[TOOLS] Droid RAZR Utility 1.8

I would highly recommend getting it back to .211, but that is ultimately up to you.

OK, I want to root and install CyanogenMod, but I'm not sure if this program will work on my phone? The model is RAZR V XT886 from Wind Mobile in Canada.
System Version: 673.135.170.XT886.CanadaAWS.en.ca
Model Number: XT886
Android Version: 4.0.4
Firmware configuration version: GAS_NA_YANGTZEWIND_P032
Baseband version: U_04.17.00R
Baseband configuration version: USAYNGZCIC01WND1015.0R
Kernel version: 3.0.8-g5f63356, hudsoncm@il93lnxdroid86 #1, SMP PREEMPT Sun Jul 15 20:49:48 CDT 2012
AP flex version: GAS_NA_YANGTZEWIND_P032, GAS_NA_YANGTZEWIND_A008
Build number: 6.7.3-135_YIC-17
Build date: Sun Jul 15 20:35:11 CDT 2012

My phone looks a little different from the Droid RAZR photos (mine doesn't have the 4 hardware buttons at bottom, but 3 "fake" buttons on the screen itself), so I'm not sure if this will work for this model?

This won't work for GSM Razrs. The root exploit might, but don't try and fast boot with this

Im so confused on all of this is there a video anywhere?

DroidRazrKid, you are very very smart to ask questions before you proceed. The risks to permanently damaging your phone are too great if you try to root with the wrong method. With that said, don't try to do anything until you are very sure what is involved, whether it will work and the exact steps to take. Right now you have ICS on your phone which gives you lots of possibilities.

What is the reason you want to install cyanogenmod? Depending on the reason, there may be things that can be done that will accomplish the same thing while remaining stock. Let us know. We may be able to help you out.

How do i do this ? And wat do i do if i hit a bootloop

How do you do what? All you need to do right now is let us know why you want to install cyanogenmod. Because we are not familiar with your phone, we do not know what root method you should use to root your phone, so you are not able to install cyanogenmod at this time. But if we know why you want to use cyanogenmod, then there may be things you could do without being rooted that are just as good and much safer.

Rooting your phone is a very risky process and should only be done if you know exactly what you are doing and are also aware of the easy damage you can cause to your phone after you are rooted. It should only be done if you completely understand these risks and are confident that you will not permanently damage your phone. We do not have any of this information on how to root your phone so it is not something that you can do at this time.

Will this utility work with XT910? If not then is there any alternate of it? Please let me know friends. My phone is in big trouble.

There is a version out there for your GSM version, a Google search for Razr Utility GSM will bring up the results.

Well I tried it with my XT886. (Is that GSM? I don't know these things.) It rooted successfully, but I still want to install CM or some other ROM that actually has fixes for the dozens of issues Google is never going to fix[1] and I have no idea what to expect from that. The utility installed a "Razr ICS bootstap" app that has two buttons: "bootstrap ICS recovery" which just says "success", and "reboot ICS recovery" which reboots and locks the phone at the M logo. It boots up fine though.

If I power on with all three buttons held I can still get into some type of recovery menu (I guess it's stock? I don't know!) and I have no idea if I can try to install a custom ROM from there, if it'll work or refuse or blow up or what.

[1] and before you suggest that I spend $$$$ on apps that can poorly recreate CM features on a stock ROM, know that Google is completely uninterested in my money and won't accept any of my cards, so I couldn't buy them even if I wanted to.

I know software pretty well but when it comes to different types of phones I'm completely lost. Is the Droid RAZR the same as the RAZR V? Does seeing "3G" and "H" in my signal status mean I have GSM or HSPA or KFC or ??? Why do I seem to have the only model XT886 in the world? (Can't find anything about this model on the internets...) Would Motorola really be dumb enough to let me install something that won't work correctly and then have no way to fix it? (Surely that's what the recovery mode is for in the first place?)

First off thanks a ton for this great utility. Now I'm a dumbass. I proceeded to read up and thought I knew what I was doing. Ran step 1,2,3, & 4 and stopped there as it said don't install both BootStrap and SafeStrap. So now I'm stuck with BootStrap thinking I could use this to flash ROMS but every ROM I'm interested in so far in searching, calls for SafeStrap!

What to do? HALP :hail:

You should be fine. Follow this thread to uninstall bootstrap and then you can install safestrap.

Thanks, I followed that thread and realized for whatever reason I didn't even have Bootstrap installed. I did not have logwrapper and logwrapper.bin both, just logwrapper. And I didn't have Hijack file there either nor did I have the Bootstrap in the Apps.

So proceeded and successfully installed "SafeStrap" and now I'm in recovery making a backup then I'm going to give: [Rom] Arctic Hd a whirl. DancingNexus
