Droid X screen issues already!!!!!

Droid X problems

I too am having major issues with my new Droid X. Not only is my touch screen unresponsive about 50% of the time, but, it appears to have a mind of it's own. At any given moment apps and screens start opening on their own when i'm not even holding the phone. I've missed multiple calls because the screen freezes and i can't answer incoming calls. I have advanced app killer installed, and even when i can actually access it, it makes no difference. I've been on the phone with Verizon multiple times, did a hard reset to mfg defaults, as soon as i powered it back up, the issues resumed. So much so i couldn't even log into gmail to set up the various accounts so i could get back into my settings. Verizon suggested i wait for the 2.2 update, which is being pushed out today. Of course i have not received it yet and and it's almost 7pm eastern time. Hoping i don't have a lemon because Verizon tells me the back order is up to 3 weeks at this point. In addition, my signal, which has always been great, craps out frenquently. I actually had to revert to using my lan line to make calls. Here's hoping 2.2 will solve my problems because at this point, it's just becoming a big pain in the a** and i'm getting irritated!

wait they said 2.2 is going out today? are you sure?

There is a OTA update being released. But it isn't 2.2 that is for sure. It is also going to be a staggered rollout, so it may be while before you see it.

I have had some issues with wallpapers and the phone just locked up on me earlier after using the task killer. I had to do a battery pull to get going again.

Stop using task killers! They only make things worse. I know it goes against what may be considered common sense... however, your phone will run smoother and your battery will last longer if you just uninstall that task killer and use Android's internal task and memory killer built into the kernel as Google intended. Trust me. The internal memory killer will free up additional memory as it's needed. (And with Froyo... it works even better.) When you kill that app, Android just starts it right up again when it's service is called onto action - depleting your battery even faster and slowing down your processor as well. Ever notice that no matter how many times you kill your apps, they just seem to pop up again? Do you really think that's helping? Android WANTS to Multi-Task... it's what it does - and it does it well. This isn't the iPhone...

I had been using a task killer with my Droid since I first purchased it. About a two months ago... I decided to uninstall it and I haven't looked back. I hardly get any force-closes anymore - with the exception of once and a while from a poorly coded app. With the Droid 1 and Android 2.1... it is more of an argument on whether to use it. With the Droid 1 and Android 2.2... a task killer causes a lot more issues than than anything else. However, not with the Droid X. The processor and RAM combination in the Droid X is more than capable of running like a champ without a task killer.

If anything... give it a shot - more than likely... you won't regret it. If after a few days you disagree, download the app again. But, do UNinstall the Task Killer or it will keep running and you won't get the full benefit.

And don't forget... you can place a shortcut to the "Running Services" and "Manage Applications" section of Settings on your homescreen for the few apps that weren't coded well enough and you need to terminate.

I hope this helps. And I really hope I free a few of you from the confines and added aggravation of using a third-part Task Killer.

I had posted here a few days ago about how google images would not respond when i tapped them and pics were poor quality....also that the call and speaker volumes were very low. For those who don't know, they put out a software update. I just did it and my droid x is buggless. All of the above have been fixed.

finished the update...after a battery pull, so far so good. hope it lasts. really starting to like this phone. even had someone with an iphone 3gs say that he really likes it.

No problem guys...it worked for me so i figured id share the info. And yea i've gotten a ton of compliments on this phone, even from iphone users.

With all these problems Moto is having with the Droid X its' no wonder they signed and locked the bootloader. If they didn't ROM cooks and the folks at XDA would have already released Froyo with zero issues and made Motorola look like the incompetent morons that we all know they are.

This is pointless, but figured I would tell yall.

Well, hopfully this will be good news for me, Finally after 3 stores, 7 reps and one call to Corporate I got me a new DX ordered!!!!!! I have had them tell me that I have to send mine off and activate my old droid then wait a week to get my new droid back. So I called up to the verizon store today where I had first pick up my droid and the lady I talked to was very nice. She ordered me a new phone and when she called me back to give me the order number I was unable to answer her call cause of the screen issue. She left me a vm and said it sould be in in a few days. This was the same store but a different rep. The day before a rep said that I had to send it off......I'm just glad that I got the rep I did and will be getting a new DX.

Isn't it a network update?? Like...You receive it over the gps and not a computer install??? I haven't received an update or anything...Is there a place I can get it?

EDIT: NVM I got it. haha:icon_ banana:

Go to settings, about phone, system updates.

I think I might have found an odd fix to the touch screen issue...if the screen starts to become unresponsive or slugglish, turn off the screen then turn it on immediately. Most of the time, the screen becomes snappy again. It seems to work better when no screen lock is on. Haven't tried it with the password lock. Let me know if that works for you guys.

This is what I do to solve the unresponsive screen....

I feel like I shouldn't have to.
