First time I've thought this!

For anyone with an OG Droid that is experiencing slow down and would like a complete overhaul to spice your baby up a bit, I have a beastly setup:

1) OC'd at 1100/250.
2) Supercharger script!
3) Running latest MIUI Rom - total OS redesign and easily skinnable.

MIUI is silky smooth on it's own, but throw a little supercharger script on top and OC the beast and...damn lol. Feels like a completely different phone. Faster. Prettier. Faster. Yeah, it's awesome :)

Sent using common sense.

I absolutely love MIUI, but as far as speed goes it just does not compare to Chevys SS roms. When I was on MIUI I had the SC script 1.2 ghz kernel and it would just bog down. My next rooted phone will probably be running MIUI, but not the old Droid. Also, the supercharger script actually slowed down SS 5.5 when I installed it.

the supercharger script was too involved for me to figure out. I don't mind a little lag, but I can't tolerate the freezes which seems to happen with most roms (outside BB and Chevy's latest). I've played with locking other programs in memory, and that seems to give the Android ram mgmt system fits. I just lock home in memory and things work pretty good. Yeah, some stuff gets temporarily killed that I'd prefer wouldn't, but it recovers soon enough. Does concern me, though, that I might lose some text messages because of that (fortunately I do very little texting, and try to use GV where it wouldn't happen).

If you're on SS 5.5 you can lock home, messaging, and gmail in memory and it still runs fine. Also if you chanfe the compcache to 26 and the vm heap to 40 it makes a big difference. I'm with you though, what I hate is the freezes.

Weird, I was just posting in a different thread how compcache can cause freeze ups and slow downs. I guess everyone's phone is different.

Lol! When I have mine set to the default I get more freezes then when its set to 26%. I've never actually disabled it though!

I've tried 26% many different times but it gets very laggy and eventually the rom freezes up causing me to reboot. If I need more ram, I just use swapper 2 but even that starting to cause lag for me. I need a faster SD card but just can't afford one right now.

I've never tried swapper 2. Maybe I'll try and disable it just to see how it acts.

Yeah, I created a swap partition several months ago and it worked great. Now, it's horrible. I wonder if the swap partition isn't getting formatted every time I enable and disable swapper 2 or it's possible my SD card is wearing out :icon_eek:

Yeah with all these issues I'm having on my droid recently, I really can't wait for my upgrade.

I got my Droid last year for $20 on Walmart.com. Wow, what a steal, great phone. I won't be able to do an upgrade through them until January or February. I could do an early upgrade now through Verizon but several hundred dollars more is just too much for me right now. I think I can wait, at least hopefully:p

I know man, these phones are getting pricey! But this has become an addiction of mine!

I'm still rocking the original droid as well, and yeah, it's having some issues. I've got mine rooted but I'm not running any custom roms, just the supercharger script, which really does help in my case. I'm using launcher pro which slows things down a wee bit but not much, and I've cut back on widgets, but I do have at least 3 things running in the notification bar at all times. Honestly it's very useable, the biggest problem I've seen is that I use K-9 mail (all my mail comes through my verizon account, not google) and if I don't go in and manually clear out the trash bin it really slows things down bad. I have to do it about twice a week. I wish there was a way to set this program to autodelete mail. The only reason I even swapped to it in the first place is the default mail client doesn't even *LET* you delete mail. It puts it in the trash and never removes it, and there's no way to remove it. WTF is up with that? Is there a single mail program for android that autodeletes stuff you've, you know, DELETED?

Well anyway, I've been eligible for upgrade since early August but my contract's not up until December. I'm thinking I'll be getting a Prime if it lives up to the hype.

^ I'm with you on the K-9 thing, I haven't logged into gmail on my computer for almost a couple of months now. I probably got hundreds if not thousands of emails to delete.

I have been reading up on the Spyder/Razr. This thing seems like it will be what the Bionic should have been. I went to the store and messed with the Bionic for a while and came to terms with the fact that my X is still great and it wasn't worth $300. It may be a good phone but I will wait. The X has been so good to me I can't complain...especially running CM7 without any issues ever.

One thing I've come to realize is that all these new phones are gonna have such hype behind them because of the size of the android community now, that its extremely tough for them to live up to the hype. The majority of people seem to only post the one thing that might be wrong with their device, whereas the majority of people that don't have problems never say a word and just enjoy their new phone. The Bionic for example was perfectly set up to fail. Not saying it is a failure, but the hype was so big and long that when it was finally released, there's no way it could live up to that! I'm getting the prime (or whatever its called) regardless of hype or not, because it will be an amzing phone. And yes something better will come out a month later but that's life I guess.
