That's weird... I've never experienced that before. Do you mean while the screen is off, you hit the power button and it turns the screen on? Or vice versa?

Do you have any apps that would allow you to use the volume button to wake the phone? If not, you could just try reflashing the ROM. Wipe cache, then dalvik, then reflash.

I have 5.7.906.XT862.Verizon.en.US on my droid3

The phone is completedly unmodded.

Can someone walking me through the steps needed to get Eclipse 3 v1.1 running on this?

I am not "rooted" and not sure where to begin.

The 5.7.906 update can only be rooted with motofail. Let me look for a link.

I had to use the motofail one-click root tool to get root. The other one had file permission issues and did not work (7/2/2012)

Contacts are backed up with gmail after syncing with Google's servers. Pictures are on your SD card, so they shouldn't be touched. Next step should be to download and install Safestrap and make a backup of your current system.
