In preparation for my new releases, I figured i'd post this while everything is uploading.

You will NOT be answered by myself or Sephtin if you ask a question that is answered in here. You ARE welcome to answer any questions not answered in here, that will be answered and added to the OP. Bug reports go in the OFFICIAL release thread please.

FAQ

  • Q: My Gmail doesn’t sink! Your rom brokeded my phone!
  • A: Download it from the market, set it to sync in accounts, gmail settings. You should get a notification asking permission. Allow it, then re-check the sync email option.
  • Q: I can’t voice search! Dubya tee eff?
  • A: Download Voice Search from the market. It was removed since Google likes to update things constantly and I can’t keep up with them. I’m not a themer, I have no need to 
  • Q: My HDMI doesn’t work!?
  • A: I know. I’m working on a fix, and am getting close.
  • Q: Why is my phone so awesome now?
  • A: <Insert cheesy answer here>
  • Q: Why does my phone randomly reboot some times?
  • A: Moto's screwy behavior with the bootloader and the security checks constantly checking for blur. This causes all of the phones memory to be eaten up (mostly at times when the screen is locked) and reboot to free it again. This is also an issue with their framework, and not just the blur security checks. It's being worked on, I promise. Every release, you all test a possible fix :)

(This question drives me crazy but I have a full answer now)
  • Q: Why is my cell standby ~50%?! That's why my phone dies in 0.02 seconds!!!!1!1
  • A: No.. Your phone dies because A: you are overclocked and your phone doesn't like it, B: Your phone doesn't like my tweaks or C: Your phone doesn't like me, period. Cell standby is a graphical bug caused by improper permissions. Currently, I can fix it, but if I do, you cannot wipe system before installing without a hard brick. My rom AUTOMATICALLY wipes system, and I will not get rid of that feature because it saves A LOT of issues on my end, and on yours.
  • Q: Will the next version of Focused/Blurry have 2.3/Gingerbread features?
  • A: Does a bear crap in the woods? ;) Yes.
  • Q: Does 3G HotSpot app work?
  • A: As of 1.9.5 (coming soon), yes, it does.
  • Q: Y I NO HAZ WALLPAPERZ?? Y U MAKE BLANK TILEZ?!
  • A: There are no wallpapers, because it saves almost 4 mb of used space in system. There are plenty of wallpaper apps in the market, and i'm sure there are some pictures on your sdcard you'd like to use as well :)

More FAQ'n info:

1.9.5 FAQ:
When you DO NOT need to wipe data/cache:
--Coming from Focused 1.9.5 (including alpha or beta versions).
--Coming from GummyJar 2.x (they share framework components).

When you DO need to wipe data/cache:
--Coming from older versions of Focused than 1.9.5
--Coming from any other ROM (other than GummyJar 2.x)

IF you do not wipe data/cache, and it puts you into a boot loop:
--Pull the battery.
--Hold the HOME button down on the phone while you put the battery back in. Keep holding HOME until you see the M logo.
--When it boots in to the Android Recovery (lil droid with a ! in a triangle), hit the SEARCH button on the phone. This will take you to the menu.
--From the menu, Wipe cache, Wipe Data, and then reboot.. it should take you right into Focused. :)

--Do I REALLY need to wipe Data/Cache?
You should always follow the instructions of any ROM dev when installing their ROM... I always recommend wiping data/cache when installing a ROM.

That having been said... I've done maybe 12'ish hours of testing with a VERY vanilla 1.6 to 1.8.x upgrades without wiping data/cache, and so far so good.
If upgrading from Focused 1.6, you can try not wiping, but at the first sign of ANY issues, it's the first thing I'd try...

As always, a good nandroid backup is your friend...

--How can I save my Angry Birds progress?
Info from: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...duplicated-focused-1-8-6-a-7.html#post1002093
FYI. Angry birds scores are stored in:
/data/data/com.rovio.angrybirds/files/highscores.lua
Backup that single file and restore and you can save your progress.

--Bad battery life? FIRST THING TO TRY!
When moving between ROMs, or restoring from backups... some cached battery info can cause the battery stats to be out of sync with the state of the battery... leading to some people going from 100%, down to 20 percent in 6 hours, to then get 16+ hours at 20% before the battery dies...
As suggested by others, the first thing to try is to charge your battery to 100% (overnight preferred), and then in Clockworkmod Recovery, go to Advanced, and reset battery stats. This should let things sync correctly, and hopefully "fix" most bad battery issues.

--Where is the 3G Hotspot App!?
Drod is aware of the issue and is looking into it.

--FUN FACTS:
JRobzilla: "Drod" is auto corrected to "deodorant" on my X.

Yet more FAQ'n info:

--Why won't my phone play mp3's/take pictures/record video/play video after installing?
You probably installed the wrong version of 1.9.0. If you are on 2.3.15, you need to install the non-leak version. If you are on 2.3.320 or 2.3.340, you need to install the leak version. Installing the incorrect version can wreak havoc with media features.

--When will the next version of RubiX be out?
When it's done. (TM Sephtin)

--Where are my social networking widgets? How can I get them back?
Those are aspects of blur, and as such are not included in the Focused version of RubiX. If you want them that badly, just install the Blurry version of RubiX or another blur-based ROM.

--Is this ROM overclocked/undervolted straight out of the box?
No. The ROM will be installed running at stock voltages at stock frequencies. However, JRummy's overclock script has been included via cpu.sh through terminal emulator, so you can apply your overclock or undervolt of choice. If you'd prefer to set it to your own settings, there is also a lowvolt.sh found in /system/xbin where you can do that. The Quickclock app, available for free on the market, courtesy of JPApps will help you determine which settings to safely use.

--Why do my Facebook pictures take a while to sync with my contacts list?
Not 100% sure on the why, but the way to speed this process up is to open Facebook and scroll through all your friends, letting each picture show up. Once you have done this once, they will be synced with your contacts list.

A good question i am sure you will be asked...(I am going to ask also lol) Is this ROM OCed already or is it an option with running the script. I see where it says UV is optional.....

THANK YOU

ROM comes at stock clock and voltage. Both are optional.

  • Q: I was on stock or a blurred rom, now I'm on focused, and I've lost the ability to ______. How can I get it back?!
  • A: Switching to a blurless rom will innately be a sacrifice. You may lose the ability to do _____. It may not be a bug in the rom, but simply a compatibility problem resulting from the loss of blur. If you need the feature back, you might want to consider changing to the latest version of rubix Blurry. Here is a simple test to see which version you should be using:

Titanium Backup also works for Angry Birds scores/progress. I'd freak if I lost those.

The point of putting the angry birds backup info, was so if the only thing you really needed to back up was angry birds, you wouldn't need titanium...

I don't use titanium.. so good to know of other methods...
