I just upgraded (though I use the term loosely) from a Droid 2 to a D2 Global, and like many users have been experiencing TERRIBLE call quality. I could hear people fine, even with just 1 or 2 bars of service, but they were having a very difficult time hearing me.
A search through many of these forums lead me to the so-called "Secret Menu" which unfortunately is different for us D2G users. I did some searching, and I think I found where you can change the setting from EVRC to EVRC-B, which has been suggested as a good fix for poor call quality.
Pull up the dialer on your phone
Dial ##PROGRAM (##7764726)
Hit Send (the call button)
The password is 000000 (six zeros)
Select "Option 6 - Test Mode"
Hit "Next" until you come to the "Field test screen"
Under "Service Option" (top most), select EVRC-B
Hit "Back"
The phone should then reboot and you'll be all set.
I have not yet noticed a big difference, but my apartment is a veritable deadzone anyway, so I need to try from a more reliable location.
I also have read in some other posts that not all markets support EVRC-B so if you find you can't make calls, or they're worse, follow the steps to undo it.
Most of what I've posted is a repost of others, I just was excited to have perhaps stumbled upon the hidden menu of the hidden menu.
