Droid 2 Root for DX OTA 2.2...

seriously this is stressing me out now... i reinstalled the drivers rebooted everything and i still cant debugging to connect through windows media sync or pc mode only in charge mode and usb mass storage. When i connect through pc mode it dose not give me the debugging notification just the sync icon, and I just get and auto play on the PC (Vista). What more can I do

I've had the same problem before... just because USB Debugging didn't come up... I was still able to do ... adb devices... and the phone showed up. Have you attempted doing this anyway and seeing if it does?

yes i got it to work but now im stuck at step5

  1. Run "CD c:\DroidXRoot" (or where ever you expanded the archive)
  2. Run "adb push Superuser.apk /sdcard/Superuser.apk"
  3. Run "adb push su /sdcard/su"
  4. Run "adb push busybox /sdcard/busybox"
  5. Run "adb push exploid /sqlite_stmt_journals/exploid"
Thats as far as I can get and it says

failed to copy 'exploid' to '/sqlite_stmt__journals/exploid': no such files or directory

But I see it in the folder
I am on the official 2.2 Droid X and running windows vista
please help

i ve tried this method after getting the OTA, but i get stuck at step12, it never returns to c:/droid2root, how long do i have to wait? it just returns to $ , do i have to wait longer? am i just being impatient? any help would be awesome.

That is the old 2.1 method of rooting. Follow this thread... How to root the Droid 2 - xda-developers

This method is for the Droid 2... but works great on the Droid X 2.2 and above.

I've never seen it take longer than 30 seconds. Not sure where you are having issues. If you follow it to the "T"... you should have no problems.

I ended up having to download the 4.7.1 drivers from Motorola to reconnect to my 2.2 today.

I left mine rooted during the OTA, however, I did make copies of su and busybox into /system/xbin

I pushed rage* to the device, ran it. It took a minute to close out the adb shell. Then got back in with a # !!!!
Then copied my /system/xbin/su /system/xbin/busybox over into /system/bin, chmod'd
and viola!

I couldn't be happier! Thanks to everyone who has played a part in getting root!

Would you all be interested in an update.zip with all files deodexed and maybe some bloatware removed? I might try my hand at doing that.

I am going to hold off creating one for now. Until we have the 2.2 OTA .sbf, I don't want to screw with anything that could quite possibly get anyone (and especially myself) stuck at the M screen. Two big job interviews today and tomorrow, and I need a smart phone that is working.

My guess is by the time I start working on it Friday, there will already be one out. If there isn't, I'll give it a try!

Best of luck to everyone in modding the 2.2 OTA, be SAFE with this shiz, we don't want any more bricks.

you have a valid point, ill give rooting a try today on my lunch

you think 1 hour is enough time to simply root / download tethering app?

Yes, if you go back in this thread there is a link to an instant root from xda-developers, and the adb Droid2Root method works as well. 1 hour should be plenty.

perfecct :), lookin forward to my lunch....now how about throwin in a nextheme as well within that 1 hour period?

You gotta deodex with the xUltimate program to be able to install a theme, and that takes awhile. I'd suggest waiting to do that until after work.
