Ex boyfriend reading texts remotely. How do I make it stop?

Hmmm, my mighty text has a notification icon. That must be something in settings. I do have to enable it everytime I restart the phone.

My guess, if her phone is cloned, he would've had to have done it when she was still with him for him to have access to her phone. But someone that psycho to clone an exes phone would be psycho enough to do it before ex status, just imho. Very scary if you ask me.

With MightyText, you just have to enable it once on the phone and it stays active unless you deactivate it. There's also no notification icon for it. So, an app like that could run without the OP knowing about it. That said, there should be an icon for it in the app drawer, or at the very least, it will be in the list of downloaded apps in the settings.

It's possible that it's been cloned, but that really takes quite a bit of work and know how. And it's far more difficult to clone a smartphone than a non-smartphone. Plus, it would need to be cloned onto another device. So, while it might be possible, I'd say it's very, very unlikely that it's what has happened in this case.

Spyware apps are disguised as different apps. My search pulled up lots of stuff. It may hide as something like a friends app. There are apps for finding this stuff for free on the playstore.
:sly::cool:

Anti spy mobile free.. seems like a decent one.

Strange. Maybe it's something selected when first setting up the app, because I have no notification icon, and it automatically starts up every time I restart the phone without any sort of notification. None of that is in the settings either. The only choices in the settings are for what to show on the web browser end of things (SMS text syncing, Calling Now, and Missed Call). It was the same way on my RAZR MAXX as well.

I will have to test this out... uninstall and reinstall, see what options it gives me. It would be me to select to be notified and asked for permission for activation everytime.

he PROBABLY installed the app Spy Sms on your phone once installed the person spying enters their own email and password and any message you get is sent to his email every 24 hrs. The app does not show up in the app drawer, it is actually disguised as a widget and is called "Android Service". So look for that widget and delete it and you should be fine!

He might have installed SMS Backup & Restore on your phone and depending on what launcher you use removed it from the app drawer? This app backs up your texts on a schedule and can email the file. It also allows for disabling of verification so you wouldn't notice it doing it's thing. You should also scan all the downloaded apps in the Application Manager. If it's really Spyware it won't be visible... but it wouldn't hurt to make sure you know what every app in the list does.

Thanks so much for the ideas. I get all my texts, he just reads them. I will look into all suggestions, and do the reset as a last resort.

I'm kinda curious, how did you find out he is able to read your texts?

If you don't want to answer that's fine...

I would try a factory data reset. Are there any apps that you have that might be letting him do that?

And once you get it fixed, make sure to only let people you trust to handle your phone.

And that's a sorry thing to do, IMO

^^ this^^ It's your best (and most reliable) option. Do a backup of your contacts and then do a factory reset.
Reinstall ONLY the apps you know and all is good. Then contact the police and find out what your options are in regards to pressing charges.

I agree with everything except sending texts simply to cause him to be angry with you. If he's capable of what you say, then he could also be capable of violence and the last thing you want to do is incite violence, since you'll likely be the direct victim of that violence.

I would reverse the order. Go to the police. Let them take a look at the phone to see if there is any incriminating evidence on it and document it. Then do the fdr on the phone.

You could always get a restraining order. Then right off the bat he would be violating it by accessing your personal information. And I'm pretty sure its already against the law what he is doing. I would go to the cops if he has any temper. If not just do a factory reset and then download app for any spyware

Seems the is a lot of uncertainty here. Contact Verizon to make sure there is no possibility on that end, nothing that could follow the number. Get a new phone. Contact the police. Sounds illegal to me and a restraining order is in order. Beyond that, what your family and friends might choose to do is being the scope of this forum. Remember, violence begets violence.
