Droid X2 Will Not Receive Ice Cream Sandwich

The x2 is my first motorola smartphone...and my last, though it has nothing to do with ics. It has everything to do with:

1-constant lag, for a "dual core processor", thing lags more than my original epic.

2-the screen....lol the screen, wth was motorola thinking with this screen? My original epic s screen blew this away.

3-all this motorola bloatware was/is horrible, really....wth was motorola doing? My old %%% iphone makes this ui look amazing, and dont even like ios.

-wtb: my samsung epic or iphone 4 back.

If your DX2 is rooted, I'd suggest clearing the cache (regular+Dalvik) every few weeks. I started doing it on my D3 a few weeks ago and I'm stunned that it's like having a new phone all over again. I'm not sure why it helps so much -- I can only imagine that I have a few frequently-used apps with cached data or precompiled code that go "stale."

I simply don't understand this mentality that my Droid -7 should get Jelly Bean at launch. I understood the Droid X which took forever to get gingerbread which was promised. I understand if you eventually have a problem with Ice Cream Sandwich landing on the Droid Razr. The Droid X2 is a different story, not only is every phone on verizons list have more than 512mbs of ram, there were no promises of an update to ice cream sandwich nor does the phone have standard features like a front facing camera or 4G LTE to warrant Verizons attention. I think the real selling point of that phone was barbarically dual core. Although the Droid Charge which is also not getting Ice cream sandwich should be bigger news since it was Verizons pride and joy in place of the late Bionic even though it to is lacking basic ice cream sandwich features (dual core, 1gig ram). Another thing people should be more mad about is the Droid slide out series something that should of had Motorola and Verizons full attention.

what matters is not what verizon thinks is needed, its what US, THE PEOPLE WHO PAY THEM want/need. Maybe people wouldnt be so upset if they werent stuck with a dead-end phone for another 18 months... if your RAZR never saw an update after 4.0.2 you would be just as mad. Moto screwed over their customers by releasing half-assed phones and now, coupled with verizon, are making sure customers will forever be weary of Motorola. The X2 was the last motorola phone i will ever own by choice (and i was a huge moto fanboy)

edit- if the D1, D2 and DX can run ICS then so can the DX2, and run it better it can. the Tegra 2 is a very good chipset and is used in many devices, no reason it cant run ICS flawlessly

i think i have to agree with people that the X2 will be my last moto phone.

My X2 lags like mad. sometimes it takes 30 seconds for the screen to turn on after i click the button. then a good 10 seconds for my code to register. by then i usually just put it down and walk away.

?

First off the Droid 1, 2 and X only run 4.0 in the mod world. I bought my Droid milestone not caring when it would get some update. The Droid X I bought was purchased with the promise of 2.2 which we all got. I was presently surprised when my Droid X received Gingerbread, which was nice, but unnecessary. If I didn't get Ice cream sandwich on my Droid Razr yes I would be upset because once again I purchased it knowing it would "eventually" be upgraded. I don't expect Motorola and Verizon to put 5.0 on it. Also the Droid X2 is not a smooth handset on gingerbread, it would be even worse on 4.0. Dual cores don't make up for low ram.

Besides that I've owned Droid, Droid X and now my Droid Razr Maxx and given every single experience I've had with Motorola (besides 2.1 Droid X) from customer service to the quality of their builds my next handset will most likely be with them.

ive got MavRom flashed already (have for a couple weeks now) and havent cleared those once since then. Do i need to do a back up first before clearing?

sorry for the off topic remark

Im thinking that the D3 wont see ICS either. other than the front facing camera and the keyboard there is no difference between it and the DX2

first bold: you just admitted that they DO run 4.0. my point proven that it is very possible.

second bold: Your Droid X ran GB nicely? thats how i remembered mine too (this relates to the third bold)

third bold: The DX2 has the same RAM as the DX and D2 which both run GB just fine, so what is your point there? My point is that Moto released a piece of crap phone, then said "LOLOLOL sucks2bu"

red part: all of those phones besides the Droid are crap compared to the competition. They all use low-res screens and run MotoBlur which is just a timebomb waiting to reboot your phone. I also think it is foolish to think "Oh moto never promised my 4.0 update, even though my phone is plenty competent to run it and it came out only 6 months ago, but im OK with an outdated, buggy phone for the next 18 months"

I agree with your post commenting on the previous post. There is no "perfect" device. Not even the beloved Nexus. It's all in a name

the phone doesnt have to be "perfect" that comes down to personal preference. but what is NOT an opinion is that a brand new phone (6 months old) SHOULD still be on the latest software..if NOT then it should at least be on software that is completely stable and usable, which the DX2 does not have.
example:
your old PC is on Windows XP, sure its outdated but it still works. (just about every phone but the DX2)
Your other old PC is on XP as well, but loaded down with all kinds of crapware that a family member has put on it (moto) and it runs like poo. (Droid X2)

sure they're on the same software (2.3), but that same software is also so different that it barely runs on one machine (DX2) and unlike a computer, there is no way to fix it.

Kinda like this:

Why buy a PC now with windows 7. Windows 8 will be out in September or October. See what i mean. Your PC's don't get auto upgrades to a new OS.

I was referring to the label you put on the phones as being crap because of what they are and specs. I am sure MOTO has a valid reason that certain phones will not get ICS. The Nexus may be a developers dream but it is not the preferred phone of the masses for a reason.

its not like that at all because OS updates in PC land have never been free or automatic. Having one computer not get SP1 because the company doesnt feel like it and the other is on SP2 (as it should be) is a much more accurate example.

i think you missed my point, the example of two PC's both on XP is like, say, the HTC Inc 2 and the Droid X2. both have similar specs, yet one is left behind simply because Moto doesnt care enough about their customers. Its why the DX2, the Bionic, Razr and Razr Maxx were all released so close to each other, each having a feature that should have just been lumped into 1 or 2 phones...that reason is that moto doesnt care about us, which is the point i am getting at

I hate this phone more than anything. At least 2-3 times a day I have to take out the battery to reset it because it locks up, music skips in all apps. Camera app is complete garbage. I regret buying this crap and may go back to my outdated yet functional original droid. Very disappointed that Droid X2 owners won't see this update.

The only thing Droid X2 owners deserve is for Verizon and Motorola to fix the current errors like Big Russ, for example, have been experiencing on gingerbread. The problem most people aren't getting is that these aren't stock rom phones like a Nexus or original droid. They have to have the Motorola ui over top thus killing any chance of it running smoothly.
