Droid update this morning

I believe this might be a part of 2.1, with the whole thing not being released just yet, this might just be sitting in the droid, waiting for the rest of it when it is released, so we can get it installed faster on actual patch day.

You aren't completely wrong here. It could be a needed patch for the 2.1 patch to work.

Well if anyone her is familiar with the game World of Warcraft, what the company does, before sending out actual patches to the game, since they are usually close to about a GB, they sent out small parts of the patch, with parts of it that are already confirmed to go into the final version, therefore releasing the strain on the servers on the actual patch day where everyone would have to download everything at the same time.

On a slightly unrelated note, I did not get the notification to download anything yet. Maybe our locations have something to do with this? I am located in NC. Those who have gotten the "update" could you maybe say where you are located?

Hook is right when he says the OTA updates are completely random....We had a map the last time and it didnt help

Since I did manual last time, I have no way of knowing what the timing was on the OTA... some have speculated that those with the heaviest usage get it first......

What I don't like about that logic is.. if there are any bugs, they are hurt the most.

Just for reference (I have had no recent update), my build number is ESD56 and the Kernel version is 2.6.29-etc., etc., etc.

I also notice in the Linux Kernel Archives that the latest stable Linux Kernel is 2.6.32.etc.

i've seen facebook via the market for a while, but i never installed it. (I havent gotten a new update yet like some of you have). So i attempted to install facebook from the market...installed without a hitch. Maybe the update did fix a possible facebook issue and may be the reason I didnt get the update?

Or then again, maybe it just staged the code you to you lucky dogs and now have to wait for the install code to be pushed?

I"ve just been using the facebook that came with the phone... the icon looks the same as the one in the market from facebook...Is installing that how you get the update to facebook... cause its not labeled as an update.

Just trying to figure out the difference between the facebook app that will come with 2.1 verses the market one since we all got the app with our original firmware install.

I'm sure my facebook app was not downloaded as when I look at my apps with the download filter on, I can't see it and have to view "all" to see it.

Seems to be the same Facebook that it came stock with. I think the "update" was to give non-Droid users an update to give them the features that our stock FB app came with. At least that's what I get from this:

Welcome to the home of the official “Facebook for Android” application. Available pre-installed and the Android Market. Please visit the Android OS page for information on phones using Android.

*** Note: Droid users do not need to update.

York, Pennsylvania.

I'm on the same version, build, kernel as was listed earlier in this thread. I received my "update notification" in the wee-hours last night sometime.

The whole process was done by the time I got back from the kitchen with a cup of coffee. Weird. Like it barely had time to do the download alone, hardly enough time to DL and install.

Over on androidforums.com a user said that they called Verizon and Motorola and neither knew anything about it and Verizon advised not too install it. I myself have not received the update so I don't know what to think
