@tillyswilly thanks for the reply i was just curious because last time i didnt make a titanium backup and i had to reinstall all my apps

anyone have tips on using titanium backup?

Sure...

Titanium Backup requires you to be rooted in order to use it. For full features and functionality, buy the app and get the key for it.

When you are ready to back up, you have a couple options:

Click on the Backup/Restore tab (at the top, in the middle of the 2 other tabs). Press your soft key Menu button and click on Batch.

You will then see a big list of options. The most vital ones are the backup of all user apps and/or all system data. I choose to use "Backup all user apps + system data." Click on the button RUN.

This helps save everything when you are flashing ROMs, or anything else for that matter. When you are done flashing and getting settled down to putting apps back on or whatever it is in your interest, you can go back to Titanium and go back to the Backup/Restore, push soft Menu key, click on Batch, scroll down to the options of Restore missing apps and/or all system data to restore anything that isn't back in place.

Other tips:

Some people like to install themed apps (APKs) for Google Search, or the Market, or Pandora, etc. Some of us use the option to Freeze these apps from updating. I only use the Freeze option for update.zip to prevent it from updating the Market and other stuff otherwise I will lose that themed APK or something might go wrong and it won't work.

It's best to explore each setting, learn and understand their functionality and what they do and how you benefit from it.

When you do the backup, it kills any running app and data and freezes them in place and is saved. A simple restore to the missing apps and system data will take care of that.

If you should see an app that no longer has its' theme, then check in the new Liberty Toolbox and you will see a big list of themed apps that have been updated to the most current version of those apps.

No need to freeze any apps to update just donate for the toolbox do a wipe and backup and the oreo slice theme is already in the toolbox where all you gotta do is choice it and let it install itself so you don't even have to boot into recovery yourself

very quick question. i simply forgot...i got a new phone that has the 2.3.20 update. do i need to sbf back to 2.2.20 to run this rom?
i had this rom and many others stored as backups on my sd card. can i install one backup through clockwork over the 2.3.20 and have it revert back to how it was on my old phone?

Liberty ROM is designed to be run on 2.3.20 so no, you don't need to sbf back. As for your backups, I'd recommend that you don't run those and that you just start from scratch by flashing Liberty over 2.3.20 then restoring your apps with my backup root or titanium backup.

thats what i thought. i just wasnt sure if flashing backups going would mess up the baseband and kernel cause they're going backwards in updates

If it's with the theme then yeah, no need to freeze any apps. Downloading and installing the theme, through the new Toolbox, will have everything back to the way it looked.

If it's a themed APK, not associated with a current full theme, then yeah a freeze on that app is needed to keep the theme intact without an update altering it.

Titanium kills and freezes all your apps and system data regardless if you want to freeze it or not. That's how backup works. It's an image of everything in it's previous state.

Yea I thought that's what he was asking if he needed to freeze any to do an update which you don't need to do but yes if you want them to stay the way they are then freeze them

thank u @swagger imma follow the steps an hopefully it all works out and all my apps and data save...also is a backup needed before i flash the new rom? it seems so much easier to donate but all my funds are tied up and i dont want to overdraft and get a damn fee

Any time you flash or make changes it is wise to back everything up. A simple small error could cause everything to go wrong.

You can do a backup in recovery at anytime you don't have to donate to do that all the donate does is it let's you do all this in about 2 steps without going into recovery yourself....have you ever booted into recovery?

Titanium and NANDROID are 2 different things.

NANDROID takes an entire picture of every single part of your device and backs it up into a NANDROID folder on your SD Card.

Titanium concentrates on system data and apps and doesn't allow you to specifically choose what to reload. This is good for any system info the phone saved for you along with all your apps plus their most current data that was saved from the last time you used that app.

While Nandroid pretty much reloads everything (original bootloader, cache, and other stuff).Titanium cannot do this.

Also, each time you do a NANDROID backup, it will overwrite the existing one.

You can use Titanium to go ahead and save the apps plus their data and any system data that was saved for you. Then do a NANDROID backup.
