Droid X Camera Problems

Well I do have some good news.

After calling several stores and the corporate number several times, a representative was able to tell me what stores in my area would be able to help replace my phone. I went to a store about 17 miles away from me and despite waiting on the tech Que for about an hour, the gentleman at the tech counter looked at my phone and issued me an overnight shipment for a new one.

I'll most likely get it on Friday, but I do get to keep my original phone for the time being as I do need it for work. I'm just happy to finally be getting a replacement phone. It's a shame that the original phone couldn't have just worked. I'm sentimental when it comes to these kinds of things.

I posted a message before about shutting off the live wall paper and the camera started working again for my droid x well only for a little while. Then I was back to a black screen. I then powered off the phone charged the battery to full charge then turned the phone I have no idea why this worked but it did the camera has been working now for about 5 days straight with no issues. Hopefully it works for you as well.

I also have camera problem, black screen. Worked 10 days ago, I hadn't tried it since. Reset the wall paper, fully charged battery, didn't correct. Called Verizon tech support 830am Sat morning (EDT), got right thru. Popped the battery, reset to factory defaults, didn't fix problem. So they're shipping me a new phone, "by August 18th."

I was told that if you have problems within first 30 days of purchase, they ship a new phone. After 30 days, replacement could be a refurb.

Also, they charge your credit card ($215, incl. sales tax). The new phone will be shipped with return envelope, when they receive the old phone they credit the charge. Doesn't affect any rebates, which I just mailed in a couple days ago.

Hey dont 73, I have same problem, but they told me I had to go through Motorola to get a new phone. Which mean i have to mail in my droid x and not have it for 5-7 business days, and wait for them to mail it back fixed. I could not believe what I heard. I am going to try what you did hopefully get same result.

OK, so today (8/1) the camera works again. ??? The battery discharged below its lower threshold last night, and the unit shut down. I didn't put it on the charger for about 4 hours, and charged it this morning. Now the camera works. Other than that, I don't know what else changed. Sigh. Maybe the key is to discharge the battery. An undocumented feature maybe. ???

I did the update a few days ago but just now realized I am having the same problem as everyone else so I am assuming it started after the update and I just haven't used the camera since. Has anyone found a solution yet?

I have had this issue with my phone and i finally got a fix. After not successful tries of doing hard resets, soft resets, reformatting my memory card i finally got it. this is what i did:

1st. I went to files and deleted the DCMI folder by long pressing it and seleting delete. (Beware that you will lose your pics or whatever is on it so i suggest backing it up on you computer.) Do NOT create a new DCMI folder.

2nd. I reformatted my memory card

3rd. I made sure all my tagging was off (i dont know if this helped or not)

and i turned on the camera and IT WORKED!! Hopefully it will work for you too! I have taken many of pictures and videos to make sure it works and everything has been fine so far.

I havent tried to put the old pics or vids on my phone bc its not worth the risk

I have thought all along that the camera issue is software based. Today I tried my camera again, and this time it worked. Both in camera and camcorder modes. Not sure for how long.....

do you think it is a coincidence that all our (last 3 posters) cameras started working magically all around the same time?

Mine is still having issues. Black screen after about four gallery views. Have to turn it off/on to get it to work again then same thing happens over and over. SO sick of it already!:icon_evil:

Its been 5 days now and I ONLY get a black screen.

This is SO frustrating - cannot use Camera nor Camcorder.

HELP:icon_evil:

Thanks! My camera wasn't working for about a week and I just deleted the DCMI folder and my camera is working perfectly now. It's been 10 minutes... let's hope this lasts...

Got my Droid X two days ago, camera and video camera no longer work. Same black screen as everyone else. Once the battery charges (it requires recharging every 24 hours with minimal use...are you kidding me), I'll try the SD card thing.

EDIT: my battery was completely dead, recharged it and now the camera and video camera seem to be working...at least no black screen.

Deleting the DCIM folder worked perfectly for me. Now both the camera and the camcorder work perfect. BIG THANKS again!
