Easy Root, one-click root for DROID 1 and DROID X, works as intended

Power the phone down, slide out the keyboard, hold the top of the d-pad (towards the screen) down, power the phone back up while holding down the d-pad, note what it says on the scree, reboot into OS so you can use your phone again.

Since Easyroot is all but dead (I wasn't my dollar back ;) ), what's the next best option? I've got the newest 2.2 update waiting to install, but I only just got tethering to work yesterday. I'm not ready to give it up yet.

Just let the patch install and then do this. It may seemed difficult when you first read it, but it is really quite easy. Much better than using a one-step program to root. You will not only be rooted, but have have SPRecovery which will allow you to block future updates, do backups, switch kernels, install different ROMs, etc.

Unfortunately those instructions are for PCs only. I have a Mac.

Well lost root with the patch, will try the proven method later. Funny thing is the first time I thought it failed, so when it came through again I didn't think it would it would work then either. Was running the Froyo 2.2 I downloaded with RomManager. Oh well.

I'm going to unroot using Easy Root. Do I need to uninstall the apps that were installed after rooting, like Barnacle and drocap2, or can they just stay on the Droid until I get around to rooting again after installing the update?

Install a virtual box and then run a Linux live CD like Puppy and use the terminal to do the ADB code Motocache provided in his rooting sticky.

If you don't want to, just leave what you have on your phone, update, and then reroot. Last I knew EasyRoot wasn't working with FRG22D, but I'm days behind and it might have updated.

I didn't understand a word of that 1st paragraph. :)

Easy Root is done. The latest post says that there's no longer any way to do a one button root. I installed all the files needed onto an XP virtual machine. When I have time I'll reroot using the long method. For. Ow I'll unroot and let the update do its thing.

glad that not only did i go to FRG22D through Liquid and not OTA but that I have backup of stock right after i rooted before FRG22D. although if i ever end up needing a replacement phone ill have to borrow a windows comp to root again, unless someone finds a way around the patch

Had EasyRoot, OTA ruined it. I only have a Macbook so I thought I was screwed, but I borrowed a friends, took <5minutes after I read through the directions in the Root Any OS Droid1 thread posted above me. Works better and I know this is a much stable root that will stick!dancedroid

EasyRoot = A quick root that will come back and bite you in the a$$:icon_evil:
