It will work in gingerbread (not cm7 or SSX or using an aftermarket dialer). The setting just does not survive a reboot so you have to set it each time you boot the phone.

For gingerbread...

same as before, but they moved it to menu 6, hit next twice, choose service option
But still can see how to save it, as others mentioned
