

I have a question about doing an SBF flash with 2.3.20

The OP says the process is the same, except you only have one sbf file. After you apply that file, wipe data/cache and reboot, do you need to go back into recovery? Or at that point is the process done and your phone is back to stock?

That is all you need to do..now if you wanna go a little further for when you are about to turn it in, go into settings, privacy, and do a factory reset....and it will be complete out of the box like new.

Help! I have bricked my phone. I installed an app yesterday to block some startup apps. It a didn't work out very well for me, continuous boot loot. So I've been reading and working on a fix all day. finally I came across this school thread and ran the RSDlite 3 times, all reported Status: finished, and result: Pass. the phone is stuck in this Boot mode now, and I get error messages:A5,70,70,00,1F. Under that it reads:
NEW_MAP Blank
Service Req'd
Battery OK
Ok to program
Transfer Mode:
USB

What to do, what to do???

That is the bootloader screen. That is where you need to be to flash the sbf.

Stay calm, you will get it resolved! It will be a good learning experience!

R2 D2 is alive again! Scary stuuf

What to do, what to do???

What bootloader do you have? Did you flash the proper SBF? The error you're reporting is mostly reported when the wrong SBF was used.

I got her, what a learning curve that was!!! I found another SBF, and this one worked. It was a Droid 2 SBF, so I rooted it again, reinstalled BootStrapper, and I'm reinstalling my last backup with CW now.
All is well so far. I couldn't find a SBF for the R2 D2 version, that would have been easier!!! But this seems to have worked.

Thanks guys!

quick question, I see version 2.2 and 2.3 talked about, but my wifes D2 came with 2.4.330

Does this procedure still apply to this version?

2.2 and 2.3 usually refer to major android versions.. If they are called
2.2 Froyo and 2.3 Gingerbread then there is no ambiguity with that

Verizon's versions are different (but very annoyingly similar) for whatever reason and in this case 2.4.330 is running Android 2.2 Froyo.

This Article on Update 2.4.330 may help explain too.

I am not sure about the specifics of your phone as far as this thread is concerned. Note that D2 and D2G do have some differences, so study up on your phone specifically. e.g. make sure you get the right .sbf

Now I just feel silly. I'm still on my d1 and we have update 2.2.1
I read gingerbread may not get released to the d1 so I misread my wife's d2. I see now she is still on 2.2. Procedure worked great

sbfs

Hi. Here is my situation. Last night I saw droid lifes blog on liberty. I installed z4root and did it that way. Then bootstrapper for 2.00. I followed the instructions per droid life, made the backup in recovery. Flashed succesfully, I always wipe cache and data before flashing rom. I also tried squid and fission.

Now I am reading about sbfs, and how u need the right sbf for your phone. Mine is a droid 2, and as the post in here is old I am wondering if ill need a different sbf. I also would like someone to walk me through it if possible unless his instructions are same. When I flashed yesterday my d2 was fully updated with ota's I believe

What? Not sure what you are trying to say.

The only reason you would need an sbf for your phone is if you messed something up and had to put it back to stock to correct it. If you want to find the version out which you will need. Go to settings at you home page, click about phone, scroll down to system version. There you will find the information. But you DO NOT need to run the sbf unless you want to erase all of the data you just put on your phone.

Thanks to pc747 for pointing me to the right direction to returning my Droid 2 to out of the box factory settings to start root all over again. Only took me 15 minutes to do on the first try. Real simple for anyone who needs to do it.

Don't be confused with Droid X and Droid 2. As stated, both methods are pretty much the same for returning to factory settings and wiping everything out to start over again. If you have Windows XP, get the patch! If you have Vista, you're fine. Windows 7, even better.

Lastly, some may get confused but common sense is what will get you through easily. I noticed post #3 Step 5:

Step 5: Wait for it to get to 100% and reboot your phone to the motorola "M" symbol first then unplug your device. While at the M take off the battery cover out and remove your battery. Wait for about 3 seconds and then reinstall your battery. Power on and hold the physical X key until you get to the triangle and !.

Now this can be confusing to some. Let's make it a bit easier for those who are new to it. When RSDLite is taking care of the flashing and such, it will reboot your phone (meaning it will turn it off and turn it on (by itself) and you will then see the M logo, as soon as you see this unplug your USB and then take the battery out. I would have the cover to the battery already off before this so you're not fighting with the cover before the M logo disappears. Wait 3 seconds. Put the battery back in. Keep cover off for now. Now here is the last part which can discourage some people...

When powering on, hold the power on down, as SOON as you hold it down push the letter X on your keyboard right away and hold that down. Hold both down till you're in the recovery mode. Then apply necessary steps to what you're doing.

Things to look at but not get discouraged:

You'll see a blue triangle on your notification bar. That's normal during recovery. It will go away when you've completed the steps.

When all steps are completed, and powering the phone on it will take you to Activation mode, don't worry, that is normal. We all go through that even when buying new phones. It's just making sure it's a legal and bought phone. Just listen to instructions and press 1 to activate when asked to do so. It will take a couple minutes and the automated voice will say your phone has been successfully activated. Ta da! Your phone is good to go. Just complete the steps to signing back into your gmail, facebook, skype, any of those accounts and you're finished!
